Avril Lavigne Attends the 2022 MTV VMAsAvril Lavigne fondly recalls the night she won her first ever award, which was an MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist back in 2002. Now twenty years later, she had the honor of presenting that exact award to Dove Cameron at last night's ceremony at the Prudential Center in New Jersey! Avril graced the carpet alongside her fiance MOD SUN in an all-black ensemble by Versace, including some very baggy pants reminiscent of her old sk8er grrl style. She also participated in the opening number of "First Class" performed by Jack Harlow and Fergie, seated on an airplane set and jamming out amongst the other attendees. Avril was up for two awards in the category for Best Alternative Video, one nomination for her collab with blackbear called "Love It When You Hate Me," and the other a nod for her collab with Willow Smith on "G R O W," however the award went to Maneskin for their track "I Wanna Be Your Slave."
