Do you have to save everything you have stored on your computer? Or will it be moved with the update and only save what you want as a backup? By default, the upgrade will keep all your files and most of the apps you have installed. Media Center is not available. The standard Microsoft games that came on Windows 7, like solitaire and mine sweeper are not on Windows 8 or 10 but, are free from the Microsoft store. My recommendation is that before you make any major changes to your computer, you backup your all your files to some kind of external media. DVDs, "the cloud" or preferably an external hard drive. My personal preference is to save a complete copy of the hard drive, called an image file. This permits you to completely restore your computer to the way it was before you started making changes. Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I don't know how I missed your post.

Welp I've upgraded and I like it a lot, trying out Edge too. I won't miss Windows 8 So far, I'm thinking the difference between IE11 and Edge is pretty much like the difference between google and bing. I refuse to use bing. There is a way to get around using bing as the default search engine for Edge but, I'm going to have to look in my Opera browser history to find it.

I changed edges search engine to storm, which is waterfoxes default I read there was a way to do it but, I didn't bother to read how. Please let me know if you think there is anything about Edge that makes it more useful than anything else. Otherwise, I'm just going to keep using Opera and Waterfox.

So I did a clean install of Windows 10. I'm glad I had the patience to do the dual boot thing instead of making it my primary OS, because my experience has been a bit of a mixed bag:-
- Can't disable Windows updates - Can't disable Windows defender - Can't specify a download folder in Edge without messing around with the registry - "Sign in to your MS account" prompts everywhere - I've run into a few compatibility issues and minor glitches with certain software - Sluggish boot times, Welcome screen takes ages to go away (I'm way above the system requirements btw)
+ Despite what I just said about the boot times and Welcome screen, performance is otherwise very good + Good support for legacy hardware, which is useful when you insist on using a 10-year-old sound card + I like the interface; half of that crap in the Start menu I'll probably never use, but it's all very elegant and unimposing
I might add a few more negatives or positives when I've played around with it some more, but this summarises what I've seen so far. I think I'll be using Windows 7 until it stops doing what I need it to do and I'm forced to make the switch.

I would say in terms of speed its faster- I think it got 1.33 Ms in the sunspider test- I'm using it now but really I'm going to wait until they add more features to it before I consider it my default browser.

I think I'll be using Windows 7 until it stops doing what I need it to do and I'm forced to make the switch. "Can't disable Windows updates" - At least you can schedule a reboot. That solves my primary concern. Updates that don't work can be hidden. Can't disable Windows defender - Defender can be disabled with the group policy editor (if you have W10 pro). Any replacement for Defender will disable it by default. Sluggish boot times - After several days of running and restarts, you might see some improvement after everything is totally updated. I did. The ASUS laptop I installed 10 on has only a 1ghz AMD processor with an on-die gpu. On the first day, I could not play an HD youtube video at all. Now, no problem. half of that crap in the Start menu - This area is highly customizable. Right click on objects you don't want to see for options. With a low performance machine like the one I'm testing with, it is going to take some tweaking to get max performance out of it for what I want it to do. Things like, disabling unnecessary background apps and services. It has 4 gig of ddr3 ram but, half of it is being used. I can and will reduce that.

The low performance is only really when logging in (does take awhile as previously stated) but it will get better with time- it's a lot more stable than Windows 8 for me and probably takes advantage of my hardware better. I really love Edge though, add HTML importing and target downloads+extensions and I'm sold

So do we already know if Edge is better than Chrome ? I have zero computer knowledge and I'd like to know which one would be best to use I agree it is faster and it has some pretty slick new features. Most of the reviews of Windows 10 and Edge are generally favorable. I haven't read any reviews that totally trash the new OS or browser. Personally, I hate chrome. The last time I tried it, I was shocked at how much bigger the installation file was compared to everything else. And of course, google doesn't bother to explain what all the extra software is for. I haven't had the chance to test the more advanced features of Edge but, I think the voice recognition feature of Cortana seems interesting. There are plenty of reviews and demonstrations on youtube.

I finally got it yesterday, I made a backup copy (image) just in case. I had to download the accumulative update and new drivers for my video card (from NVIDIA website because Windows Update gave me an error), but I haven't had a problem. It looks similar to 8.1 (the previous one I had), but it looks a bit faster and smoother. I'm going to still be using Chrome until Microsoft adds extensions for Edge, but I'll start using the new Windows browser eventually, just to see how it works. Let's hope it works better than the crappy IE.
