I'm doing Windows updates on a laptop I gave away almost four years ago. My buddy didn't need it anymore. So, he gave it back. He apparently didn't use it a lot, because none of the updates, that were supposed to be automatic, ever happened. It's taking forever. It would have been much quicker to do a clean install.

I cleaned the laptop of my uncle's stepkids... they bought it last spring, nothing special. But they never did a single update, Windows 10 wasn’t installed completely, anti virus long past trial time... it was a wild ride. 2 whole days just to set the OS up correctly and another to clean that thing. Would have loved to clean install it but I didn’t know what they still need, not even where they really save their stuff and they didn’t have any serial numbers, activation codes etc. Frustrating! (e. g. office was installed twice and I couldn’t savely get rid of one without possibly busting it entirely, since they didn’t have any activation codes or anything I couldn’t just uninstall it and do it fresh. I mean I usually have fun doing maintenance, but that was not one of those times. ——————————————— About to study a bit Japanese, got a meeting at my usual study time.

trying to find the motivation and add like another half page to a paper in order to follow with the conclusion and finish this off by Wednesday to start the next one... but damn motivation is something which is rare to find these days.

I mean I usually have fun doing maintenance, but that was not one of those times. Well then, You're really going to wish you knew then, what I'm going to tell you now. You don't need to know the activation code to do a clean install of Windows 10. Start the installation and when you get to where you are supposed to enter the code, just click where it says "I don't have an activation code". After the installation is complete, the computer will connect with a Microsoft activation server and Windows will automatically be reactivated. Trust me. I've done it hundreds of times. This presumes Windows was installed legally originally and is not a bootleg copy. As for Microsoft Office, it is easy to find the activation code for that. Download and run Belarc Advisor. It's free and it will develop a profile containing virtually all the information you might ever need to know about the computer. It will display all the information in your browser. Save this page. It is an html file that can be opened with any browser. It will include Information about all the hardware and software, in the device, including model numbers, part numbers, software serial numbers, activation codes, security information, network information and much more. Download and run it on your own computer and you will see what I mean. I've been using it for many years.

I will run into situations like this again, I know it so I‘ll be better prepared then. So I still appreciate those tips more than you think!

Early finish from work. Sitting in my back yard enjoying the peace and weather with a cold beer. Got the day off for my birthday tomorrow so life is good for now.

Got a rough idea of what was going on. The film after that by the same director called Prisoner was quite good.
