A place to discuss about Britney.
Lately, I've been wanting to listen to her music. ...Baby One More Time (album) makes me so nostalgic. Britney Jean was a good album, I'd throw some songs out but it never got the attention it deserved. A new song will be out soon, featuring Iggy Azalea. I totally agree. I've been liking her new stuff. She is an icon after all. It's nice in a world of uncertainty to have some stability, even if it is is a Britney Spears song.

Did anyone watch the Britney Ever After documentary on LifeTime? I just watched it and it's horrible, to say the least. The casting made no sense. The actress they chose to protray her looked nothing like her. Couldn't act either. The whole thing was just awkward, cringey, and reminded me of why I never watch LifeTime films. Britney did not give her blessing for this to be made and it's easy to see why.

Throughout the whole documentary I couldn't help but think "who thought this was actually a good idea to make and air this?". The part where they had Britney text "I want 2 dvrce u", when Britney and Justin had a dance off at a club ( x100) and how they portrayed the umbrella incident were just some of the worst parts off of a long list of such for me.

Now that we have had time to digest Glory... I thought it would be cool to rank Britney's albums... Personally, I don't listen to her first 2 albums because they are super cheesy... Email My Heart says it all, so I have omitted them from my countdown. 1) Blackout: Fan favourite for the obvious reasons, still can't be beaten! Danjas' production on this album is magical, it is the instrumentation that I come back for, Britneys' rasp is added bite. Favourite Four: Gimme More, Break the Ice, Hot as Ice and Get Back. The Vibe: Darkney (9.5 / 10) 2) Glory: Her latest offering is pretty damn good. It's slick, modern and mature (okay there's a couple of duds but on the whole it's consistent). Glory definitely has some of the best Britney vocals to date and some catchy melodies too. Favourite Four: Just Like Me, Just Luv Me, Liar, and Clumsy. The Vibe: Sleekney (9 / 10) 3) Femme Fatale: For some reason I love the oddness of this album, it's quite experimental and challenging of the pop formula. When I listen to it I imagine Britney as a female Terminator fighting a battle against the rays of the sun. Favourite Four: Hold It against Me, Up N Down, Gasoline and Drop Dead. The Vibe: Robotney (8 / 10) 4) Britney: The album that saw Britney become a "woman", sonically it's so shamefully of its time but because of nostalgia I really like it. This is possibly the darkest overall feel to any Britney album which is actually quite dark, as most Britney songs aren't particularly "uplifting / happy". Favourite Four: Slave 4 U, Bombastic Love, Before the Goodbye, What It's Like to Be Me. The Vibe: Sassney (7 / 10) 5) In the Zone: The album that brought Toxic! But also allowed us to really gain personal insight to her unscripted thoughts with songs that werent so obviously written for her. This album introduced us to a hip hop / club influence which was a welcoming departure from the classic pop feel of the 90s, I think this album has aged quite well considering its 15 years old. Favourite Four: Breathe On Me, Touch of My Hand, Everytime and I Got that Boom Boom. The Vibe: Sexney (8 / 10) - I know I've scored it higher than 'Britney' but nostalgia gets you good. 6) Circus: I like the hazy club feel this album has, it's similar to Glory but with less conviction. This album definitely lingered in the shadow of Blackout upon release. Favourite Four: Blur, Unusual You, Kill the Lights and If You Seek Amy. The Vibe: PostBlackoutney / PreGloyney (6.5 / 10) 7) Britney Jean: What ruined this album was the BIG build up, all the comments about amazing it is, even calling it 'Blackout V.2' in promo. This album was all Bang but little else, there's no personality to the songs except the excruciatingly cring worthy 'Chilling With You'. This album felt like it was chasing the zeitgeist of 2013 but never really caught up. Favourite Two: Work Bitch and Til' its Gone (honestly don't listen to any of the others). The Vibe: EDMney (4 / 10) Would love to hear your thoughts / countdowns

^ I really love doing/reading countdowns for albums! I definitely agree with a fair amount of your countdown and I think you make some good points. My countdown: 1) Blackout: It's a pop masterpiece - there's really nothing else to say. 10/10 2) Femme Fatale: Even though one could ague that it's a generic album, I've always had a love for it. It's a cohesive piece and all the songs are distinct. Really, any of the songs could have been a single and done fairly well. Even though I really don't like Dr. Luke, Britney did wonders with him and Max Martin. 10/10 3) Circus: It has some very strong tracks like If U Seek Amy and Womanizer, however, songs like My Baby drag it down a little. I really like the upbeat vibe of the album though. It's like the more cheerful sister of Blackout. 9/10 4) In the Zone: I find it a little overrated but I can't deny that I love the album. It was something totally new for Britney at the time and you can never go wrong with songs like Toxic or Me Against the Music. I'm really glad that Britney collaborated with Madonna! 8/10 5) Britney: Some songs like Cinderella and Bombastic Love are a little cheesy, but they are great nonetheless! Even though there are not any songs I actually dislike or would regard as filler, I don't think the album is as strong a piece as the albums above are. 8/10 6) Oops! ... I Did It Again: Even more cheesy than Britney, the album still has some underrated gems like What U See (Is What U Get) and Can't Make You Love Me. The singles are almost all classics and are very strong songs in their own right. I can't really listen to songs like Dear Diary though. 7/10 7) Britney Jean: I know that many regard it as her worst album, but looking back there are actually a lot of songs I like on it. Work Bitch, Passenger, Tik Tik Boom, Body Ache etc. are all undeniable bops. I was a little disappointed when it wasn't actually the "Blackout 2.0" that fans thought it would be, and I am aware of all the Myah Marie rumors. However, I still think the album is a strong effort overall. 7/10 8) Glory: I'm actually surprised that the album ended up this low on my list. It has some amazing efforts such as If I'm Dancing and Do You Wanna Come Over? but there are still a few songs that I'm kind of "meh" on. However, a lot of the songs have grown on me since the release so chances are the album will be bumped up a couple spots a few months from now. 6/10 9) ...Baby One More Time: By far Britney's cheesiest album - it's the epitome of what 90s bubblegum pop is. I skip over songs like E-Mail My Heart, but I do really like other songs like I Will Be There, Deep in My Heart and all of the singles. I still think it's her weakest album though. 5/10 (Even though ratings such as 5 may seem real low, I'm rating the albums on a weighted scale specifically toward Britney's albums only. I still love all albums and think even her weakest effort is better than a lot of other artists best efforts)

1) Britney: It's pop perfection IMO. Favorite Four: Cinderella, Overprotected, What It's Like to Be Me, I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman, unless bonus tracks count then When I Found You 2) Blackout: Also pretty much pop perfection. Favorite Four: Piece of Me, Break the Ice, Freakshow, Perfect Lover 3) Glory: Overall a solid pop record and I like that she tried some new sounds, there's less autotune than previous albums, and some real instruments used. Favorite Four: Man on the Moon, Slumber Party, Liar, If I'm Dancing 4) Circus: A solid pop effort, pretty classic Britney. Favorite Four: Womanizer, Mannequin, Out From Under, If U Seek Amy 5) Oops!... I Did It Again: A lot of the songs kind of sound the same, but it's a classic Britney album. Favorite Four: Stronger, Lucky, When Your Eyes Say It, Dear Diary 6) ...Baby One More Time: Basically same as above. Yes it's cheesy and definitely doesn't age well (E-mail My Heart LMAO), but who cares because it's a classic '90s pop record and it's Britney bitch. Favorite Four: Soda Pop, Born to Make You Happy, Sometimes, You Drive Me Crazy 7) Britney Jean: I think this album is a little underrated. I do think it's a bit of a Goodbye Lullaby/Avril Lavigne situation where it sounds like half of one thing and half of another and it's a bit of a mess. I don't care for the EDM half of the record, for the most part. But I do like the more personal songs and ballads, and I like that she actually co-wrote on every song. Favorite Four: Alien, Passenger, It Should Be Easy, 'Til It's Gone 8) In the Zone: I never liked this album that much. I know most fans regard it as one of her best. It's just never been my cup of tea, really. The ballads on this album are good though. Favorite Four: Toxic, Brave New Girl, Touch of My Hand, Shadow 9) Femme Fatale: I think it's honestly her worst album. It's too EDM-heavy for my taste, too electronic, too robotic. Favorite Four: How I Roll, Seal It With A Kiss, Till the World Ends, Scary

Looking at these rankings reminds me of the longevity of her career making solid music. When I think of Britney I mainly think of the first 2 albums but I've actually heard a lot of her music over her career just by following her passively via radio hits (like I did with Avril before a few months ago). Think she might actually be underrated as a musician in that sense, as ridiculous as that sounds given her popularlity.

Has anyone been keeping up with the #FreeBritney movement? I don't pay as much attention to the personal lives of celebrities as I did when I was younger, but I've been sort of keeping up with Britney's lately. I definitely think the conservatorship has overarched into a form of exploitation of Britney and I hope she is able to regain her freedom. I guess we'll see in February 2021.

Yes, I’ve been semi keeping up with it. I followed her for a while on IG then unfollowed her some time ago when her posts started getting weird, then maybe a month or so ago I started following her again and her posts are getting weirder and weirder. A lot of people think it isn’t her writing them. The conservatorship thing is definitely weird. A lot of people have noticed that they still allow her to work and make them money that she herself is only entitled to a small percentage of. I’ve read that basically through this conservatorship she isn’t allowed to get pregnant, leave her home, spend her own money, and a bunch of other stuff without permission from her dad. Her social media also seems like it’s either heavily monitored/filtered or she maybe isn’t even allowed to use it at all. She tried to go live on her boyfriends phone and he snatched it away from her only 4 seconds in. Something strange is definitely going on and she looks absolutely horrible these days. You can see in her eyes how worn down she is. I heard she was supposed to make an appearance at the In the Zone experience but she didn’t so her estate had to give back the $1 million she was paid to do the appearance. She’s fighting back and not letting them earn another penny off her, good for her! I hope eventually she can get out of this, it’s horrible what they’re doing to her and clearly she has been relatively stable for the last decade that she doesn’t really need someone controlling everything she does.

I'm not really a fan of her, only listened to some her old songs (late 90s, early 00s) and loved them for the nostalgia. I started following her few months ago bcos of her "weird" posts where she is posting pics with the same top for a gazillion number of times and weird captions. Some fans think that she is trying to convey some hidden message to them. Even the Q&A she did wasnt really the questions most fans were asking. They even think that maybe she is already dead...

I only listened to her first 2 albums and never really after those albums.. but I like rankings and think I'm gonna check out some albums. I do know all the singles she has been released over the years but wasn't a fan of them. Some were okay but I was a huge fan when I was a kid when she released Baby One More Time.

That's weird.. I've read a bit about her weird posts and Free Britney but I don't have a clue what's going on? She's been in a conservatorship since her infamous meltdown. Her father basically handles all her affairs, including her money. While she earns millions, she's given an "allowance" of only a fraction of that weekly. She has to have permission to be able to spend it, leave her house, get pregnant, among a bunch of other things. The conservatorship was initially put in place when she was very mentally unstable, but clearly over the last decade she's improved and is in a better place than she was then. There is no real reason why it should still be in place. The suspect thing is that she has to ask permission to do a whole bunch of stuff regarding her own choices and freedoms, but they still allow her to be able to work (aka make them more money) without any questions. In early 2019, she was supposed to do another Vegas residency that was then canceled. Britney cited her father's ailing health as the reason and that she wanted to be there to take care of him, but now we all know that was BS (no pun intended lol). She hasn't released any new music since or performed. Something is definitely up. They basically just want to control her money at this point. That's why her fans are trending #FreeBritney because she really shouldn't be in this conservatorship anymore, but the courts keep ruling that she should be. It's very clearly mentally tearing her apart. A brief look at her Instagram posts over the last few months will tell you everything you need to know. She posts these bizarre videos where she is basically always wearing the same clothes and walking back and forth or dancing around. Her eye makeup looks like she's left it on for days. Her hair looks like she has some cheap weave or extensions that are never brushed. Her voice has always been nasal and chipmunkish sounding but lately she sounds like she constantly has a cold when she talks. Her eyes look very sad. She stares at the camera in such a creepy way. She answers random "fan questions" that she claims people have been asking her but really no one is asking about what her favorite movie is or favorite junk food. I think her social media is heavily monitored and this is the only way she can communicate with fans, despite the fact no one is really asking her these questions. The captions of the posts are also written in a way that doesn't sound like her. Sometimes the posts are completely random pictures of artwork or other stuff that has nothing to do with her. It's all just so strange and bizarre and you can tell she's not ok.
