I wish she would do a different surprise song each show. Thatβd be more than enough to keep fans happy. Thats so true and it would be so simple.

I hope she sings more than the usual 14-16 songs, and don't waste too much time with those unnecessary long intros

I hope she sings more than the usual 14-16 songs, and don't waste too much time with those unnecessary long intros I don't know if I got it wrong, but did she say on the podcast that the concert is expected to last 90 minutes? If so, that's 30 minutes more than her usual, absurdly short, 60-minute concert. It's kind of weird because she also said she aims to perform songs that are not on the Greatest Hits (like Breakaway and a cover), but in the Instagram post, she said she couldn't have a GH tour without a Greatest Hits album, so I immediately thought about the tracklist being also the setlist of the concerts. By the way, the Greatest Hits album will be 1 hour and 17 minutes long. If she adds Breakaway + cover it would easy reach 1h30min.

Yeah Iβm pretty sure she once said her longest setlist was 2 hours, referring to BST, but it was actually 90 minutes. She has never played a tour show longer than 90 minutes.

Breakaway and KHO had only 1 min long at HAW Tour. Funny cause the video intros were never cut

I wish she would do a different surprise song each show. Thatβd be more than enough to keep fans happy. That was probably the best thing about the AL Tour. I still revisit that video of her singing Things I'll Never Say from time to time. I think it sounds great in her "new" voice:

Funny cause the video intros were never cut Since she only sings one minute of some songs and extends others to five or almost six minutes (probably because these are the ones she's more confident with or thinks the audience will know), she could invest more in medleys. It's a shame that her setlists are so unorganized. No medleys, no surprise songs, no deep cuts, NO to some basic things...

Yeah I don't know why she hasn't experimented more with medleys especially as her catalog has gotten bigger and she insists on only playing the hits, eventually some songs are going to have to get cut, so medleys are a nice compromise to keep songs without taking up too much time. It's not even like she'd really have to arrange them if it was too difficult for her to think of how they'd musically fit together, her musical director definitely could help.
I miss when she changed up Losing Grip during TBDTour, that was really unexpected how she made it a more acoustic arrangement and it brought new life to an old song she had sung thousands of times. There's some songs that can never be touched and should be performed as they are, but she could definitely get away with experimenting with some others. If she's going to insist on singing the same songs every tour she could at least try fresh arrangements. I don't know how she's just not bored to tears playing the same thing for 20+ years. Britney wrote in her book that during her Vegas residency she was desperate to remix some of her old songs but they wouldn't let her and she was forced to sing them the same way every night for years, and she was just bored and so were the fans.

Yes, besides medleys and surprises, rearrangements add a nice touch. Many artists incorporate them into their performances. She has a somewhat limited vision for her tours. There was a slight change with LS, incorporating more stage devices and singing differents songs for the European leg, as well as having people on stage with her or interacting with the crowd. However, that was the extent of it. Now, she not only needs to maintain that but also to introduce new elements, especially to revamp the setlist.

There's one thing that Avril and her band do since 2007 which I'm not a big fan of. They are attached to studio versions, sometimes playing the original versions as a backing track, and sometimes its louder than the own live instruments. During Let Go and Under My Skin eras, Avril and her former band weren't so commited to replicate the exact same version of the studio albums and this is one of the reasons why I think TTSMU and Bonez were so magical, especially Bonez. I'm not a big fan of mashups for live pop rock shows, especially in Avril's case - cause she doesn't have a lot of top 10 hits that oblishes her to play them every single tour. It's not like she nedeed to include Don't Tell Me, He Wasn't or HTNGU on every tour. I liked that she finally DTM and HW let go for once on the last tour. I'd cut Smile of that setlist too. Love Sux was a great opportunity to bring back a pop punk song from TBDT to live concerts, for example. A shame that she didn't perform half of the album in these 2 years, considering that it has less than 40 minutes and the songs are super short.
