Wasn’t the Matrix new and upcoming when they wrote together? I thought she put them on the map. And not sure why SS put industry in quotes. It certainly is an industry. A huge one. Lauren Christy was already getting some major contracts and awards in the mid 90s, and The Matrix as a team already did some work for Christina Aguilera in 2000, then in 2002-2003 they got bigger with multiple major collaborations, so there was a breakout moment with Avril, but not exclusively with her. And I put industry in quotes because if you regard music as art, then calling the sphere an "industry" could be considered as degradation of art into mere commodities for the market. Of course you could also regard it as both, a work of art and a product of an industry, but that's a postmodernist view that is not universally accepted. So 1). I was right that she wasn’t working with “heavy hitters.” And 2). I’m pretty sure “artists” and their brokers have been trying to make a buck off their work since antiquity, which I believe predates postmodernism. So it’s evolved organically into an industry, like everything else.

So how many songs are sung by Avril in the Grammy museum? Taylor Swift, Avenged Sevenfolds, Shawn Mendes... They sung about 5 songs...

Do we know what else she sung aside from Warrior? Just click on the tweet and it will direct you to Avril Band-Aids on Twitter where all the videos are. Or just go on YouTube. She sang HAW, played acoustic guitar on MHE and GF, and a request of Warrior.

I don’t think there’s a al7 thread but: "Too out there" Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert out there? What does this mean? 😱 "Maybe next time" so never, great! Well this is the second time she brings it up so maybe she will release them someday. Could also do an EP with them 🤔

1) I'm not sure what you're even referring to by being "right", initially I said that Avril might've felt sidelined by their older (and indeed more experienced/renown) co-workers on the whole project. 2) art vs. industry is therefore hard to define, because just like every society with active trade isn't considered a capitalist one, neither is every artist making a buck from people buying their work considered having an industry. Commissioning artists to do artwork has been rather pervasive since the Renaissance, but certain aspects of such contracts could be considered as diverging from what could be seen as an industry in modern times - Botticelli and Michelangelo had greater artistic liberty doing works, than, for example, producers of Hallmark romance, romcom and holiday movies - of course the former two had also a much bigger reputation, but generally even the less prominent commissioned artists had certain liberties that are absent or reduced in other cases. Some may claim that the difference between being an industry or not is pretty much based on what autonomy an artist has - say, the difference between an artwork's shape being formed solely by an artist's wishes and intentions, vs. an artwork that is subordinated to market demands. Of course there exist various 'shades of gray' between the two extremes, and arguably even artist him/herself might be subconsciously subordinating himself to what's popular. All in all this is a very complex topic that really has no definitive or simple conclusion, so I'm gonna wrap this up here, we're going somewhat off-topic anyway.

Thoughts from the Grammy Museum performance:
She played Girlfriend on a guitar! I think this is the first time I’ve seen her do this. I really liked Warrior live much more than the studio version. She still sounds nasally - why? Even when speaking. Nonetheless, great performances! You lot who are going to the tour are in for a treat!

The last time I think it was during a charity show in México (teletón was the name of the even) and she played guitars during GF

What a disappointing setlist. So if someone hadn’t requested Warrior all we would have gotten is HAW and 2 old hits? I expected she’d at least do Devil. I don’t get it. What is her thought process when she picks songs? I hope the tour will certainly have a better setlist and include more HAW songs. And ok, she’s forgiven this time for not knowing lyrics if Warrior was a last minute request and she hadn’t rehearsed it, but I certainly hope she’s not going to forget lyrics on tour or be like “I’m not playing this or playing this instrument cause I forgot the lyrics/chords haha lol”
I like her outfit but I had hoped she would have worn something more dressed up for an event like this. And she was off key in some places in Warrior. But otherwise the performances sounded really good. I just wish she played more new songs instead of always playing old singles from a decade plus ago we’ve heard thousands of times.
About the country songs thing, I doubt they were really that “out there” but she probably meant in comparison to her own music they were really different than what people are used to from her. I hope she’ll release them, even if it’s just on a separate EP or something. But yeah I don’t have high hopes for them to be on AL7. We’ve been through this cycle since GL where she says she’ll include reject songs on the next album and it never happens. Maybe she could at least sell them to a country artist so we can at least still hear them.
