My friend's boss just installed a £500 video card in her work computer because she "needed two screens". She's a bookkeeper. There's some irony in there somewhere.

I wonder if she was the victim of a slick sales person. A friend of a friend of mine was conned into believing he needed a $100 HDMI cable.

My firmware, efify, now is able to read SD cards. Can't wait for it being able to draw on an HDMI display, so I can put there Avril. HDMI will be s00n, now time for more hardcore but not as visually intensive things.

Always secure your data, especially if it contains information pertaining to national security.

Kind of niche, but does anyone know anything about HDMI audio extractors? Is there any reason to spend more than £20 on one?

I would say no, if all you care about is the audio extractor function, They all seem to have a TOSLINK output and some kind of L/R analog output. I've seen them as cheap as $12 US. Mine cost $36. In addition to the audio extractor function, it switches three HDMI inputs (for computer, blu ray player and cable box) into split HDMI outputs to go into two flat screens. And, it is operated by a remote control. It affords me the greatest flexibility and greatly simplified the audio connections to my amplifier.

The state of PC building is a fucking train wreck right now. GPU prices are through the roof because of cryptocurrency mining and RAM prices are higher than ever because of price fixing. At my electronics store the entire GPU section is empty, save for a few overpriced low-end cards ($200 GTX 1050/RX 560? really?). There's no reason why we should be paying 2x-3x MSRP for a GTX 1070 or smth and more on our RAM than our CPU. I got everything I need for now but I feel bad for those who were looking to build a PC this year. You know it's bad when prebuilts offer a better value than building.
The new Raven Ridge APUS, the 2200G and 2400G, offer a good compromise if you are willing to live without a GPU, as the integrated graphics are powerful enough for most games. Still gotta deal with shitty RAM prices tho, especially since APUs really need faster RAM.

www.blog.google/products/chrome/saying-goodbye-flash-chrome/For 20 years, Flash has helped shape the way that you play games, watch videos and run applications on the web. But over the last few years, Flash has become less common. Three years ago, 80 percent of desktop Chrome users visited a site with Flash each day. Today usage is only 17 percent and continues to decline. What you people use instead of Flash Player?

What you people use instead of Flash Player? A combination of HTML5, CSS3 and javascript will replace flash. There is a good chance that if you delete Flash right now, you will never miss it.

I recently bought two laptops for $10 each. One was a Dell E6420. The other a ASUS X55C. Both needed power supplies. I had them on hand. I worked on the Dell first. It had a shattered screen and wouldn't fully boot. It would get far enough along I could tell it had Windows 10 installed. I found a replacement screen on ebay for $24. It was the easiest screen replacement I'd ever done on a laptop. Only four screws and one connector. I replaced the hard drive with a $20 128 gig ADATA SX850 solid state drive and did a clean Windows 10 install. It booted right up and activated immediately. It had two 2 gig sticks of ddr 3 ram. I had a 4 gig stick from a unit I had scrapped. It tested good. So, I found another one exactly like, on Amazon, for $14. Now, it has 8 gig. The only thing I didn't like about it was, it didn't have any USB 3.0 ports. When shopping for the screen, I stumbled on a device, with 2 USB 3.0 ports that plugs into the DVD drive bay, for $15. So, for $83 I have a pretty sweet laptop. It boots in 30 seconds and shuts down in 4. The only problem with the ASUS was, the keyboard was missing about half the keys. Replaced it for $14. It worked pretty good. But, I knew it would benefit greatly with an upgrade to a solid state drive. I replaced the hard drive with a $17 128 gig Silicon Power A55 drive and did a clean Windows 10 install. Again, it booted right up and activated Windows immediately. It's blazing fast. Boots in 4 seconds. The crazy thing is, it has only a dual core processor and the same clock speed as the Dell, which has a quad core. And, it has only half the ram as the dell. Both are ddr 3. The ASUS is slightly newer than the Dell. I can only guess that it being a newer generation processor accounts for the difference. All in all, a great deal for a $41 investment. I sold it for $160.

Hi cleverer-people-than-me. I need a new laptop. I barely use my laptop but when I do it’s to play the Sims 3. So I need a cheap as possible laptop that can run the sims 3. Problem is the sims 3 specs mean absolutely nothing to my non-computery brain and the fact it ran on my previous laptop was pure luck. Any recommendations?

Almost any computer that is capable of running Windows 10 well, should be able to run Sims 3. Minimum requirements for Windows 10 is a 1 GHz processor. I recommend 2 GHz with a minimum of 2 cores. 4 would be better. Minimum memory for Windows 10 is 2 gig. I recommend 4. If you are shopping online, feel free to send me links to any computers you are considering, for review.
