“Herd immunity.” In the absence of therapeutic treatments or a vaccine for the novel coronavirus, it suggests that there’s safety in numbers. Physicians say the reality is far more complex.
Patrick Vallance, the U.K.’s chief scientific adviser, said herd immunity is an option the government is exploring in its effort to grapple with the coronavirus-borne illness COVID-19. The aim would be to allow immunity to build up among members of the population who are least at risk of dying from COVID-19.“

Since today in Holland schools are closed so people with kids have a hard time finding someone to babysit since they have to go to work. Also restaurants, cafes, bars are closed now till April 6th but we don't now what to expect when that date is near. People who can work at home have to. I still have to go to my work as usual but we have some sick people (don't know a normal flu or Corona symptoms) I wash my hand obviously more often but it scares me a bit cause I also see people here who don't was their hands after using the toilet and now we have to think about eachother and come on, normally you wash your hands after using the toilet but now it's even more necessary. One thing I was a bit happy about, no traffic on the highway to my work. Usally mondays are a crime. What about numbers in holland? Here we just had the news of the first death

From the words of Conte, Macron, Trump, one thing is clear - once we're out of the crisis, business as usual in terms of economics won't be a viable option. The crisis is likely to stretch for months, and without a lot of goodwill among debt holders the economy won't survive getting to the other side. Countries debts are going to go through the roof, and not a single one will be spared. I don't like pompous statements, but this will be a defining moment for the world, that will leave a major mark on the 21st century.

I really think calling it the Boomer Remover is rather rude. 😅 OK Boomer! On another note, the grocery store I work at is running out of toilet paper, paper towels, and disinfectants constantly. My uni is going online for the next few weeks too.

Switzerland reached 2650 cases with 20 deaths. How did this get out of control like this? The information can be found in the link I posted earlier.

I can hardly believe it, but my country is banning any "gathering" of more than one person where the people involved are not from the same household, and banning all gatherings of more than 5 people, even if they just a larger family. Essentially, basic freedoms curtailed to almost nothing. I'm no extrovert, and I feel the anxiety from this new rule already. This certainly isn't sustainable for more than a few weeks, it goes against the very basics of our society and of human nature.

I've been working from home all week and will be next week too, we have been told to at least work from home for the next 2 weeks, but after next week, I don't know if they could end up extending it. All the bars, restaurants, movie theaters, schools, universities, etc. have closed in the US. Only grocery stores, pharmacies, airports, hospitals, etc. remain open, though with shortened hours so stores can restock overnight.
My mom's aunt passed away the other day of pneumonia and congestive heart failure and I am really surprised we are actually going to still have a funeral for her on Saturday. All the churches in my state were ordered to close all masses, even for funerals and weddings, yet somehow we were able to arrange a funeral for her.
I'm not getting people who are complaining about being bored at home. Are these people not still working? Ok some people cannot do their work from home, but surely there's a lot of productive things you can be doing at home? Half the time people are complaining they don't have enough free time. I'm at home and still don't have a lot of free time, I'm still working 8 hours a day and then doing my online business classes. I WISH all I could do was sit on my ass all day long and watch movies, for real people complaining they're bored need to get a life. I will say though, I'm not even a big socializer, but I wish I could at least go out to eat with my boyfriend somewhere, I'm not bored, but the cabin fever is starting to get to me a little, being cooped up in the house all day with my crazy family lol And the weather here sucks too, it is either too cold or raining to even just go outside for a walk.

I am wondering how many people can actually work from home, if I look at economy structures in Europe, you can find major industrial sectors, service sectors tied to culture, entertainment, hospitality, tourism, trades (hairdressers, plumbers, etc.), transportation and logistics, which are majority on-site jobs. The only ones that are clearly not tied to certain workplaces are accounting/business/marketing, journalism, good portion of computer tech jobs, and similar. And I think a major part of people complaining is also people transforming their general anxiety toward particular, 'socially acceptable' complaints - boredom, etc.

And I think a major part of people complaining is also people transforming their general anxiety toward particular, 'socially acceptable' complaints - boredom, etc. Where I am most people can work remotely. I work at a news station inputting commercials and even I am able to mostly work remotely. It's not perfect and some things are a bit harder to do off a small laptop screen instead of having 2 giant monitors to work from, but I am managing to make it work, considering it is only temporary for maybe a few weeks. The people who have to write the news and report the stories of course could not work from home, but every other department I believe is working remotely. With computers and technology being as sophisticated as it is now, most jobs can be done remotely if needed. Only people like waiters, store workers, delivery drivers, healthcare workers couldn't work from home. And even then restaurants that do take out are still allowed to be open. As we've seen, musicians that have had to cancel tours are doing whatever they can to keep an income coming in by doing virtual concerts. A large number of people in the US work in insurance or tech, so your average person is likely able to work from home at this time. Anything that basically requires being there in person (if your job was to cook food for example or stock shelves) would be the only exceptions.

I work at a grocery store and every time I clock in it's super crazy. It's so busy and they had to limit how much "post-apocalyptic" stuff you can buy(only 1 meat, 1 bag of toilet paper, 1 bag of paper towels per customer). I frequently see all the easy-to-prepare foods gone from the shelves and it makes my job much more stressful because there are so many customers.

I feel bad for anyone who has to work in a grocery store, restaurant, or hospital, 'cause you not only still have to work and be exposed to everyone, but you also have to deal with stupid people who get angry if you run out of something.
