A show can be great/succesful eventhough people aren't singing along. When did it become a standard that if people don't know the words, the songs shouldn't get performed?

My friend attended and was front row. Literally fans front row didn’t know the new songs. So I kinda get why the set is short + mainly classics No offense to your friend but this is what I don’t understand. Not just with Avril but people seem to do this with a lot of artists, where they get front row sats to a show and don’t even know the new songs. Why? Why would you even go or want to get front row seats if you don’t even like the artist that much? And they’re also taking a spot away from a fan who probably deserved it more. That kind of stuff annoys me.

I also don’t see how not singing along is necessarily an indication people don’t know the words or don’t know the songs. Maybe they just don’t want to sing along. If they don’t even know the new singles like HAW, Devil, and DB, I mean that’s just ridiculous. Why should she only cater to casuals who don’t even know HAW and ignore her real fans who know every song? Also just because you might not know a song or know the words doesn't impede your enjoyment of hearing a new song. This logic is just dumb to me.

So I kinda get why the set is short + mainly classics When was the last time her typical set list was longer than 16-18 songs? I know TBDTour seemed longer but in fact there were lots of instrumental tracks /video footage/not fully played songs and I’m not sure if that meant a longer show in general. The running time of TTSMU was little over an hour, and I think the same for Bonez, maybe closer to 75 minutes, TBDT was 75 min (going by the DVD), GL was 90, AL varied but I think it was close to 90. Her shows have always run somewhere between 75-90 minutes. She’s never done 2+ hours.

How do you know people don't know the new songs? Because they aren't singing along? Lol not everyone likes singing at concerts especially not if they are in front row directly in front of the artist.

This could be true. I guess it depends on if they were singing the older songs because then it suggests they don't know/like the new stuff. If they don't sing anything they probably just don't like singing

I was watching a few videos from last night and her energy has drastically changed from the first night. She was much more energetic and seemed to be more into it . She also sang the high note in the MHE bridge. I guess she took that first night as a “test performance” and now she’s a lot more comfortable on stage. She just needs to add two more HAW songs and she’s good to go.

This is why you don't have to use the back ground pre-recorded voices. 😂

It would be sad if these fans don't know the new songs.

That kind of stuff annoys me. I am not going to wait a million years for my favourites to come within 3 hours drive from me, so when I went to a nearby gig, I went to artists I sort of dig. There's also artists who I like their old stuff, but don't care about new stuff. And I do not see some obligation to be located 100m in the rear where I can't see anything just because I am not the most super-duper mega-trooper stan-fan. Sometimes I outright hate how tone-deaf fans drown out the voice of the artist. I understand singing along, but sometimes its just too much.

Sometimes I outright hate how tone-deaf fans drown out the voice of the artist. I understand singing along, but sometimes its just too much. Not saying people can’t go see an artist they only mildly like. But they shouldn’t be getting front row seats over fans that would appreciate it way more. Not getting the front row is not at all sitting miles away and not being able to see anything. There’s a major difference. By all means get decent/good seats, but there’s no need to get the best VIP seats if you don’t even like the artist that much. It’s plain selfish. I know if I went to a concert of an artist I mildly like, I would feel selfish taking the best seats when there’s certainly going to be fans there who would love to have them more than me. Don’t take stuff away from other people who would appreciate it more and who frankly deserve it more. Imagine how pissed people are when they find out they couldn’t get front row seats to their favorite artist because some self absorbed asshole took them and they don’t even like the artist that much. People can definitely get obnoxious at concerts, however in my experience it’s never been bad enough to drown out the artist. The sound system is definitely loud enough. You’d only hear it if you were standing right next to them or if the venue is really small (like a club size venue). You hear it more in videos people take than at the actual concert itself.
