AL7 Album Speculations Thread

To be honest, she never was a critic's darling. Even Let Go wasn't all that praised. The album left its mark when it comes to cultural impact and massive sales (success).
On Metacritic she doesn't have a single album above 70. I doubt she will ever get an really critically acclaimed album unless she goes full on singer-songwriter with an important message.
GL at least didn't have a straight out negative review, read this one by The Guardian for UMS.

I'm extremely happy she's working with these People.

ModSun is not known at all I would say..but his material is FANTASTIC, imo even better than MGK. But he's not known, having Avril as a feature must be a dream to him. So who knows, he might be happy at anything Avril wants or does.

John Feldman, MGK and Barker anyways seem (and are) more self confident, so this is why I really hope they don't behave like Yes-Men saying "yes" or "cool" to anything Avril does but I hope they put her into a right direction this time, letting her out of her comfort zone

I had a dream last night that somehow when Flames was released, Avril snuck in an extra audio file so we could hear one of the songs from AL7, or maybe within the dream I noticed it there and thought she had meant to release a preview but put in the whole song by accident because that’s totally a mistake her team would make lol

But anyway the song was called Bad Girls and it was a feature, but I’m not sure who with. I don’t remember anything about how it sounded, it sounded like upbeat pop/rock and it was just ok but nothing super memorable or not something I’d be inclined to call as classic or iconic as her hits. I was a little disappointed that she would name a song with basically a similar title as a previous song. I remembered thinking she should have previewed a much better song, like the lead single instead of this random album track.

It’ll be interesting to see how accurate my dream is, I don’t think Avril will sneak an AL7 preview in Flames and I doubt it’ll be called Bad Girls, but maybe my reaction will be the same lol

Lol same. “I blacked out I think, what did you put in my drink, I remember making out and then...” and then what? date rape? Smiles chorus is one of her best from her upbeat songs imo but the verses are just awful.

"Smile" is one of my favorite songs from Avril, but that line has always rubbed me the wrong way. Even back when Goodbye Lullaby was released and I was a lot younger, I still thought it was pretty gross to make light of being roofied. I know there was a conversation about problematic lyrics in another thread here (don't remember which), and this lyric definitely falls under that. Now that Avril is a 36 year old woman and especially since lyrics like the aforementioned would be called out on a larger scale, I don't expect Avril to surprise us with any lyrics like that on "Flames" or AL7.
