Excuse me for my question, I have never used Photoshop in my life, but why is that? Why do you think that once one takes in hand Photoshop, they can't go back to traditional methods? It's alright I have never used it too, just a similar program and I admit that when I would create things that I liked I couldn't stop using it. Maybe because this is something new/new technology and this idea of creating something with a "program" is pleasant as it can be much more technical/challenging as your 'only pen' is a computer mouse. Thank you very much for the explanation! I never understood why so many people that are fond of drawing, like using Photoshop so much and seem to be kind of reluctant to go back to traditional methods of drawing. I think you're right. It might have something to do with the fact that it is something relatively new in technology and the fact that once you make something you like while using it, you just can't stop. I might as well ty it someday to se what it's like to use.

helloheartache I think most people prefer photoshop than traditional methods because it's easier to create things. You can basically create ANYTHING with just one single pen. While with the traditional method you need many tools and it's often a struggle to get it right. Plus, on photoshop you can just erase things. Why photoshop as a program? Well, I guess it's just very popular and it has more options than other programs do.

Also, what is so special about Photoshop that makes so many people prefer it and choose it to tradititional methods of drawing, apart from the fact that for some it is easy to use? Not everybody "abandons" the traditional methods, for me it's just that I have my laptop with me to school, so it is far easier for me than carrying all the tools needed. While doing sort of, let's call them special effects, is hard to do with your own hands it feels easier with a picture editing software. As for PS itself, like Monet said, the Adobe software is very popular. I guess that is a big part of so many people using it.

^ yeah, people use PS because that's the big thing around..Adobe is pretty much the monsanto of anything involving digital art. But! I also really like Paint tool sai.It should get more recognition I think. It's usually popular among Manga people but I just love how clean the lines are. and it's way more light than PS. it never runs slow or crashes.+ it opens quickly! It does the job just as good. The main reason I use digital more than traditional is because you can erase as many times as you want. Honestly it's pretty much the only advantage. Ps effects are just cherrys on top of the cake. It's just details. And then there's always the fact that you just get used to the way you do stuff and carry on that way. + scanning takes soooo long to do anyway. I'm never brave enough to go out of my way to plug in the printer and scan papers. Soooo..longg..... EDIT: last things i scanned are from... last year..: img07.deviantart.net/84eb/i/2015/270/1/1/cours_de_creativite___vetements_by_sophieroy-d8bs5hz.jpg

So, we have to do a sketch diary as I said before. Today I was a bit too bored for my own good and thought I'd digitalize some of the things I put in it. The idea behind this sketch book is quite simple: show what's on your mind. The first one is quite important to me. The idea came during a class. We had to capture movements in a picture and listened to music while a model was moving quite slowly so we could catch the movement. The song we listened to was Borders by M.I.A. and it was shortly after Paris attacks. So when I came home I felt like doing this kind of collage. It's on A4 paper, both sides used so actually A3. I glued on black carton on both ends, so it can be closed and opened like a book. When closed you see bars and the sign"borders" (picture #1), when you open the left side it says things like "politics", "identities" and so on (taken from M.I.A.'s lyrics) and on the right side it always repeats the question "what's up with that?" In the middle there's this X sprinkled with red chinese ink, representing blood. Yes, I feel quite strongly about what's happening right now. I'm also quite interested in skulls lately, not what they stand for but more the structure that's between bone and flesh. So I do studies, like this one: Further more I tried to do some collage that shows flesh (the human) and the inner self right underneath it. Hard to explain, really. It's quite personal, too. Maybe something like displaying the inner deamon. So I did this drawing of a girl and when you fold back the paper it reveals: Yeah, this book shows a lot of me to be honest. But there's lighter stuff, too, things I just do and don't really think about: At the end of the semester I'll get a mark and I'm looking forward to this actually. I hope my lecturer won't advise me to see a doctor.

So a few days ago, I decided to "experiment" a little and try something new, by trying to draw my first mangas. The last one is quite Evard Munch's Scream:
May I ask how you start off a drawing? I may be able to give you some advice on face proportion, only if you like of course. There are tricks that help and they are not that hard to do.

Maybe next year I'll start to teach myself to draw. I don't entirely suck at dessin.
