For DAY 4, I decided to take us back to GL era, with Avril decorating Christmas cookies! I always find myself thinking of this little video when Christmas time comes around. It's just so simple, cute, cozy - just Christmassy vibes. 😁🎄 Also, I'm pretty sure this video is the origin of a meme similar to this one below, but I couldn't find the original so I recreated it real quick.

DAY 5! Today I want to share with you guys this performance of Everything Back But You. The energy of this song always makes me think of a pop punk Christmas, especially when it performed live. Having fun 😁

Lol, that choreography. I always wondered who or what gave her the inspiration to have all these choreographies during TBDT era... especially for songs like EBBY which are sooo far away from being dance-able

I know a lot of fans hated the dancing during TBDT and sure she’s not great at it, but I give her credit for trying something new and experimenting. If there was any album to try it on, it was that one. Idk why it gets so much hate, she abandoned it after that era so it was clearly just a fun experiment and nothing more. I don’t think anything particularly inspired it, I think she just wanted to try it because it fit the kind of music she was doing. Maybe she was bored of her current stage moves and just wanted to do something new and different. The choreography is awkward for sure but I think they were trying to give her something she could realistically do given her skill set while also still being able to sing at the same time.

[It's early but here it's the 6th already]
For today - 6TH DECEMBER - you are all invited to take a German class with Avril.
HEY HEY YOU YOU Ich mag deine Freundin nicht NO WAY NO WAY Ich glaub du brauchst ne neue HEY HEY YOU YOU Ich könnte deine Freundin sein
HEY HEY YOU YOU Ich weiß, dass du mich gern hast NO WAY NO WAY Es ist kein Geheimnis HEY HEY YOU YOU Ich könnte deine Freundin sein
As we probably all know, Avril recorded Girlfriend in different languages (the chorus). One of the languages was German. I read a lot of comments on Youtube making fun of how she sings in Spanish and French etc. but personally I think her German version is fine! This might be cause one of her dancers/choreographers at that time was German and she could teach Avril a good pronunciation.
As I am German, I literally played the German version to all of my friends and everyone who has ever spoken to me about Avril. It's the GF version I keep on my Spotify and my 2nd favourite version of Girlfriend (best one is in Mandarin imo).
ENJOY!

The two languages seem to be similar, at least aurally.

A lot of Dutch people seem to understand German though (can Dutch people confirm this?). But reading basic signs or short texts in dutch is kind of easy for many Germans and I guess it's really easy to learn the language.

As a german native speaker I can guess some dutch words when I read them (for example on vacation in the supermarket) because I think some of them are quite similar to german words or even german dialect and/or a mixture of german and english. However I don't understand Dutch people talking because it's just too fast for my brain to extract single words and put them together to phrases that make sense 😅 That fits to what Jinkxx said, so I guess it's very similar for both german and dutch people. 😄

I remember being so happy when I discovered this German version of GF. 10-year-old me thought it was the coolest thing to have my new favourite artist sing in my native language. Though for a while, I was unsure if it really was Avril singing because her German just sounded too good; I thought maybe a German native speaker had imitated her voice or something, lol. I can hear by now that her German isn't absolutely perfect, but it's pretty damn close. Especially the line "es ist kein Geheimnis" ("it's not a secret") sounds incredibly good. She really did an outstanding job with this version!

Happy 7th December Your gift from me today is the video for Don’t Tell Me - widely regarded (by me…..) as her best video, best hair, best outfit and a solid top 5 song. Make sure you watch to the end to enjoy Avril bizarrely floating up into mid air!
