Last night I dreamed I was listening to "Dumb Blonde". It was some kind of punk-rock with a really fun (but not at all childish), catchy, and aggressive sound to it, and live drums and roaring electric guitars. It also featured Bonnie McKee's vocals, there was one part after the chorus where she kind of screamed "eins, zwei, drei, vier" (German for "one, two, three, four"; she didn't really manage to pronounce it properly, but it still sounded cool). I absolutely loved it.

Did I say earlier that I was gonna wait till around mid-January for my pre-order? Well, changed my mind, I just pre-ordered it from Amazon.

I also listened to TMIO a couple more times by now. One of the few things I don't much like about it (and yes, this is quite nit-picking, but I'd still like to share it) is that gospel choir in the background in the first pre-chorus. You know, that part in parantheses - "But every time that you touch me I forget what we're fighting about / (I forget, I forget what we're fightin')". I don't have any problem with those background vocals in any other part of the song, it's just that one pre-chorus where they're a bit too in-your-face imo. Another thing is the line "You're dangerous when you take me like a thief". I just feel like I've heard these words so many times in other jazz/blues/soul influenced pop songs already. "You're dangerous", like a "thief", like a "pro". I don't listen to this kind of genre normally, so maybe it's just coincidence that the few jazz/blues/soul inspired songs I know do have these kind of lyrics. Still, I simply don't like it much. What I really do like about the song is that it's kind of unpredictable in a way. Imo Avril's music has become more and more predictable since GL. You could nearly always tell beforehand what the chord progression would be like; often, while listening to a song, you could tell which note would follow the current one, or which word she'd sing next. I guess this is quite common in pop music, and one of the things that make pop music what it is - it's catchy, easily memorable, and what's easier to be memorized than a pattern you feel like you've heard hundreds of times before? But I got quite weary of it since AL, so I'm really glad now that TMIO is not like that. I'm sure it's that jazz/blues/soul influence that causes that. But there's especially that short part just before the last chorus, when Avril sings "Tell me it's over" and then there's this kind of effect that makes it sound as though we're in for a conversion. I swear, every damn time I listen to that part I'm like "oh god, there's a conversion coming." I don't have anything about conversions, I even like them sometimes, but they have to fit, it has to sound natural, like there was no other way to proceed the song unless with a conversion. Otherwise it sounds forced or just over the top. Imo, had there really been a conversion in TMIO it would've been too much. But - fortunately - there is none. It just sounds like there will be. And that's exactly what I mean with TMIO being unpredictable - you strongly expect a conversion (whether you like it or no), but what you get is the unexpected. Another thing I absolutely love are the vocals. I mentioned those before in my first post after the song's release, but I have to mention them again. They're fabulous! Especially in the bridge, that "oooh" after the first line. And the "I just can't do this myself" - wow! I really gotta check what note Avril is hitting there. One more thing I'd like to mention: I don't like today's pop music much. Since about 2010 my liking for it has started decreasing more and more, by now I very rarely really enjoy a modern pop song. I find most of them too plastic, too overproduced, badly mixed, too many fake instruments, always the same annoying drum machine beat. And jazz, blues, and soul has never really been my cup of tea either. I can 100% appreciate that it's good music, but I personally just find it too classy. It's the kind of music you listen to while at a nice restaurant or café, sipping wine and nicely tapping your foot to the rhythm. It's all very composed. But I prefer music you can sing along to, belt along to, maybe even headbang a little. But somehow, Avril takes these two genres that I don't really like much, and I end up loving the result. Could be I just love it right now 'cause it's new or 'cause it's Avril or 'cause I was expecting jazz influence anyway. But I'm still positively surprised by how much I like it. Okay, that was a lot more than I'd intended, oops. xD

Physical copies of HAW cost 19,99 € ($22.70) on German Amazon! Why the fuck is it so much more expensive than anywhere else? Hopefully they'll lower the price before the release. I don't really want to pre-order from somewhere abroad 'cause of shipping costs and long delivery times. But if the price won't change, well... it's Avril, she can have my money. Still, I really wonder.....?

It's so cool she answered so many questions this time. Right now, though, the only thing I really care about is "I will be coming back to Europe". Yes! Finally! :')

She's answered quite a lot of interesting questions so far, especially for her standards. I remember Q&As where she answered, like, 7 questions.
But is it just me, or does she seem to prefer replying to people she already follows?

I think Avril is the only artist I follow who still has these Target exlusive editions... I honestly think this kind of stuff only increases illegal downloads. 'Cause what about those people in countries who don't have Target? And does Target ship worldwide for a reasonable price? I don't think so... Of course, I also understand Target's point of view: they got this exclusive edition that you can't get anywhere else, so obviously people in the U.S. (and Canada, Mexico, any other country?) are going to buy their copy of HAW there and give Target lots of money. It's a win-win situation there.
Still, as someone who lives in a country where most people probably don't even know about Target, it's frustrating. I just hope those 2 bonus songs will either be not very interesting to me or later available on Amazon or iTunes or some deluxe edition of HAW.
About the pre-order: I'm gonna wait and see what else Avril's official store will offer. Maybe there will be a limited signed edition of HAW or something. So yeah, for now, I won't pre-order it, but wait till mid-January or so.
I personally think some of the stuff on Avril's official store is quite nice, though not worth buying for me. It's still quite expensive, and then there's shipping costs and having to wait for up to 6 weeks and the risk of the package getting lost... Nah, unless there's something really, really awesome I'd rather be without HAW era merch.

Phew, that was so exciting, I'm still shaking...
Alright, I only listened to the song and watched the video this once just now. I really, really liked it! It wasn't exactly what I'd expected; I'd expected it to be quieter and lighter, a bit like "Falling Fast". I'd also expected some acoustic guitars. I hardly heard any piano, but I might just have missed it. But it does have this jazz/blues/soul sound that I'd expected. And while I usually don't like these genres much / find them boring, I really enjoyed TMIO. I don't know yet if it's just because it's a new song and something Avril's never done before. I guess I'll have to wait at least two more weeks to be able to tell. Otherwise, well, it definitely has these modern pop elements, which I'm actually not so fond of either, but TMIO seems to be an exception. It's just so catchy, but in a good way. I can hear Melissa Bel's influence (I listened to her latest EP a couple of days ago). It also reminds me a bit of "Tell Me You Love Me" by Demi, which is also quite jazz/blues/soul (?).
The lyrics are really good, but that's not much of a surprise, since Avril teased (pretty much?) all the lyrics beforehand. It's just the topic that I can't relate to at all, but since the song is so well-written, I might be able to either find another way of interpreting it or just ignore the lyrics more or less and concentrate on the emotion and the melodies.
What I also like a lot - concerning chart performance: it sounds very modern and has something serious, but it's not too serious. It's very mature. I can easily imagine this being played on the radio over and over again. And it is quite different from HAW. What's always kind of annoyed me since GL era was that the first and second single sounded way too similar, giving the public the impression that these fun/childish songs were the only kinds of songs Avril could create. That finally seems to be over.
About the music video: I didn't really manage to pay that much attention to it. I noticed that they shot it in 4:3 screen, I kinda liked that. The colours were pretty intense, but it was fitting. Avril looked so beautiful, but the lip sync... I always miss some more enthusiasm there. She barely seems to open her mouth. And she looked so inexperienced on the piano. She always does, imo. I can ignore that, though. I got the feeling that the music video was not so much there to focus on Avril singing, but to focus on the story. Like "When You're Gone".
One last thing: Avril's voice - holy shit! It's incredible! She really captured the emotion and the for jazz/blues/soul needed flow. Wow!

Erik fih thanks! I can't see the date, though, looks like they removed it, surely to fix the 2018/2019 mistake. They also used the not so well edited version of the album cover.
