Let's pretend Avril's decided to re-issue Let Go for it's 15th anniversary (even though that's still a couple years away). You have been asked to create a tracklist for the re-issue though it must include the first thirteen tracks in their original order. Here are all the officially released songs from the era along with the leaked unreleased: Original Album: 1. Losing Grip 2. Complicated 3. Sk8er Boi 4. I'm with You 5. Mobile 6. Unwanted 7. Tomorrow 8. Anything But Ordinary 9. Thing's I'll Never Say 10. My World 11. Nobody's Fool 12. Too Much to Ask 13. Naked My World: 1. Fuel (Live) 2. Basketcase (Live) 3. Unwanted (Live) 4. Sk8er Boi (Live) 5. Knockin' on Heaven's Door (Live) 6. Why B-Sides: - I Don't Give
- Get Over It
- Falling Down
- O Holy Night (with Chantal Kreviazuk)
Unreleased: - You Never Satisfy Me
- Headset
- Tomorrow You Didn't
- Not the Only One
- Once and for Real
- All You Will Never Know
- Falling into History
- Stay (Be the One)
- Move Your Little Self On
- Let Go
- Make Up
- Take Me Away
- Think About It
- Breakaway
Other: - Complicated (Tom Lord-Alge Remix)
- Complicated (The Matrix Remix)
- Nobody's Fool (Live in Vancouver for Z95)
- I'm with You (Live in Mexico City)
- Naked (Live)
- Losing Grip (Live)
*If you want to include unleaked tracks or something of the such, just write in something along the lines of "Previously unreleased song".

I would include all the officially released Bsides of the era: Why, Get Over It, I Don't Give, and Falling Down. Then include Let Go because it's the title track and Avril's version of Breakaway since I think after all these years it would be cool for the public to hear her version. Of course it would be great if all the Bsides got released in HQ.

I believe it's a good song on its own, and with just a little reworking, it could've been as strong as some of the other album tracks. Maybe Avril just didn't feel that it fit the flow of the album like Breakaway?

I'd release those unreleased tracks she did with Clif Magness, they did a bunch of hard-rocking songs similar to Unwanted and Losing Grip (I think even harder than that), before Arista sent her The Matrix to do mainstream pop songs. Will leave here one of the quotes of it: - " Arista was drop-dead shit afraid that I would come out with a whole album that sounded like ‘Unwanted’ and ‘Losing Grip" - Avril about Arista - " ... the harder-rocking songs on Let Go – specifically “Losing Grip” and “Unwanted” – had the sound she wanted for the whole album. Those tracks were co-written with Clif Magness, who gave her enough creative control that she was able to pen “every single lyric and the melodies.” She says the label wasn't thrilled by the heavy guitar sound, and that's when it hooked her up with the Matrix." - " Lavigne played The Matrix a song that she had recorded and really loved, a rock track in the vein of System of a Down. The lyrics were kind of 'I hate you, I hate you, hate you,'" The Matrix about Lavigne. www.rollingstone.com/music/news/little-miss-cant-be-wrong-20030320www.ew.com/article/2002/11/01/avril-lavigne-anti-britney

That's why I find these rock influences kind of outdated...

Until now, I've always suspected that the whole 'rock' vibe in the early days was completely manufactured by the label.* But it seems she actually WANTED to make authentic rock music, and the label turned it into something more radio-friendly and pop-rocky. What I want to know is why she isn't making that kind of music in 2015, and why we're getting songs like RnR and Hello Kitty, and a long list of soft ballads. Is she still being told what kind of music she has to make, or did she just lose interest in what she originally wanted to do, or what? *FYI, this doesn't contradict how much I love her old albums. The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland has no actual ghosts, but I can enjoy the ride.

[backseat moderating]
Maybe this discussion about Avril's early musical direction should be moved to a separate thread, because it's just too interesting to be an off-topic thing

lol whenever I discover Avril's early ideas for her songs or b-side tracks, they are always like this
Didn't the demo song she played on the guitar in MTV Diary 2003 go like that too?

That was a song by the band GOB called Give Up the Grudge. They opened for avril for the TTSMU U.S. Tour and she also appeared in the video for the track.
