Unpopular Opinion: I hate parties, I hate partying, even when I know a lot of people or if I'm with my friends at a party, I would still rather go home. Same. I hate dressing up. I hate dancing. Convos suck. I don't like that my friend's parties always start late and end late (we're Mexican). I'm also not comfortable just sitting or standing alone at a party. It's loud. There's literally nothing good about parties. Except maybe the food. I sound so anti social 😃

Maybe a birthday of a good friend is nice but when I don't know a lot of people it's awkward. I'm not good in starting small talk with a stranger. When I was a teenager I didn't go to parties and now I think: Did I miss something about that? But indeed standing or sitting alone is weird to me. Also I don't like to dance with other people. I'm stiff xD

^^ I liked parties as a child.
The kind of parties where all neighbourhood kids are invited, cut cake, and play games especially musical chairs. 😂
My birthday always fell during winter break and I would celebrate it in my hometown at grandma’s place with all cousins and a few friends. My childhood friend without fail gave me the same gift every year. A pencil box 😆
Do any of you have such memories?

^ My mom was actually pretty good at making her own cakes. Store bought cakes were too expensive for us, so my mom would usually make her own and design it as one of our favorite cartoon characters or whatever. She had done some really good ones in the past - for me, she made Minnie Mouse and Arthur the Aardvark, for my brother she once made a Star Wars cake that had frosting shaped like the Death Star and I think she put some of his action figures on it. We have pictures of them in our family photo albums.
I remember once too when my brother had a birthday party and my parents created games for him and his friends to play. Maybe it was just that time, it was the '90s, and birthday parties (especially for children) back then were nowhere near as extravagant as they are today. My parents made decent money, but maybe they did not see the point in spending it on kids' birthday parties or simply couldn't afford it. So they made up games for us to play like dropping clothespins into a jar from a tall height to see how many you could get in the jar, the classic walking with a (plastic) egg on a spoon without dropping it, pin the tail on the donkey (except my dad drew a picture of this hideous looking clown instead of a donkey lmao that clown still gives me creeps to this day!). Perhaps the low-keyness of it all is what made those memories even more special. It's kinda pure how my parents tried their best to make things fun for us like that without a lot of money.

^^ Ditto.
We don’t buy store brought cake as well, even today though they are pretty cheap here. Because we bake eggless cakes.
My mom’s aunt, who is sadly no more would bake cake for us, she was an expert. My grandma would bake too. She still does, if it’s someone’s birthday in another city, she still bakes a cake 😂 Even the food is always home cooked.
I don’t see the point of expensive parties for small kids especially.
I think 90s was the best era to grow up. We have experiences that today’s kids will never do.

The thing is that a real life, a real experience, a real friends, a real parties and etc. are way more better than a virtual ones. I truly miss those days when for example the most popular mobile phones were like Nokia 00, Sony Ericsson let's say T610 (yeah, those two parts of a trademark were meant to be together) and best damn Motorola ones. But it's already a totally another thread...

Do kids still do that anymore?

I guess that most of the kids nowadays have their sleepovers on the WEB tho But there are usually exist exceptions of this tendency

I'm actually the type of person who can't get stuck with just one username because I always come up with different usernames that I like and would like to use. I kinda want to change my username here, but people already know me with alloutofmycontrol so.... lol
