I get your point. She's not as big as Taylor but what makes a hit? I mean... call me maybe was totally the opposite of what was on the radio at the time. Somebody that I used to know was also very different. The same with despacito and Royals. It's always the unexpected I believe. Avril just hasn't found her path. She's too lost in the genres she wants to sing. And I believe that it has something to do with her not listening to a lot music as she already stated. "Somebody" got lots of airplay on alternative stations. I doubt they would even play anything off HAW except maybe DB. If they don't play it or promo it, even with streaming available, its tough to make a hit. I think the biggest handicap is promo. It's not the early 2000s anymore. You don't go a late night show and send it to MTV to make a hit happen. But TMIO can appeal to new audiences for sure and a song like that, if promoted correctly could be a moderate hit like love on the brain. It has the same vibe...

I've just read on twitter that head above water was supossed to have several nominations at the grammy's this year but then her name was removed from the list after the voting or something. This was said by chief Deborah Dugan (an insider from the recording academy). I know we've already talked about it and that this album may not deserves a grammy award but IMHO the single head above water deserved to be recognised for its story and for what the song mean for the world and the fight against lyme.

Can you share the tweet? Was Avril really mentioned by name? Yesterday on the news they reported the nominees and winners are artists with connections. So if she mentioned Avril by name then I believe it. Avril seems to have no connections anymore. Bye LA Reid.

^ I read that this woman also mentioned a similar thing about Taylor, that RED was originally supposed to have won Album of the Year back in 2014. This woman has been revealing things about the shady voting practices by the Grammys that have apparently gone on for years, I have to wonder if there's any truth to it. And especially this thing about Avril supposedly being nominated. It would explain why she performed at the Grammy Museum last year, I thought it would be kind of strange for her to perform there considering she has never won or even been nominated since her freakin' first album. Made me think it was a possibility maybe they were going to throw her a bone in one of the minor categories. As for what makes a song a hit, well besides promo, streaming is really where it's at right now. And Avril's fans are sort of in this weird in-between age range where we grew up with buying music so it's like some of her fans are really into streaming services but others are still stuck in this old-fashioned mindset of still buying their music. Could be why her songs never really move up the charts and her streaming numbers are kind of meh. Besides that, this whole album was sort of a quiet release where not a lot of people even knew it was out, some don't even know she is back with new music, like they think the last thing she put out probably was HTNGU or maybe even going as far back as WTH or GF. Then you've got all the crazies who believe she died Thank God Billie Ellish talks about Avril a lot to sort of remind people of her existence.

Hmm I have tried to see if I can find this tweet, either Deborah deleted a bunch of tweets or this never happened. I've tried to find the ones about Taylor and others too and I think a lot of this info might be fake, I came across a bunch of stuff that ended up being fake memes people made to be funny. So be sure whatever tweet you're referring to was a real tweet and not just something someone made up. I honestly would have a hard time believing Avril was actually in the running for a bunch of nominations this year for an album that pretty much flopped and a lead single that didn't even make the top 40.

I think she never tweeted that. Some Avril fan accounts on Twitter are very weird, making up a lot of things, trying to sound touched. I found this earlier: hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=319622&redirect=mobile Getting a Grammy nomination means 1) having friends in the industry, 2) working really hard to get recognized by media, journalists etc. And we all know, Avril has none. ^ I read that this woman also mentioned a similar thing about Taylor, that RED was originally supposed to have won Album of the Year back in 2014. This woman has been revealing things about the shady voting practices by the Grammys that have apparently gone on for years, I have to wonder if there's any truth to it. Then you've got all the crazies who believe she died Thank God Billie Ellish talks about Avril a lot to sort of remind people of her existence. To have a decent steaming numbers, besides old fans, you need a lot of new who are either obsessed with the track or a huge group of new “fans” who are going to stream it because they read/heard about it from some source. An old fan base, waiting for your comeback when you are away and practically not active on social media, won’t be helpful at all. All tv appearances, performances, promo on the streets... it’s not for fans, if for people who don’t know you or forgotten about your existence. For old, loyal fans you can drop a song out of nowhere and they don’t need a huge poster on the street to stream it. But they need to see this poster to feel better about loving the artist - is psychological at this point.

Right, I don't think it was exactly any secret the Grammys and other award shows have pretty much always been rigged to some extent, and also that having connections in the entertainment industry gets you places. Avril has never really had connections to anyone on the Grammys board, so it makes sense why she's never been nominated past her debut album.

She had one real chance - during the Let Go era, she lost and it became evident that the industry doesn’t like her that much. Or perhaps even more obvious when TBDT wasn’t nominated even though it sold very well and was very successful.

I see nothing about Avril +Grammys, only people talking about her in the tweet but the pictures never mention her. If Avril had a chance it would have been last year with the song HAW for a Christian song or a vocal award. But she hasn't even been nominated for any other award shows like Billboard, AMAs, or Brit Awards. She's completely ignored. I don't even recall her being nominated for Billboard, AMA, Brit Awards all decade 😔

Yeah, she isnt that kind of artist who gets things using her connections. That's what's maker her original in some way. I also read that evanluke was posting snippets from the song burning and apparently the latin american leg for the head above water tour will take place in summer 2020. Things are too quite for avril. February should be the month where she may star rehearsing for the eurpean leg but I don't think that will happen as we know she is kinda lazy but I may be wrong and she could surprise us! I wonder if she will keep the same set list or if she would add some changes.
Regarding the tweet about the grammy thing, it was posted by some fanpage, I can't remember whose account it was but If I happend to find it I will post it.

Another very short snippet of Burning was released.. You can absolutely say it's Avril and it's burning.. Wonder if it will ever leak completely, I am curious.

I hope Avril will change the setlist at least a little bit, like maybe add in some more HAW songs like keep IWIM, TMIO, and Warrior as part of the setlist permanently instead of rotating them. At this point I don’t think we can hope for any songs about Philip since they broke up, though maybe now that she’s rumored to be dating again we can get a performance of Crush? Such a crime she’s never performed that song live yet.

I really don’t see her changing the setlist. I hope she does, but I really don’t think she’ll bother.

She won’t change it very much I think because they did the visuals for certain tracks and I doubt they gonna put more money into production But I think we can count on some minor changes. Maybe she’s gonna start playing Smile which was rehearsaled for the US tour
