It's utterly tragic that you think that's what I think. What I DO think is that you need to be yourself next time you're recording a voiceover. I've heard you talk in other videos that you've made, and you have a nice speaking voice. There's no need to overact, no need to try and sound enthusiastic. I don't care what you were taught at college. Experts don't know everything. Yeah but you don't know anything about it either. Sorry but I am more likely to listen to what professionals who do this for a living have told me than some random person on the Internet. [...] No, experts don't know everything, on the other hand I think I am more likely to trust what they say over someone who doesn't have any education or background in the industry. I understand that you think I'd have sounded better reading it with my natural voice and that's your opinion. But what bothered me is how both you and StuntBrick chose to say it. I don't think that you realized how what you both said would come off to me when I read it. Stunt's initial comment wasn't the issue, but then saying "You were clearly trying to sound like xyz but it verged on sounding like a parody," "It's William Shatner-esque," "It's a shame you did it that way," a parody is essentially a joke so saying it sounded like a parody is basically saying I attempted to sound serious but just sounded like a joke and William Shatner is quite known for his over the top deliveries so saying that I sounded like him was kind of saying, again, that it sounded like a joke. And then saying it was "a shame" that "I" did that way, it felt like as though I was supposed to feel bad or embarrassed for the way I did it. I think your guys' opinions could have been stated more tactfully than that. Maybe you didn't intend for those things to mean anything but when I read them that's how I interpreted them. Regardless, I did the VO how I felt it best suited the project and I stand by what I did. I've listened to it quite a few times, trying to see it from the other POV, and I still don't think there was anything wrong with the way I chose to read it. I'm sure if I had read it with my "natural" voice that people would have just said the opposite and said that I sounded bored or should sound more excited. I'm sure no matter how I'd have chosen to handle it, someone somewhere wouldn't have liked it. I can't please everyone, so in the end it's up to my discretion how I choose to execute certain portions of the project. There's going to be people with all different ideas and opinions about how to do this and that. The best thing I can do is take all of that and decide what I personally think will suit the project best. So thank you for the advice, I'll keep it in mind, but I also have to do what I think will best suit the project and that may be different than what you think would best suit the project. Then why are you so focussed on the criticism about one little point of a random person on the internet. If this is your argumentation, my positive feeback wouldnt mean anything to you because I'm just another random person on the internet. And I dont want to put fuel to this discussion but remebering how you criticised so many people on the forum, you should get a thicker skin for criticism because we all had to when you criticised us. I'm just a random person on the internet and dont know anything about psychology, but as an advise: I can imagine what you mean and understand what bothered you about the criticism but your argumentation here sounds childish and also arrogant. Maybe (as I said before) next time dont upload something if you cant stand critic OR bite your tongue and just accept the critic (because that is what professionals do).

Should we just leave it now? If you want to continue to discuss it, do it in a PM group or something.

I'm out of this thread, it's not worth the energy. K. Good luck with everything.

I agree. I made this project to make people happy, not to have arguments. Let's steer the conversation back to the video, please.

I agree also, it's getting on the verge of hostile now and its off topic; I don't want to be closing threads. As in wonderland said, continue it in a PM.

I like the way the voice sounds in the beginning although I do think it would have been better if you made it sound like that if it was her entire career because the last few years and her latest album Era have been the weakest

Given the whole mess the era has been, I find that making a sort of slightly sarcastic intro was kind of appropriate. To me, it's kind of lighthearted. But hey, it's my opinion.

Notice how I didn't say anything like "We celebrate Avril's amazing new album!" or anything like that, but I just called it "another chapter" in Avril's career. Which it was.

Jesus, the last thing I expected was to come here 2 pages later and find you still going on about my comments - you've blown it way out of proportion!
I was trying to give a bit constructive criticism (talking about 1minute out of a +2hr video, the rest of which I thought was great). As I said, I couldn't find the right way to describe what was off about the voice-over so I tried using some descriptions to convey my meaning. Please don't come at me with your "You don't know what you're talking about", this just comes across as a pretty arrogant attitude. Besides, you may not know this, but I've studied music, audio technology and music & theatrical performance! I damn well know how to record voices and how to sound natural when reading a script.
My intention was never to be mean but I will give you another bit of constructive criticism - not everyone will like what you do, if you disagree with their comments either politely say "thanks" or ignore them, then you can decide to either ignore what they're saying or take it on board, maybe their ideas will help you in the future, or maybe they're just silly remarks that you should ignore, whatever you take from peoples negatives comments, the worst thing to do is get all defensive and start arguing about it like you have here.
That said, would you rather everyone lied to you and said it was perfect?

^ thanks I don't want to close this thread, the discussion ends now about the voice. Anymore of the discussion about her voice will result in a possible punishment.

I would be interested I knowing how people liked the 17 video. I think it's such a shame Avril's team didn't release one officially. I think an official video for 17 would have look similar to the one you did. And I think it's better that they didnt do it. I mean, I love watching old scenes from Avril during her LG/UMS-days, as I said before: She was so special back than and you just had to love her because she was so silly but at the same time she could reflect very well on her own life and career. So a video full of 17-year-old-Avril would be lovely BUT it would just show and remind anyone again how much special she used to be and how she is now... I mean, I'm still a fan but I think everyone agrees that she isnt that special anymore. With an official video like that she would become even more a "used-to-be"-person. That's why I think the throwback-references on AL (HTNGU-video with tie and skateboard, GF-reference in RnR) were sweet, but it doesnt really help Avril to re-invent herself. But maybe that's just me, seeing things in a non-existing video that dont make much sense

I could see how releasing the video would maybe just make people miss the "old" Avril. But I also personally would have loved seeing it, for nostalgia reasons and I'm sure a lot of fans would. A lot of us really loved the Complicated throwback in HTNGU. Not to mention that 17 is just too good not to have a video. I wish she could have done something like Beyoncé did, where each song had a video. There was a lot of potential for all or most of the AL songs to have videos which I think would have been very cool.

I wish FTP's video shoot hadn't been cancelled; if its video had been shot, it could have been a more proper single.
