I heard they could spy on everything in Windows 10. My boyfriend tells me we shouldn't download it but I have a lot of errors in my original windows 7. My iPod cannot update anymore and during installing updates for windows 7 sometimes he just 'keeps hanging' you know what I mean?Frustrating tho.. Yes I do, and I have a very fast internet connection. I think it's because Windows 7 is 6 years old, and the servers aren't prioritized by Microsoft anymore. It'll eventually work, you just need to be patient. But I'm with your boyfriend about switching to Windows 10. I'd ask him to reinstall Windows 7, if it's broken.

But you can turn off most of the spying options. I wouldn't be surprised if they already spied on us with Windows 7. It's just more obvious with Windows 8 and 10. I don't know how to multi quote so I'll do it this way to both of you,
First, thanks for the reply!! And second yes with Windows 7 they can also spy but yeah maybe with 8 and 10 more.. I didn't knew you could turn it of.. Or are they saying you can do that but still spy?

Yeah, most of the things can be turned off but I don't know whether that will stop them from spying. If I were you, I'd probably do what Harvey suggested. Can't hurt.

My iPod cannot update anymore and during installing updates for windows 7 sometimes he just 'keeps hanging' you know what I mean? Frustrating tho.. Even if you wanted to install W10, you wouldn't be able to until you had successfully installed all of your W7 updates. I've had the same trouble installing updates. I would suggest you do not try to install all of the updates at the same time. Try installing no more than ten updates at a time and try to isolate which ones are causing the problem. Reboot after installing each group of ten. Then try to install the ones that failed, last. This has always worked for me. As for being spied on, we have talked about this earlier in this thread. Everything you need to disable in Windows 10. Personally, I've gotten over the idea that what I do on a computer is interesting enough to spy on. Google is a bigger threat to your privacy than Microsoft. We've also talked about reinstalling Windows vs repairing it, earlier in this thread. Needless to say, before you do anything major, make sure all your files are backed up. If you do a clean install, you then have to reinstall all your apps and files. You also have to reinstall all of the updates. This can take forever. Before you do that, you might want to try to repair Windows. If you fail at this, you can always go for the clean install. Boot from the W7 install disk and select "Repair Windows". This could save you a lot of time. If you need any help, PM me. Always happy to help.

More like a few hours, but I guess that might not be practical for some. And I definitely don't want to get into another debate about what the best way to install Windows is.

Internet surveillance has been around long before Windows 10 came about- the tracking they use in 10 is also now in 7, too. But you can uninstall the update i think

You can't make a blank statement like that without knowing what the user/customer has on their computer. I'm working on a computer right now that is a perfect candidate for a clean install. I've got six hours into it and I could have been done with it several hours ago. It's running Vista. She's had it for eight years and the only files that would need to be archived are in the music folder. No videos. No pictures. Almost no apps. I'm just curious to see if I can determine the cause of the original problem. I wouldn't devote this much time to it were it not for my curiosity and the fact she is a friend. Her complaint is she is getting the BSOD. I haven't been able to make that happen. I'd hate to do a clean install before I've ruled out a hardware problem. There is no rule of thumb about how to solve Windows problems. Every machine is different and your experience isn't going to be the same as mine. Nothing wrong with a friendly debate.

Well, it's a more realistic guesstimate than "forever". I've fixed quite a lot of computers too, and in all the cases where I recommended a clean install, all of them were up and running a few hours later. In my experience, most people just don't have that much stuff on their systems, and those who do are usually the sort of people who don't need my help. Of course, BSODs are a different story, and can be a nightmare to get to the bottom of - not to mention costly, if it turns out to be a hardware thing. But unless someone specifically mentions them, there's no reason to get ahead of ourselves.

Windows 7 users who want no part of all this telemetry nonsense should avoid these:- KB2952664 KB3068708 KB3075249 KB3080149 KB3035583 There might be more that I'm not aware of. Post 'em if you got 'em.

I like Windows 10- faster than the 8, in my case. Ever since upgrading, however, I can't stream much of anything, especially Netflix, which is extremely disappointing.

Have you tried a browser other than Edge? I tried edge and Firefox. I googled the problem when they first rolled out the update and noticed the issue and saw other people reporting a problem with video streaming as well. I haven't looked to see if there is a fix in a while as I have been using my tablet more frequently.
