Most of artist/bands from the 90/00s are still active like Avril. Their carriers like Avi has reached their peaks. (Btw Sum41 is in the making or Deryck is making it. Last album came out in 2011 along with GL) Look at Madonna and Cher they manage to shine through everytime they go back on stage, but they aren't huge stars anymore. As long as there are a group of fans still there, any artist can go on for decades. But you can't expect them to beat the most popular new and younger artists. It's the same thing for all artists/bands imo. So long we got the fan base in Brazil/Japan you can almost guarantee that Avril will [be able to] release music. So if she ain't Arina Grande, Taylor Swift and Sia atm, she will never be as popular as she was. In a few years these ladies will also fade a little. And new female singers will take the spotlight. But as said that doesn't mean that they won't release music. Get possible chart toppers, have massive concerts. And some like Avril need to step down a notch to match her level and do the best in the position she's in. Exactly. Avril had her time in the spotlight the way that artists like Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor, Justin Bieber, etc. are having now. At the time Avril was popular she was being touted as the "new" Alanis Morissette. It happens with every new generation of music. Someday Taylor, Ariana, JB, etc. will be at the same level as Avril, still big artists, but the peak of their popularity will be gone and new artists will take their place. That's just how it is. I think Avril and most of her fans realize this and to most of us it doesn't matter whether or not she ever becomes as big as she used to be, we just want her to keep making music for as long as she can and tour in as many places as she can.

Great point BogoGog24, you always have thoughtful and intelligent posts. Someday all the artists will be in the same level of popularity. Time (AKA people) put all in his/her/its place. In the future new artists will arise, is how the system works. And these new artists will be awarded with "Taylor Swift Awards" she has awards with her name.

In Wonderland. What's the matter? I don't want ignore anyone. A lot of people have thoughtful post. And a lot of people has wonderful ideas, or hilarious comments. You are one of these people In Wonderland, but more people are included too. I don't want to ignore anyone, but if you have feel ignored, maybe a third or a four person (and so on) not mentioned feels ignored. But i think BogoGog24 is famous for her wall of text-like posts And i like (sometimes) reading this large explanations about something. Returning to the topic of Avril Lavigne popularity in 2016: "Avril don't have a music award with her name (like other songwriters), but she don't need the award, she has the amount of popularity she wants (even more than the amount she wants, sometimes). I think she is agree with the number of fans she have, she is glad for all the things she have, all the added things is a bonus for her. We don't have to worry, this is not sad".

Let's face the fact that half of the Let Go success wasn't come from her but The Matrix. Also, I found most of the artists in 00's were not noticeable as 90's or as outstanding as Adele. I just wouldn't think Avril as an important or strong musician since there are Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, JT, Beyonce etc She is a low key and long term successful musician with more talent.

It would be great to see Avril receiving an award honoring her career... like the artist of the millennium, decade , etc..
I think she won't be big anymore, I'm feeling like she's having the same paths as Alanis Morissette or Hole. They were famous and big during the 90s, and after their first 2-3 albums, their popularity started to fade away. Now they're highlights for fans and their scene. At least Avril left her mark on music history, she will be remembered as one of the most important female artist on the pop-rock, pop-punk and even "rock" scene. That's still a good reference.
BTW, I see someone pointing at Green Day success with American Idiot.... but we have to remember, they had that success (again), because at that time there was a other wave of popularity with pop-punk, skatepunk, punk rock music, so basically they ride that wave with them (Avril even is included here, as a key of popularity). Seeing this, the music scene now should incorporate more influenced-rock songs, instead of the shitty dance/electro pop that is dominating the charts, and Avril could be more relevant

I agree that Avril should get some kind of award, at least from Canada. Her career has spanned over a decade now. She deserves some kind of award to honor that.
With the way her last couple albums have gone, Avril doesn't seem interested in making pop rock or pop punk music anymore. GL was mostly soft rock and acoustic pop, piano pop, etc. and AL was mostly pop or indie pop. Fly is a pop ballad. Even if pop rock or punk made a comeback I don't think Avril would necessarily retreat back to that genre. She seems to have mellowed out now.

I think she doesn't want to be big anymore, if she wanted it she would've promoted AL better and more. A lot of big artists don't want to be huge now, think about Rihanna or Beyonce both don't promote their new albums and they don't care about fame/succsess

I think also if she wanted to be big again she would waste no time in getting out a new album ASAP and would be working with big names in the industry, but instead she is working with people like Zane Carney who I don't think most people have heard of and the guy from We the Kings, who aren't really super popular right now.

Some people as Butch Walker or Bonnie McKee maybe not have succeed music career, but they have a good vision about hits. Zane Carney also works with John Mayer so we can hope that this album will be more various (especially singles)

She's kind of irrelevant now to the wide public. Look at Fly, she released a new song which has a really touching meaning to it but no one cares. Most people only see her as gossip nowadays (love life etc). We should accept that and love her still because we know better than the majority. 😊 yeah, its true just like her Song "forgotten". She doesn't want to be forgotten ... I really miss to see her rockin'.

I think she's tired and taking some sweet rest. I a huge fan of her and whatever style she has right now ,I still love her. Its hard nowadays to be on top of media because of many competitors like (new born artist, singer). Even there are many competitors I still believe in Avril .. She's never be forgotten because she has the unique lifestyle. I know not today but tomorrow I believe that Avril will will rock the whole world again. No matter what happen I will be still a huge fan of her
