I don't follow Lauren, but I am quite excited to hear her version of "Sk8er Boi". I'm so glad she finally seems to be getting the recognition she deserves for writing/co-writing all of those hits. She surely poured her heart into those songs as much as anyone else who is credited. There's absolutely nothing wrong with what she's doing.
Regarding writing credits, I've heard a couple of producers say that when they tell an artist to write a song, said artist may come back with just a couple of phrases (no instruments, no melody, literally just a few phrases and maybe a rough idea what the song might be about) or they might come back with an entire recorded draft (lyrics, melody, rhythm, maybe an instrument or two). In both scenarios, the artist would get writing credits.
No one but those who were in the room at the time know how much Avril truly contributed to writing those LG songs (specifically the Matrix songs). But I'm sure if she hadn't contributed at least a decent amount, she would not have gotten writing credits, and the Matrix certainly wouldn't have published that statement even years after working with Avril.
Yes, back in the day, Avril made it sound like she did a lot more than was probably true (imo, it did sometimes sound like she wrote like 90 % of the songs and the Matrix just helped her, rather than the other way round, or it being 50/50). But as others have said already, that's just the way she was marketed. She was one of very, very few pop artists who actually (co-)wrote their own songs; of course the label was going to use that and turn it into part of Avril's image. And then of course she'd go along with that in interviews. And I don't think that's lying either. It's an exaggeration, but esentially it's just for marketing reasons. It's part of business. Same with her skateboarding or being a "rock chick". She's far from a professional skateboarder, but she can skateboard. Her music is also definitely not pure rock, but it does have rock elements.
I also find the whole situation a bit strange because there are clearly a bunch of other people listed as co-writers in the album credits. Did people not read those (if they got a physical copy)? Or is it just me who likes to read album credits thoroughly, and I'm just weird that way?

I love that poster/wallpaper/banner they created for the US shows. Looks really dope!
I also think that (finally) calling it a "Greatest Hits" tour is a good move. Like others have said before, her shows have basically been exactly that for years, they just weren't marketed as such, which obviously led to complaints regarding the setlist. Now, with a greatest hits tour, everyone knows what to expect. No need to hope for her to play some non-singles (which has me crying and laughing at the same time, lol).
This, however, makes me a bit worried regarding a new album in 2024. Like, why would she release a new album, just to go on a greatest hits tour? Then again, even if she went on an AL8 tour instead, the setlist would surely just contain her greatest hits and three or four songs off the new album anyway...
Ikd, I guess it's still possible for her to release AL8 this year. She could release a single before she starts touring, and then maybe one or two more singles while she's on tour. She could still play those even on a greatest hits tour imo. And then, after all the touring, she could release AL8 (which would be fall/winter). 2025 could then be reserved for the AL8 tour. Though I see there's currently a month-long gap between her show in Madrid, Spain and Ottawa, Canada. Maybe she's planning to release AL8 then? Or maybe she'll just use the time to rest before continuing touring. She's really got a busy schedule this year...
Anyway, who knows, things are always so weird with her anyway. I'm just wildly speculating, lol. As always, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what really happens.

Wait, I had no idea the music videos for "Complicated", "He Wasn't", and "Girlfriend" were all directed by the same two people?! And yeah, those three are easily among some of the best music videos out there.

I completely forgot about that documentary! I'd love for "Teenage Nightmare" to be used for this, so it can be officially released. That song is so great!
As for that "*ick" snippet - I initially really disliked it, but now I think the second half of the snippet is actually quite nice. Overall, it doesn't really sound like my cup of tea, though, and that spelling is kind of a pet peeve of mine. There are a few instances where spelling in songs works. This is not one of them. But yeah, all this is just based on a 12-second snippet, so... 🤷♀️
I'm not worried about AL8, though. First, I take everything those leakers say with a grain of salt. Who knows if "*ick" is truly from AL8 sessions. Second, one song doesn't necessarily represent the entire direction of an album. Third, Avril has never released two same-sounding albums in a row. She gets bored of stuff quickly, so I doubt she would, unless it was actually some sort of sister album.
But I do hope AL8 will go in another direction that LS because I've had enough of these upbeat pop-punk songs. I'd love more mid-tempo songs like IAM and "Eyes Wide Shut" for AL8. That would also make these two songs work wonderfully as a transition from LS to AL8. She could also explore what she described in DTLM some more, seeing as, unfortunately, the fears she described in that song ended up coming true.

I don't understand how people think Dumb Blonde is a poorly written song, but find Avalanche to be a gem in her discovery. The first one has actually clever lyrics while the second one is incredibly basic. I can't say much about "Dumb Blonde" as I don't think it's poorly written (I'm actually surprised people apparently think it is?). The reason I'm not a big fan of the song is mainly due to the production being kind of lacking, but that's obviously another thing. As for "Avalanche", imo it's a gem because its overall meaning. It's applicable to so many different situations - anxiety could make you feel like you're running from an avalanche, grief can do the same, stress at work or with friends or family. Everyone can interpret this song in their own way, which I feel is different from most of Avril's other songs that tend to be almost a bit too specific imo. I just often find myself wishing that she'd leave a bit more room for interpretation (WYG is a good example imo - it's never specified whether she's singing about missing an (ex-)partner, a grandparent who passed away, or a friend who moved). There are also some phrases in "Avalanche" that I really like, i.e. "I wish my life would've came with instructions" and "what do you do when the hero needs saving" that are just kind of special imo. She manages to say so much with just these few words; that she feels lost in this life, insecure, doesn't know how to handle certain situations, but she's longing for a clear/simple solution, like some sort of guide or handbook that'll just be like "follow these exact steps to deal with stress/anxiety/grief/a breakup" and take that burden off her shoulders, like she/her music has done for so many other people. I don't get such depth in most of her other songs tbh. In the end, good lyrics are not just about how big of a vocabulary is used, but also about what these words actually mean, at least imo.

Watching / listening to these two performances back to back, first the one from 2004, then the one from 2021, is insane! Her vocals have improved so so so so much.

Day 20! (How is it already day 20???)This is one of my favourite "interviews" ever (if you can even call it that, lol). I love how different it is from most other interviews. Avril seems so genuine, she seems to be having so much fun, and I just find it so funny how she's always like "I like this one better, so it's probably more expensive, but then again, I usually prefer the cheaper stuff, so........"

I have an interesting idea for AL8 promo cycle. Let her be everywhere!... online...on YouTube lol Basically I want her to do every YouTube segment show I've wanted her to do since HAW 😅 Hot ones, vogue questions, architectural digest, vogue looks breakdown, what's in the bag, getting ready - all the vogues, wireds most searched, song association, GQ can't live without And people will be like oh wow she's everywhere and it's the easiest promo ever. Hell yeah, I'd especially love for her to be at this Wired's Most Searched thing!

Happy Day 19, Everyone! Today I would like to share a mash-up of I'm With You x It Was In Me. I really like how the instrumental of I'm With You compliment the emotions in Avril's vocals in It Was In Me, as well as the added chorus in the last part of the mash-up, which I think help amplify the emotions and create a better climax compared to the original It Was In Me. I hope you will enjoy it P.S.: Happy Holidays Everyone 🥳🎉🥂 I totally agree! I also think the bridge sounds fantastic in this mash-up, imo it creates an even better build-up than the original IWIM.

Bahahaha! I always forget just how bad the delay for HAW was. In my memory, AL5 is the one that saw the worst delays, but HAW was actually worse. Sure, she was sick during that time, but even so... No wonder I never remember what year HAW was finally released.

Before today, I had never heard of 'Ren.' So I did a search and found this interview. It really gives you an picture of where he is coming from and his hope for our species, and his hope that people can be better and come together and have compassion for each other and be able rid ourselves of our division that prevents us from being able to come together and advance as a species, etc. I like where he is coming from...
A quote from the interview: And it doesn't matter what the viewpoint is on either the left or the right, or what even the debate topic is. The most insidious thing is that that division is happening in the first place, and we're not able to sit down, have a conversation that doesn't end up in even more division. Because topics that we're arguing about, really, at the end of the day, they're not going to matter if we become so divided that we can't even agree on how to progress as a species.
Nice interview; I also like what he's got to say. I'd never heard of him either until recently. I don't usually listen to rap at all, but this song "Money Game Part 3" is really, really good and the music video is pure art. I'm definitely going to check out some more of his music.

This is probably my favourite performance of "Alice". I just love the way she sings/belts that last chorus.
I either never knew or forgot that she also performed IWY that day! She sounds fantastic, every note is so on point. It always baffles me how she belts those high notes in the last chorus with such apparent ease. It must be so difficult, yet she seems super relaxed.

Haven't found the time to watch it yet but isn't this the interview where the girl asks "Do you kiff?" If yes, that's my favorite interview, the first time I saw it I literally laughed cried tears because it's so hilarious 😂 Just your typical embarrassing german teenage girl, could've been me but luckily I was only 9 when TBDT came out so no TV appearances for me this time around 😅 Yes, that's the one!
