You mean, Avril playing guitar & drums?
TAKE ME AWAY, TOGETHER, NOBODY'S HOME.....
but it's an impossible dream.
"Not enough" on drums would be amazing. But this is also an impossible dream.
I'll settle with My Happy Ending... she'll do it, of course....

I only want to see Avril play the guitar if she is really going to play it like on NH. I'm bored of seeing her half heartedly strumming 3 chords on the same few songs and we can't even hear her playing.
It's fun to see her play the drums but I don't really care about it.
What I really want is to see her play piano again. I think she is better at piano than guitar or drums and she never plays enough. I want to see her play acoustic guitar solo on Darlin and piano on Remember When. But I know that's basically never going to happen. She'll continue half assing the guitar on the same 3 songs....

Most of her songs are quite easy enough to play solo on guitar LG-Complicated/TINS UMS-Take Me Away/Who Knows/Fall to Pieces, even MHE,DTM,HW, NH are all guitar based songs they can all sound good if she performs and actually play her acoustic/electric guitar. TBDT -ICDB, Runaway, Hot, OOTG, Contagious Basically the whole GL. AL- RNR, BS, FF,HeHe
Piano songs - Together, slipped away, innocence, IWB, WYG, RW, goodbye, HYRM, LMG, HH,
She could literally make a solo show, if she actually made an effort to polish up her instrument skills with the band kicking out only at certain intervals, and stuffs like intros, solos and interludes and when she wants to perform certain songs to sound as they are in the albums and those require the whole band like Girlfriend, HTNGU etc.

Honestly I don't think Avril seems to take playing instruments all that seriously. I think she views them as fun and uses them when she writes new songs, but if she were really serious about it I think she'd try to improve her skills more. Her guitar/piano/drum skills have not changed or improved at all pretty much since she started, which is kind of a shame. After over 10 years of being in the business and being around so many talented musicians you'd think that she'd have improved at least a little bit. I don't expect her to be the next Slash or anything, but her skills are basic at best.
I get the sense that for Avril she thinks playing the guitar onstage makes her look like a rockstar and nothing else. She really only seems to take it seriously when she plays with the acoustic guitar and that's really rare nowadays for her to do that. A lot of fans feel Avril uses the guitar as a prop to make her look cool, it's actually never really plugged in at her concerts and you can't hear anything she's playing. I think if she were truly serious about playing instruments she would 1) Take lessons and try to improve and 2) She would play a lot more often than she does. She used to play instruments a lot in the UMS era, but since GL era she's made the bare minimum effort.

I would hope she decides to try to play instruments more often, in the making of songs but also on stage. I don't want or hope she will be a "virtuoso", but at least I would hope she TRIES to challenge herself a bit more. For the last two eras, she seemed to be content with pulling off a "safe" concert, mainly full of singles (old and new), "classic" moves (like the He Wasn't thing) and short concerts considering her 10+ career (she had an excuse during last tour, considering her health issues). She doesn't need any kind of dancers or stupid paraphernalia, she and her band give it all should be enough. Will she want to step up her game and show she wants to be better musician and artist on and off stage? I have my doubts, but we'll see...

Yes, Avril's moves were unoriginal and uninteresting during AL tour, but on the other hand BST was full of new moves. In fact I enjoyed Avril's stage moves the most in GL era. Only in BST she was doing moves like this one:

But she was sick during her tour last year Not during the first leg of the tour. I mean the Asian concerts in February 2014. Plus the North American Jingle Ball tour in december 2013. But other than that you're right. We can't blame Avril for poor quality concerts after she became sick.

what was wrong with jingle ball 2013 I was still referring to what Jack had written about Avril playing it safe with the "classic" moves. But I admit it actually wasn't that bad. The problems with staying still even when performing up-tempo songs started with the Asian tour in late January 2014.
