I was a little surprised to hear her say that she's only half way through her treatment. I thought she would have been more further along than that.

A Christmas album would be a studio album, but it would be her 6th studio album; we wouldn't refer to it as album 6. Christmas albums don't have several singles, heavy promo, and headlining tours. And a greatest hits album wouldn't be a studio album at all; it's a complication album. I'm not aware of any instances in which an artist has released a greatest hits album to fulfill their contract for a studio album, or how greatest hits album would suffice in such a situation. I'm sure it's been done and it's very possible, but a greatest hits album doesn't classify as a studio album.

I don't think the GYWYL video was really a passion project. It seemed like she did it because she promised it and she knew that fans were disappointed when the video didn't come, so she felt she needed to fulfill her promise. And a Christmas album wouldn't count as the sixth album.
But I do agree that a Christmas could very well come before the sixth album. She does seem to be scratching off items on her bucket list and doing things that she has wanted to do for a long time. Hopefully she will give details about her upcoming plane during the GMA interview.

Part of the reason that GL didn't do as well as the first 3 albums are the single choices. The singles weren't bad songs, but they poorly represented the entire album. All of the GL singles, which were produced by Max Martin, were very pop and were only about a ¼ of the album. The other ¾ of GL were different. And with digital stores (and streaming services) being the main way that people get there music, anyone can preview all the tracks before purchasing.
It's not like in the early and mid-2000s when the first 3 albums came out and you had to buy a cd at a store and listen to it after buying it (with the exception of those cd scanners/preview-players in certain stores). Even if all three singles were equally promoted and all promoted well, that wouldn't change that GL was an album with an EP of really-pop songs thrown into it. If the singles made people want to buy the album, just by previewing the tracks, they could be turned off because it's not what they were expecting.

I think the first performance she gave of WTH at Dick Clark is the best one. Her performance of GF there was also great. I agree. Both the WTH performance and the GF performance were good. And even though there is a backing track during the WTH performance, Avril's lead vocals can be clearly heard and she sounded really good - even on the high notes. She did a descent job singing the high notes in the Today Show performance as well.

It's good that the land of the free has made one more step closer to equality. Congrats to the LGBT community for finally getting the benefits of marriage.

If I were to recreate an era, I would choose the UMS era. I love the UMS album and era, but I think the singles were poorly chosen. I would MHE the lead single, as I think that it would have made a better lead single than DTM. I would make Take Me Away the second single. I would make either How Does It Feel or Slipped Away as the third single. UMS didn't have a ballad as a single, so if I were to recreate the UMS era, it would definitely need one; I think both songs would make a good radio single and couldn't choose between them. I would make Freak Out the fourth single. Fall To Pieces was kind of the fifth single for UMS (it was released as the fourth single in the U.S. while He Wasn't was released everywhere else). I would make FTP the fifth single and wouldn't cancel the video shoot (lol).
Also, I would put Daydream and Take It on the special edition of UMS as bonus tracks; and possibly add some other unreleased songs as well. I would add HDIF to the tour set list (since it's the only song from that era that has never been played live). I would also release the Budokan DVD worldwide because it was unfair for only Japan to get the release.
Avril started dying her hair blonde maybe halfway through the era. I would keep Avril's hair as it was in the UMS album photoshoot for longer. I really liked her darker hair with black lowlights. I feel like she didn't keep this look/style around for very long. She cut it herself during your and also dyed it blonde during tour. Although I think she looked good, I don't think her blonde hair went well with the UMS era; it seemed to clash, however, the fact that she started dying her hair blonde during the UMS era, it lessened the suddenness of her major transitions from UMS to TBDT.

The beginning of this interview touches base on the writing of LG. It doesn't really go in depth, but it is mentioned.

To Apple, Love Taylor
I write this to explain why I’ll be holding back my album, 1989, from the new streaming service, Apple Music. I feel this deserves an explanation because Apple has been and will continue to be one of my best partners in selling music and creating ways for me to connect with my fans. I respect the company and the truly ingenious minds that have created a legacy based on innovation and pushing the right boundaries.
I’m sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service. I’m not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company.
This is not about me. Thankfully I am on my fifth album and can support myself, my band, crew, and entire management team by playing live shows. This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success. This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt. This is about the producer who works tirelessly to innovate and create, just like the innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their field…but will not get paid for a quarter of a year’s worth of plays on his or her songs.
These are not the complaints of a spoiled, petulant child. These are the echoed sentiments of every artist, writer and producer in my social circles who are afraid to speak up publicly because we admire and respect Apple so much. We simply do not respect this particular call.
I realize that Apple is working towards a goal of paid streaming. I think that is beautiful progress. We know how astronomically successful Apple has been and we know that this incredible company has the money to pay artists, writers and producers for the 3 month trial period… even if it is free for the fans trying it out.
Three months is a long time to go unpaid, and it is unfair to ask anyone to work for nothing. I say this with love, reverence, and admiration for everything else Apple has done. I hope that soon I can join them in the progression towards a streaming model that seems fair to those who create this music. I think this could be the platform that gets it right.
But I say to Apple with all due respect, it’s not too late to change this policy and change the minds of those in the music industry who will be deeply and gravely affected by this. We don’t ask you for free iPhones. Please don’t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation.

| | Apple Reverses Policy After Taylor Swift Open Letter
Apple senior executive Eddy Cue announced on Twitter that Apple Music will pay artists during the service’s free, three-month trial period. The reversal of policy comes one day after Taylor Swift wrote an indictment of Apple Music on Tumblr titled “Dear Apple, Love Taylor.”
“We hear you @taylorswift13 and indie artists,” Cue wrote on Twitter. “Love, Apple.”In an interview with Billboard, Cue said it was Swift’s letter that spurred the company to make its decision. “When I woke up this morning and saw what Taylor had written, it really solidified that we needed a change,” Cue said. “And so that’s why we decide we will now pay artists during the trial period.”
“I am elated and relieved,” Swift wrote on Twitter after the news broke. “Thank you for your words of support today. They listened to us.” |

I seem to remember there was someone who had the full songs of Gone, Candy, and Complete Me, as well as WLYG, and they had plans to release one song per day but some Avril site (not BA, but a foreign Avril site) got greedy and spoiled it or something and all we ever got was WLYG. Does anyone else remember what I'm talking about? But yeah I'm pretty sure the same person who leaked WLYG has the full songs of Gone, Candy, and Complete Me. This is sort of related, but I remember when a site was releasing the GL instrumentals. Either the site was a Venezuelan site or Avril was going to Venezuela for the BST (the country was involved somehow). The site had to stop leaking them, but all of the GL instrumentals got leaked eventually (even though half of them were of distorted quality). I don't remember if that source had any other Avril stuff besides the GL instrumentals. I mean, we haven't had a leak since Breakaway? the 17 demo? The LG b-sides were leaked in high quality last year.
