My Happy Ending was obviously the bigger hit between the two, though what would've happened if the singles would've switched places? Would Don't Tell Me of been a bigger hit riding a bit off of My Happy Ending's success? Or do you believe My Happy Ending wouldn't of fared well as the lead?

My Happy Ending would've most likely peaked higher and DTM would've had more success riding MHE's wave. The real question is what would've things looked like if Daydream was chosen as the lead single?

It would have been a bigger hit and UMS would have sold a lot more.

I believe that if MHE was chosen as the lead single, it would have even bigger success than it had as the second single. I think that if they really did choose MHE as the lead single of UMS back then, it wouldn't be just successful, but "massive". And UMS would have sold a lot more copies both worldwide and in the US.

I think that it would have been just as huge of a hit, if not even bigger. DTM probably would have done about the same or slightly better but this is mainly because I think MHE is the more radio-friendly of the 2 (even though I personally like DTM as a song more).

I think nobody's home was a bigger hit than my happy ending It definitely wasn't. MHE peaked at #9 in the US, while NH didn't even enter the top 40. It might be a fan favorite song, so it's a "hit" in that regard, but charts and sales wise, MHE was the big hit of UMS.

I think in music industry is a mechanic that puts a better single in second place in chronological order.
For example: 1989 (shake it off, Blank space), emotion (i really like you, run away with me).

Along with Complicated and Girlfriend, My Happy Ending is the only single that my non Avril fan friends tend to remember and appreciate... so I believe it would have been even more successful than what it already was. That's all.

That's all. Same! My boyfriend always said he only knew MHE was from Avril and other songs he couldn't remember. After I let him listem to some of them he said: Oh that's Avril? So yes I also think MHE was more succesful!

I understand why they went with DTM first since it sounded more like her 1st album and since she was so successful she could have released almost anything as the first single and it probably would have done ok. Then they saved the obvious big hit for the second single. I always wonder what would have happened if she had kept Daydream though, becuase that had hit single written all over it for me.

I think both the single and the album would have done much better. Most of my friends know that song-unlike Don't Tell Me. I would have liked Daydream as a proper track, if not a single, thoug

I disagree. The era might have run the risk of peaking too soon. ums had saw success when it was released due to the existing fans and saw somewhat consistent sales what with the success of its second single. dtm was a nice bridge from Losing Grip to MHE and in the long run strengthened her "girl empowerment" angle.
