^ I guess I haven't kept up with the state of the art. I only understood about half of what he said. And, only cared about half of that. Nice! I would have gone with the 212 for an extra ~$5. But heck, any aftermarket cooler must be better than the one AMD gave you. I was going to get a 212 Evo until my friend told me how hard it was to install his. He said it took 2 people half an hour to install it.. he was probably exaggerating but it seems 212s are a bit of a pain to install. Plus the T4 was cheaper and nearly as effective. I remembered this conversation when I got a pop-up message that said "CPU Fan Speed 0 RPM". I shut it down and let cool off. When I restarted it, it seemed to be OK. Anyway. I decided, since I've always had a problem with overheating, I wouldn't wait for my stock fan to fail completely. For the last four years, I've been running AMD's first eight core processor. The FX-8120 operating at the default speed of 3.1 Ghz. The only time I had an overheating problem was when I used Microsoft Movie Maker. And then, only when performing the final step, which is converting the project, from the software's native format, to a useful format, such as mp4. If that process took over three minutes, I'd get a message that I had exceeded 65C. So, instead of addressing the problem, I did that part on my laptop. I did some research and decided on the CoolerMaster Hyper 212-X. Reviews seemed to indicate it was one or two degrees cooler than the EVO. Just my luck, newegg had it on special for $35. And, CoolerMaster had a mail in rebate for $15. Final price $20. Your friend wasn't exaggerating. Half an hour sounds about right. The instructions are terrible. It took me about fifteen minutes to understand what had to be done and about ten minutes to actually do it. The results were dramatic. When running the CPU at 100%, the temp never exceeded 49C. I had never considered overclocking it. Since it seemed as though I had a lot of headroom, I gave the ASUS automatic OC function a shot. That resulted in a clock speed of 3.9 Ghz and never went over 59C, as shown below.

Sorry T1_Spork. It was me that nominated you for the spammer award. Truth is, I wish I knew more about computers. I don't know why my last computer died. I think it overheated. The fan started to make a lot of noise and then it died. I wasn't sure if it was too dirty, it was a virus or the computer was grinding to a halt from it being too clogged up with no spare memory. Still don't know how to clear out all the crap in my C drive that is slowing up my current computer and doing exactly the same thing except this time I have a better fan. Friend of mine has the same problem. Would perhaps reboot it and reinstall the operating system but got no disks because it's second hand. Fuck knows, but thanks for the posts I'm too stupid to understand.

Okay, since I already have written about it here, and It's related to Avril, because she is my inspiration, and it's definitely computing related, not necessarily general though, well, I just finally ran and tested SDRAM initialization process. After lying dormant about two months, it finally got checked, compiled and tested! And it does its work. The screenshot is below. Now when SDRAM is up, everything is open for the great things - making our Operating System running on this machine! And although, this success is an extremely little piece of overall collection of successes needed to have something real to show, it was really a quite complex one and having special significance. It's SDRAM after all.

Just doubled the size of the boot drive, on my desktop. Found this on sale for $78. ADATA Ultimate SU800 256GB 3D NAND 2.5 Inch SATA-III Internal Solid State Drive It's noticeably faster than my old ssd. I'm not sure but, I think my old one was beginning to fail. I've been having the occasional random BSOD. I recently noticed Windows 10 has been defragging it weekly for the last two years. That's not good for an ssd. I originally had Windows 7 on this drive and was sure to prevent it from being defragged on the recommended schedule. When I upgraded to W10, I neglected to check this setting.

Covfefe Coffee Lake was recently released with 6 core/12 thread i7s, 6 core/6 thread i5s, and 4 core/4 thread i3s. This is what happens when competition occurs π I'm an AMD fanboy, but if I were building a PC now I would probably go for one of the new i5 chips. The 8400 in particular looks like the best in price-to-performance π
