Avril said that TBDT tour was the first time having set director. Considering the set list and production currently is quit unprepared, if Avril isn't quit involved into it, maybe she should find another one

Depends on the album. TBDT needed it. GL didn't really. AL should have had some better set up, but they tried with the big screen with all the photos and the bad girl video. So if Avril is going on a 6th tour, the tour depends on the album that are being made.

I'm not really into gimmicky live performances, with dancers and guys in bearshark costumes prancing around. My point? I hope she doesn't even NEED a set director.
But yes, if her next tour is going to involve all that crap then she'll need someone to choreograph it all.

Most of her fans go to her tour to see her, hear her live and play some instruments. Nobody cares about her guitar player's or her band's skills, and certainly not the dancers and crap. And Avril can't dance.
I don't know what exactly it is that the set director does, but if he/she can't change the setlist or make it longer, then no, she doesn't need a set director.

Not all her fans go just to hear her sing, especially since her voice this tour wasn't great at all and she mostly just stood around. Yes, the music part is important but many people go to be entertained and to see a show. Personally I'm a huge fan of big production tours which is why TBDT is my favorite tour from her.
But as In Wonderland said, it depends on what kind of album she's doing too I guess. A big production wouldn't have suited GL. If the next album has a lot of fun songs on it, then maybe. She doesn't necessarily need dancers or costumes but she should do something more interesting with the staging and lighting. A black curtain with a video screen isn't interesting.
I like that TBDT had a pink stage with TBDT logo and a black and pink checkered stage, there was some cool lighting stuff going on, a video screen, and confetti at the end.
IMO TBDT is her best tour because it had something for everyone- parts with dancing, parts that were more stripped down, and she played all 3 instruments. The set list was mostly new material with her essential singles. There was a mixture of fun songs and ballads. It was a show, not just a concert. Most people these days go to see a show, not watch Avril stand still behind a mic and strum 3 chords on a guitar that's not even plugged in.
And if the next album was like GL, she could do a performance like the Roxy Theater. If she's not doing a big production, then a stripped down acoustic setting would suit it and her perfectly. The Roxy was one of her best performances.

Yeah actually a lot of times on tour her band will play something in between while Avril goes to change or whatever and the fans love it. On her last tour Rodney played a drum solo and it was awesome!
Fans of many artists care just as much about the live band as they do the artist. After all, who would want to see Avril singing well but have a shitty band behind her?

I do well, it's nice she has a good band to back her up. But my point is her shows lately aren't her shows. It's the band's show. They kickass and she just stands around being lazy- and I don't want that.

Personally I just like to see Avril and her band perform well. I have no idea why they'd need a set director for that, but maybe I don't really understand what a set director does. I always assumed they choreographed all that bullshit with dancers and light shows and whatnot. :/

Some of the best concerts I have ever attended involved musicians playing their instruments and singers singing their songs and little else. Anything over and above that was usually just a distraction. If the sound system was loud enough to hear them and the lights were bright enough to see them, that's all I ever wanted in a stage show. Of all the concerts I've been to, the only acts I can remember whose "stage show", special effects or theatrics actually enhanced the music were Pink Floyd and Alice Cooper.

I'd even argue that Pink Floyd and Cooper were a little showy for my taste. I've just never dug all that theatrical, larger than life spectacle stuff. Then again, I wasn't there, so what do I know?

Can't say I strongly disagree with you. But, how could you not enjoy seeing Alice get his head chopped off in a guillotine?

But a little dance move would help the show to be more entertaining. I know you guys are talking about "band-wise" performance. However, have you seen what Bruno Mars and Carly Rae Jepsen? It doesn't require so much energy. Just like Avril could move more like in Smile music video.
