Unless it was lost in the editing room, he seems to have forgotten about that MTV Idol thing back in 2003. Though he's like 60 years old, he's played thousands of shows and probably met countless other musicians and celebrities, so I guess it's understandable.

But it looks like her "Fuel" cover was pretty forgettable for him to not remember her at least as "the girl who covered Fuel a long time ago". He does remember meeting her, though, which is good I guess  |

In fairness I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't realize that the 18 year old Avril that he met back then is the same person as who she is now. He may remember meeting her and remember she did his song, but might not make the connection she's now 30+. If someone showed him a new photo of her he probably wouldn't believe it's the same person.

If you think about it Avril isn't as popular as she used to be as well. So you can probably imagine why he'd recognize Kardashian and be a bit on the forgetful side with Avril. Because the Kardashians are all over the news, and Avril is really only popular in her fans' circle. Mix that together with the fact that he's met a lot of people, and then think about it again, it was just the one performance of Fuel in a night full of different artists covering them... maybe he met her later or before that once or twice so I'm not surprised he doesn't seem 100% sure of who she is. I don't know if I'm making any sense here |
