She sounds mostly like her self. Most Taylor Swift songs sound the same to me. I feel she doesn’t have a good vocal range and her chord progressions are mostly the same. I like the lyrics of the songs more than her songs. I’m gonna give folklore a try. I know this is off topic because we're talking about Taylor on an Avril thread. But I kinda agree with you. folklore is a good album but every song sounds the same to me, but it will probably grow on me. Though I don't think most of Taylor songs sound the same, I think her previous albums such as Fearless and Speak Now are filled with great songs. I think 1989 is a really good pop record imo and other than that she has a few songs that are kind of catchy but nothing special. I'm actually not surprised she dropped this album. All the big singers drop surprise albums so it was a matter of time before she did and Lover underperformed by her standards, plus she can't tour this summer as was the original plan. I don't think the general public care about her music like back in the 1989 era.

To be fair she was talking specifically about the song Epiphany so when she says she hasn't heard the album it doesn't mean she hasn't heard some songs. Also it seems like something may have been lost in translation. I don't recall Avril ever having a rumoured title of a song called Epiphany but something else may have been translated like that so who knows. When I googled “Avril Lavigne epiphany” the only thing that came up was a review of HAW the song with the writer calling it a “spiritual epiphany” so maybe that is where OP got it from. But nah, it is just a review of the song, she has never had even a rumored song with that title that we know of.

The only Taylor songs I’ve ever heard that sound like Avril are The Story of Us and Better Than Revenge from her 2010 album Speak Now. But Taylor has also always been a huge Paramore/Hayley Williams fan, so she easily could have been inspired by her as well. There’s also a bonus track from her 2006 debut album called I’m Only Me When I’m With You that Taylor said she wanted to sound like “Avril Lavigne country.” Then there is a bonus track on her 2012 album Red called Come Back, Be Here that sounds nearly identical to Wish You Were Here. I doubt it was intentional but it’s possible Taylor heard WYWH on the radio and maybe had it in the back of her mind when writing the song. Then the song Lover reminds me a lot of Tell Me It’s Over, but since TMIO wasn’t highly promoted I doubt Taylor even heard the song enough to be able to even subconsciously copy it. Fantastic references there and spot on. Taylor is a huge fan of so many : Gaga, Lana, Avril, Carol King, Joni Mitchell (whom she wrote about on Red). But Taylor is forever her own artist.

As much as I love Avril I can’t imagine the most successful artist in the world right now thinking “I need my next album to be more Avril lavigne”

It will be so funny if now that Avril might release some country songs that she is suddenly accused of copying Taylor. Taylor hasn’t done country in almost 10 years.

Have you seen her Spotify numbers? Some still care. A lot of them actually.

I don't think she meant anything like "she's not relevant anymore" Maybe lover was the TBDT for her, like the begenning of her downfall, who knows. I personally think she'll be relevant at least 5 more years or maybe even 10 depending on her choices and how she rebrands herself again, which she is really good at doing that.

That was her peak.

Maybe her SuperStar status will start to wane a little, but I wouldn’t count on it. To me, Folklore is her new peak.

Ok I think we’ve explained away the Avril/Taylor comparison so let’s bring this back to topic. We have a dedicated Taylor thread in the Music Discussion forum.

The only song I've listened from HAW lately is TMIO. I'm ready for a new era. Who knows when exactly that will be though.
