I don't like chanting thing too but it's rare to have in chorus in today music. Should be outstanding.

It blows my mind when people say she or her label had to do an upbeat song after GF. No she does not. She's done plenty. Not just one on each album after TBDT but several on both GL and AL, thankfully just one on HAW.
What she needs to do is finally EVOLVE. Do something new and innovative instead of recycling the same type of song.

^I don't think they meant she "had to", but more like they wanted to really do it because of the success of GF. Frankly something upbeat is fine with me, but I do appreciate stuff that's in between upbeat and slow/smooth like Smile. It's upbeat enough for me, but not so slow where I have to skip it if I'm not in the mood for a slower song.
The chanting chorus is nothing new for Avril (why hello GF...) so if the DB chorus is bothersome because of that idk what to tell you. Unless of course you also don't like GF, then maybe it's just personal preference.

No I like stuff on TBDT. But it was original. DB I just feel like isn’t anything new and idk I find the chorus just boring and annoying to listen to. The stuff on TBDT is sort of like a mix of chanting and singing. DB is just chanting. I just think they could have written something better than that. I don’t think not liking that particular song = you must not like any of her songs with that style.

I agree the writing isn't as good for the chorus, but it doesn't ruin it for me. As far as not liking any of those song with that style, wasn't saying that was the case, just trying to figure out where you were coming from.

I think DB shouldn't have started out with the chorus. I know it was the intro because of the whole cheerleading chanting thing but I feel embarrassed when that part comes up. She should have just went in with the verse. I really like the verse.

This should be on the random thread. I was thinking about them just now though so I'll add to this lol. I just made a new playlist on Spotify. The pic it shows has contrasting covers. Billies dark cover across from Avrils dark cover. The other two sides Taylor and Shawn's full of light cover. Billie is so the next Avril.

And I also think she shouldn‘t have in the first place. I know I‘m now typing down a very unpopular opinion, but for me the endless fall of her career started with GF. Yes, GF was a huuuuge hit, but not to most of her fans. What happened back then was that she lost a looooooot of old fans, basically almost her whole fanbase and only gained some new. Why only some? Because GF worked as a single and it pushed the album a bit, but that was that. There‘s a riff between her fanbase before and after the release of TBDT. Now a lot of fans say they‘ve become fans with or after TBDT. Way less fans are still out there now which have been there since the very beginning. I think if she had continued the way she had been going with LG and UMS she‘d have a complete different fanbase now. I am not saying it would be for the better, but I really think so. I have said it many times, Avril did lose respect in the music industries with GF and TBDT. Many friends of mine that liked her before suddenly claimed how she was selling out and that they wouldn‘t support her any more. Before that Avril was on her way to become a serious and respected artist. I don‘t think GL was a flop (chart-wise) because of her long break, surely that added something to it, but I mostly think it flopped, cause too many fans/people already stopped caring about her with TBDT. I think TBDT did do well because she gained a lot of new people buying that album because of GF (no actual fans) and because of her old fans that at that time did buy the album to support her. I don‘t care how unpopular this opinion is, I stand by it. And I know a lot of people that still tell me how wrong her career went with and after TBDT. Btw, I am also not saying Avril was forced to do so or anything. It‘s okay that she wanted to change and do something different. But it is what it is.

Don't blame TBDT for that, blame the first 2 albums.. actually blame the Avril of the first 2 albums, if she only focused to the lyrics instead of the image, of the ''outside'', there wouldn't have been meltdowns! Fans followed her because it was something cool to do, just to tell their friends : i'm a fan of someone who doesn't get naked to make music.

I‘m not blaming anyone or anything for that matter. I wasn‘t calling out for action, I was simply stating an opinion.

I rather think (warning! Massively unpopular opinion next) that TBDT Avril were more like the "real Avril" as long as LG era was created for her. She was the role character and did it perfectly but they grabbed the horns by the "outside" (lol). LG as an album is a masterpiece but there were massive marketing strategy behind the songs, image, etc. They found the gap in the industry (just compare her LG era style to that celebrities who were famous that time) TBDT is one of her most honest albums IMO and it was so on the top in every segment. I don't think she sold herself, she recreate herself (with professionals ofc) instead that time after the anger of teenager years. She felt herself happy, confident and a grown woman. I also think she always had the bratty girl inside her and she just let it go. It was her biggest evolve in every way. And don't forget, she wanted to make a 'more rock' album first, later she did it with UMS and TBDT. Because TBDT was her most rock ish album despite the design. Somethimes I feel that some of the old fans want her to make the same sound over and over again and it's deteriorative for her musical and personal improvement. Just think about 'Break It So Good'. Loved the fresh sound but she couldn't take the risk putting it on the new album or release it as an EP. Or I could mention In Touch too.
