I like her energy on the performances but the live itself wasn't that good. Maybe was the editing but something was off. I really love it the interview, the way she says how was easy to make this album, she's almost surprised that it's still possible to achieve that 😂

Who knows, maybe after years of being forced to work with hitmakers and getting pushback from the label she kind of forgot how it is to make an album with people who actually get her vision and understand her.

I wonder if she was more hyped to be there because so many of her friends were there like Travis, MGK, Mod, and the woman who interviewed her. I definitely get that impression too. Which is another reason why it's been so great to see her being included in a group of artists this time. It feels like she's found a place in the music industry where she feels like she belongs and is welcomed with open arms, which I think makes her feel a lot more comfortable, relaxed and more excited in general for what she's doing. She spent most of her career doing things on her own and I think after she started having struggles with record labels, experiencing declining commercial success and seeing her career stagnate a little her passion and her conviction really started to suffer and it showed. Now that she's in such a supportive system she seems to be more in her natural element again and looks a lot happier and more enthusiastic. Really all that's missing at this point is is better communication and actual new music

What did they do to her voice in this video? Calgary and Toronto effects once again. Horrible! I don't get why they insist to turn her real voice into a Chipmunk character.

Saw the interview+performances and had to share some thoughts:
I'm a bit surprised she also decided to label her album as alternative now. Not quite sure if I like that. Several months ago she was still describing it as "rock all the way" iirc. To me it signals she's either trying to sell based on it "not being mainstream", by which I assume she doesn't expect it to do so well overall and is now trying to appeal to her more hardcore and possibly Mod Sun/the people in her surroundings's fans, or she's just absorbing those around her too much and kind of losing her own authenticity by styling herself similarly to them. Except she's now very much behind the trend in my opinion. That description of being her most alternative so far but then also pop-punk could indicate the album is either rather messy in a way she doesn't really know how to sell otherwise (which could mean a mediocre, incoherent and/or generic album which is a shame after all this) or she has been re-recording and changing things due to label demands or indecisiveness which also doesn't mean much good for the final product I think. It's beginning to sound quite a bit like an IKTR B-side collection. I also cringed a little bit at constantly saying that her fans are gonna love it because she honestly has been treating her fans poorly. Tone deaf given the situation IMO. Sounds like they're being taken for granted a bit.
Furthermore that she has a slot at a paid "livestream" event almost exactly a year after her own disastrous one (it still puts hers to shame btw) and then even has a spotlight interview but only chooses to give some vague info and backpedal on her time commitment from the past months by suddenly giving no timeframe at all is atrocious (also: why does everyone get to hear it but her fans? Everybody she talks to during interviews has supposedly heard the tracks). She's been appearing at a lot of events recently, to gather buzz and specifically to indicate that she's still here and the album will be out very soon and yet after these appearances where she kept saying one or two months she now actually talks about and describes the process in an interview but then suddenly abandons mentioning her timeframe of two months about two months after she first mentioned it? Bizarre. Not only that but then also proceeding to just yet again perform her two most overplayed hits that were also the same ones she very close to recording performed at a festival as a "surprise"? Seems a little lazy and like she's trying to have her cake and eat it too with pushing for the attention and buzz but not putting in the required effort to deliver anything. The performance itself was also honestly not the best. A lot more energetic and some fun interactions with those around her which is good but then her vocals and everything else about it suffered tremendously IMO. She seemed to fall into certain bad habits of weird accents, skipping lyrics, etc as well as trying too hard to project a rebel attitude with constant forced cursing (greeting your audience with "Hello fuckers"? Bit much) and she went totally out of breath during Girlfriend. The backing track was very noticeable as well. I'm wondering, or maybe hoping, if it's deliberately Sk8erboi and Girlfriend at every event as a marketing tactic to re-establish her to the public through the nostalgia angle and make the album get some free extra purchases off of the 2000s nostalgia wave rather than just laziness to do anything else than what she's learned to do in her sleep. I have no idea what's going on anymore but there seems to be this facade of energy and a return to more serious commitment to music but then behind it there's just been hot air so far. At this point I'm not surprised and every time I see she made an appearance somewhere I just expect nothing besides Flames (with a dash of Modvril PDA), Sk8erboi, Girlfriend and some vague sentence or two about a mythical album that's been done for most of the year and is a return to her roots followed by some (stealth) promotion for whatever company or product. Which is sad because I've only been here for about a year at this point, not two decades.
Sorry to be so negative. Perhaps it's influenced by a rather shocking emergency situation that I was present for which landed my father in critical condition in the hospital and I'm being much too harsh about an otherwise ok appearance. About other things I'm much more positive lately. I just can't comprehend this dance with Avril anymore every time I see another "soon" or non-info answers and I guess it's frustration with seeing somebody get away with putting in so little effort for those that love them repeatedly while in the real world things are often very harsh and unforgiving. At least the energy on stage was very high. I'm glad to see she's improving at that every time she does something.

Sorry to hear about your dad heibei.
I didn’t think much of her “alternative” descriptor, just that it probably is a lot like IKTR since it was made with the same group of collaborators. And she probably meant it is less pop than her last few albums. Alternative these days can kind of mean almost anything that doesn’t fit into mainstream pop (folklore and evermore, Billie Eilish, Lorde, CHVRCHES for example). All those records have pop elements but they aren’t mainstream pop if that makes sense. UMS is probably Avril’s closest record to an alternative album so I think that’s sort of what she means.

Sounds a bit hard selling tbh "The fans gonna love it" sounds exactly like when she promoted TBDT How on the earth alternative and pop can exist in same song, I don't know. Or she is hinting something like My Happy Ending

Sorry about your dad HeiBai, I hope things will get better. Sending you a hug filled with positive energy I wouldn't read too much into the alternative thing. She said it's probably her most alternative album, but that doesn't mean anything because all her other records were super poppy, so it's not like it would take much to have a slightly more alternative sound. Knowing her it will probably still be super commercial sounding anyway. If anything, I hope that by saying it's a little more alternative it means the type of pop-punk she went for is a little less bubblegum than TBDT and perhaps a bit more grown-up. That would be ideal to me, personally.

Hmmm I'm not a big fan of these performances. Whatever "accent" or "edgy pronunciation" she is doing during SB just sounds weird and ridiculous...
And I think she needs to work on her cardio, like she jumps around for 3 seconds and her voice immediately gets weaker. Or maybe work with a better vocal coach. But I wasn't impressed by her singing at all... and then autotune? Nah, I didnt like it.
I mean I see improvement and she actually tried to connect with the audience, but still it's not really that good imo.

I suspect she was a bit a drunk. Probably explains the weird pronunciation.

I'm also not a fan even dislike it
