I could ask almost anyone, if Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers, or The Eagles, are rock bands? And almost anyone would say yes. So It's all very subjective don't you think?

1. Who is the frontman of Guns ‘N Roses? Was never a fan. But, knew it anyway.
2. In which year did rock magazine Rolling Stone begin its publication? I knew this because, I had a copy of the first edition. I bought it because it had a pic of John Lennon on the cover. It would be quite valuable, if it hadn't been ruined in a flood.
3. What event sparked the break-up of Led Zeppelin in 1980? I've been a huge Led Zeppelin since their first album. I own them all.
4. In which UK county was Deep Purple formed? I just read the answer. And, I still don't know.
5. Which American singer has provided vocals for glam-rock band Queen since 2012? Of course, I knew this. I think I should have gotten a bonus point for knowing that Paul Rodgers stood in for Freddie Mercury for several years prior to that.
6. A performance by The Who ended in tragedy when a crowd crush killed 11 fans in 1979 – in which city did this take place? First, I've been a fan of The Who forever. Second, I live in Ohio. I own a t-shirt that says 'I'd walk over you, to see The Who'. It has never been worn. It was probably in poor taste to buy it. It would have been even worse to actually wear it.
7. The Eagles most recent studio album, released in 2007, marked their first studio release since 1979’s The Long run – what is it called? I own everything they ever released and have known Joe Walsh for nearly 50 years. So, yeah.
8. Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard formed Pearl Jam in 1990 after the demise of their previous group – what was it called? Not a big fan. But, I love their cover of 'Love Reign O'er Me', by The Who. I know nothing of their early history.
9. In what year was the Beatles inducted into the Hall of Fame? I was aware of it, at the time. Forgot the year.
10. What is the real name of The Damned’s bass player and guitarist Captain Sensible? Didn't know this.
11. Motorhead’s Ian Kilmister is better known by what name? Never was a fan. But, knew it anyway.
12. Them Cooked Vultures is the name of a supergroup combining three members of famous bands, name the members and their original bands (a point for each.) I never heard anything they did. But, I knew two of the names, because Paul Rodgers and Dave Grohl were involved.
13. How many studio albums did The Stone Roses release? I only really liked one of their songs 'Love Spreads'. I didn't like anything on the second album. Still, was disappointed there wasn't a third.
14. What was the first hit single of pop rock singer Avril Lavigne? Duh!!!
15. In what year did Jimi Hendrix die? I was a senior, in high school. He died on a Friday. I didn't hear about it until the next day, at work. I got so drunk I puked out my friend's car window. It didn't get washed of soon enough and it ate the paint.
So, I got 12.

All of those bands are considered rock. However, I do agree that what is "rock" is subjective. And there are so many different subgenres of rock too. I remember I once went to a music store in San Francisco, it was like a vintage record shop but they had CDs and stuff. There was no pop section, everything was labeled as "rock," "Rap/R&B/Hip Hop," "Classical," "Jazz," and "World," I think. Anything that would be considered pop was in the rock section, even Britney Spears. There was a time when rock n roll music simply meant anything that went against the grain at the time, like our grandparents grew up listening to jazz and stuff. Rock n roll was radical for its time. Then over time pop came to mean popular music. So yes depending on the context, Britney Spears could be considered a rock n roll artist because she is not jazz, world, classical, or rap. It's essentially another way of differentiating popular/mainstream music from non-mainstream.

Britney as rock? Don't let the Grammy's hear you 😓
I agree that music is subjective. Avril played at Rock am Ring after all.
Btw I'd like to add to Bo's list. Sk8er Boi should be listed as pop punk.

Okay let me clarify myself, and why I said what I said. My point is that if you use the premise that Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers and The Eagles are all rock bands, and that most would agree that these are indeed rock bands. If you use that as premise I think that at the very least you could say that Avril Lavigne's first few albums were rock albums too. And you could easily go as far to say that the majority of her album 'Under My Skin' was a rock album, because it rocks easily just as hard as the majority of these bands’ music. But for some reason whenever the subject of Avril Lavigne's music comes up in relation to rock, people are very quick to point out and differentiate it and say that it is not rock, but pop rock. And I have come to the conclusion that that is a double standard. But because people have pushed this narrative for so long. I think that many people have just accepted it as a fact, and perhaps without even realizing it. Why because that is what we have heard since she first released her first few albums, and ever since. And if you had ever tried to argue that point, the self-appointed rock aficionados were all too happy to set the record straight as they see it. And all I'm really trying to say is that enough is enough and that there is no denying that her first few albums were rock albums. I’ve been a rock fan all my life and it is pretty much all I really listened too and have ever bought. And if Avril hadn't made those first few rock albums, I would have never become a fan.
I'm really not the best writer, so I hope I made my point clear.

Someone in the comment section said Metallica invited her to play Rock Am Ring. I just find that hard to believe. She put on a rock show there as former fans point out in the comment section but I found it very boring. But to be fair I think despite Avril not being completely rock she can put on a good rock show. Like when I went to see her it felt like a fun rock show. My sister who is not into that pointed that out too lol. I think Budokan is a great example of the classy rock show Avril can put on.

Stevie Knicks can rock so I hear you Jim.
Sorry to post twice in a row. I get excited when discussing music. But I just remembered our Queen's influence on hip hop music. Nobody's Fool is epic, TDHTT, Bitchin Summer who I still cringe to. Music really is subjective. And we all have our tastes.
