PLEASE NOTE: This is a thread made by theraven, and that alone is a warning for anyone who dislikes spoilers, because I suck them up. Literally, like a sponge.

Who likes the movies? Or books?
I have to admit I haven't read the books. Yet. That's only a matter of time.
Who else screamed when Will became the next captain of the Flying Dutchman?
Spoiler: Who is excited for Orlando Blooms return as Will Turner in 'Dead Men tell no Tales'?

Personally I prefer the "original cast" with Depp, Bloom and Knightly over Penelope Cruz.

I've seen all 4 movies and rode the ride at Disney World but never read the books. IMO the first movie is really good but the others are either boring or have complicated plot lines. I feel like they are all the same.

They were quite complicated when I first watched them - I was like 14 and I didn't understand what they were saying at the time, to begin with. I had to repeat at least twice to really know what the story was about.

I had to repeat at least twice to really know what the story was about. I'm in my 30s, and I still couldn't tell you what the hell these films are about. On Stranger Tides is particularly baffling. I think there's a difference between a complicated story and a confusing one. I have no problem following complicated thrillers etc.

The only film that I truly understand the storyline to is The Curse of the Black Pearl. The others….

am I the only one who loved the three first movies? I agree that the two last ones have more complicated plots and that the movie's fast pace and characters' constant side switching do not help clarifying them, but it's precisely one of the reasons I liked them so much- you just cannot expect what will happen next. And the sets are gorgeous. Specially the huge Christmas-tree like building made out of derelict ships where the pirates gather to elect their King. I have to agree about the soundtrack being wonderful as well. It's actually one of the last Disney productions that I genuinely liked.
Oh, and Keith Richards' cameo. That's priceless.

I have watched the movies, but I don't remember a lot from them since it's been quite some time ever since and I wasn't a huge fan. But I definitely liked it, from what I can remember. I haven't read the books. However, I'd like to read all of them one day.
