A 8 seconds of song (RAW) just leaked. It sounds like pre-Let Go song. I can't even hear the melody well because it's very bad quality. yeah, it's very hard to tell what she's singing. Strange snippet lol |

I'm surprised at the amount of leaks tbh, I think her new single may be coming sooner than we think 😍 You think? Because of the leaks? I don't know, I don't see her releasing a new song anytime soon, the European tour must've been finished for a little time before she will promote something else I think. The leaks are teasing me 🤣 I would hope that after the tour the hype isn't going to stop, I would love if she releases something for us |

I didn't realize Avril wasn't a writer on Bright (or at least, on the Unreleased Songs thread -whoever made that btw you did an amazing job I can't believe all the work that must've gone into it). I/we always figured she didn't include it on HAW because she thought it would make the album more of a downer (although I think it's an uplifting song), but if she didn't contribute to the writing then it makes sense why she didn't include it. It definitely sounds/feels like "her" work though. But Lights Out, which I thought she didn't write on, is listed as her being a co-writer. I can't imagine, then, what reason she could've possibly had not to put it on HAW because even if it doesn't fit the theme she was going for (aside from IMO being better than BW/LMI) it at least really shows her vocal chops. Also, I don't dislike BW/LMI, they're fun to listen to when I'm in the mood, but I would've preferred Lights Out to replace one of them.
So now I'm wondering: if she won't include songs on an album that she hasn't contributed writing to, aside from covers, then why does she even record them or entertain the thought of them?

That is a really interesting point. It’s pretty well known that Avril writes all her own music and doesn’t consider outside work for her albums, however it’s worth noting HAW is the only album this happened with. I could be completely wrong on this but I think BMG can sign songwriters in addition to artists, so my theory is that it was possibly written into Avril’s contract that she had to purchase/record at least a certain number of songs from the songwriters BMG employs, even if she wasn’t planning to ultimately put them on the album. It could be why they got leaked since it’s clear they weren’t going to be used for anything. But like I said, I could be hugely wrong on that.

Dont know who wrote Bright, Lights Out etc. but maybe the person didnt want to give Avril writing credits cause Avril didnt contribute to the song. But it's very much Avril's brand and image to "write her own songs" (no matter how small her contribution might have been in reality). Also Avril is very proud and stubborn when it comes to having an influence on her songs. So I doubt she would ever put a song on an album where she has no writing credits.
I think sometimes singers also record some songs, knowing they wont release them, just to see which direction the music is going, what fits their voices, what to present to the label and the song writers to work on etc.

So either it was never intended to be on HAW and I agree with this: I think sometimes singers also record some songs, knowing they wont release them, just to see which direction the music is going, what fits their voices, what to present to the label and the song writers to work on etc. or they decided to scrap it when they realized that they could not "steal" the song without being noticed because there were old live performances of it on Youtube where the singer says she wrote it herself (and even if they managed to take them off, someone having the original footage could have uploaded them again causing a way worse controversy). |

This is kinda crazy to think about, that Avril would steal a song.  I just think somehow maybe it happen just for fun, or they make her to buy it, for the album. Or they just make her to record it and then make some another song, that was in similar way, to fit the album. I am sure she have sooo many unrealeased music. |

I agree that singers sometimes record songs they won’t release. For instance, Avril worked with Lauren for HAW, so maybe Lauren helped her decide what direction to take by recording “I Want What I Want”, while having some fun.

I doubt it. I think HAW was always going to be the lead since it’s the song she wrote first. Isn't supposed "Warrior" to be the first single? She even had the whole concept and photoshoot before HAW popped into the narrative, isn't it? I remembered she teased us a lot with "Warrior". |
