Feeling stressed. We've had a new "upgraded" till system installed at work and it's just a headache. There was nothing wrong with the old till system. It almost feels like the management is conspiring against it's own staff implementing such an impractical overly complicated till system. I'm dreading going back and having to deal with it.

Feeling stressed. We've had a new "upgraded" till system installed at work and it's just a headache. There was nothing wrong with the old till system. It almost feels like the management is conspiring against it's own staff implementing such an impractical overly complicated till system. I'm dreading going back and having to deal with it. I'm so sorry to hear this. I keep hearing this over and over, Ben. A friend has been given a ton of extra responsibility at work. But no raise. It's a huge promotion with no benefits. They should offer training for the new till. Is there anyone at work you can ask to help you and explain how it works?

Once they know how to use it they will train me how to use it and then my responsibilities will be reinstated. In fact my responsibilities will be increased. In the meantime I can't perform hardly any of the tasks I used to do because I am waiting to be reinstated my responsibilities on the till. As a result the paid staff have to do more work and are under more pressure and are understandably stressing out. It's such a stressful job for the paid staff anyway which is why we have such high staff turnover. There has been three different managers since I have been there. The current manager is a very strong woman and good at her job but I just feel like the company is trying to push her over the edge implementing such a stupid computer system. It's just a really uncomfortable work environment at the moment. It is a new paperless till system that runs on portable handheld computers rather than filling in forms by hand. The handheld computers run out of battery power and can be stolen and are cumbersome to carry around and use which is why they are worse in my opinion. How am I supposed to carry around a portable handheld computer and operate the till. It just hasn't been thought out properly and it is blindingly obvious that it hasn't been thought out properly. Plus the new till is really hard to use and overly complicated. The old till system was very straight forward and I have been making mistakes. Every time I make a mistake on the till I have to call a member of paid staff over to correct the mistake. Before I would have had the authority to correct my own mistakes. Sometimes the till doesn't print off receipts whereas before it used to do that automatically and sometimes cash and card payments become confused which is a total nightmare when trying to take payments. I just feel like taking a baseball bat to the head of whoever decided to "upgrade" the till system.

This sounds like a terrible nightmare. I'm sorry you're stuck with this company. I'm sure finding another job would be very hard right now. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Ben.

The manager and the area manager seem optimistic that it will work eventually and I take some comfort in that. The company must know what it is doing.
