I never took you as a Potter fan It's just part of being "the cool uncle". My favorite niece knew if her parents wouldn't take her to the movies, I would. So, I saw most of them with her.

Me with my mom, we are both Tolkien fans so she wanted to watch last Hobbit film with me. That was a very emotional day. This was when I was trying to deal with my hard midterms, these days are quite depressing lol. 1. Let's study! 2. What the hell is it... 3. It's not even my department's lesson! 4. I give up... And this was from my birthday, January 23. I love this series of pictures, lol! And yes, the last Hobbit movie...I really hoped that with all the changes Peter Jackson introduced he would spare Thorin Oakenshield...but obviously that would have been going too far. Yet...poor Thorin. He would have been a great King Under The Mountain-once he got rid of that draconian obsession with Smaug's treasure of course. And I really loved Martin Freeman as Bilbo. He was as good as Cate Blanchett and Sir Ian Mckellen and that stands for exceptionally good.

We can criticize many things about it except the cast! They are all awesome, I think Martin Freeman was born to play this role, lol. And even though Thranduil's portrayal was quite dark and cold (Because Thranduil was pretty friendly to Bilbo in the book), it was so noble and elegant as well so Lee Pace did an awesome job too. Ian McKellen is a legend, Cate Blanchett is a Goddess so I don't even say anything about them, lol.

Kaan^Yeah, I was also surprised about how they focused on Thranduil's "dark side"-of course that enabled them to give more credibility to Legolas-Tauriel story (ugh)- but I think that was ultimately a good point. Same as showing the battle against the Dark Lord in Dol Guldur, it is never told in the actual book, just kind of suggested by Gandalf. And I really loved that they managed to transmit the lighthearted, child-like, charming feeling of the book-just like they managed to transmit the epic magnificence and solemnity of The Lord Of The Rings. And just let me add how great Richard Armitage was as Thorin. To sum up, I think that Peter Jackson is a good director and does know the work of Tolkien well enough to make a movie that's not subpar with the books, but for some reason this time he had to meet with the cliché Hollywood requirements including the triangular love story (Kili-Tauriel-Legolas) and the single father protecting his family (Bard) both of which are enough to make any Tolkien fan puke from embarrassment. However, Jackson does it so well that's believable for someone who hasn't read the books- still I hate how he Hollywood-ed the story. The endless-and boring- combat between Azog and Thorin is yet another thing that gives me the impression that the Hollywood producers handled him a sheet of paper with the things he had to include and later checked them. Needless cheesy love story à la Pearl Harbor; checked. Bruce Willis-like father; checked. Epic prescindible fight between the two main rivals including impossible situations defying basic physics laws-seriously, that tower?- checked. And so on. Oh, and it's great your mom likes Tolkien My parents are not-so-fond of him I must say that at least they gave a chance to the movies, even when they disliked LOTR the first time they watched them and even tried to follow my explanations about how the characters are related to each other but they just couldn't keep the pace. After I tried to explain them how Galadriel is related to Arwen Evenstar my mother stated that Tolkien must have been high on drugs
