Well, is kinda hard to describe this album. As some said before, the cover doesn't make any sense with the songs inside lol. And yeah... definetely the album sounds/looks lazy, perhaps for the fact that she didn't expend a lot of time working on it like the previous albums, and surely because Epic that sent her back to studio ¬¬... still, I like this album more than TBDT
I really enjoy HTNGU and for me it was the best option for 1st single, nice lyrics, nice production and I like this forever young vibe that is very consistent on this album (at least something has to be), you can really feel this vibe on all upbeat songs on the album. For me, Let Me Go should be de 2nd single instead of RNR (when Rock N Roll came out, I really hated because I didn't want another silly song to be a single).
I like almost all the songs on the album, actually I just dont like Bitchin' Summer (for me this is the worst production of the album and I almost don't listen to it... still sometimes I caught myself singing to it haha), Bad Girl (honestly I don't know why a lot of Avril's fans love this song lol, maybe I would like more if it was released as a single with a video ), Hello Kitty (very creative in my opinion and it supposed to go viral, but is not the type of song that I listen to).
Rock N Roll, YASNY and SOS I don't dislike but I don't love it either... Actually YASNY, SOS, BS and HH could easily be b-sides songs... i mean, is not the type of song that makes the final cut and goes to an album (i love HH tough, mostly because of the lyrics)
17 is definetely the song that I heard at most... I always have a good feeling when I hear it, the lyric is so nostalgic. Unfortunately the studio version is not good as the live one, and sadly we don't have any video of the live peformance of this song in a good quality... but still is one of my favorites songs by her. I'll never forget when she made an apparence on the Viper Room before the album released and it made me feel sooo excited for the whole era... I listened this live version like a hundred times in a row lol.
I also love Falling Fast (so soulful and I believe is the most personal song on the album), GYWYL (everytime I see that music video i got angry haha, such a waste) and Hush Hush (I mean, Avril always finishes an album in a good way and this definetely not an exeption)
8,0/10

single good song on that one imo). It's so weird, because I kinda hate her for putting out songs like Hello Kitty
and Rock n Roll (song itself not as bad, but in combination with the video an imposition), but I also think GMWYL is one of her finest songs. Actually I like all balads on that album and feel akwardly ashamed of the rest.
I can't really describe it but since TBDT her upbeat songs kinda have become
uncomprehensible to me. They are not fun to listen to, but give me an uneasy
shiver. I think it's a weird mix of trying to make radio-friendly music, pleasing
the management and lacking interest in that at the same time. Maybe also trying
to catch up with what kinda pop music is most wanted in each era, but it
doesn't fit her. Goodbye Lullaby was a great record, but also in that era 'What the Hell' fell completely out of the concept of the whole record in desperate need of having
at least one 'upbeat radio-friendly' song.

During that era, you harshly critiqued TBDT. However, I'm going to remind you that on Dedember 31, 2007 you said "I love 'Girlfriend'". However, you may have had too much to drink. Eleven years later, I remember how amusing you were that night. lol

I really really love this song, lyrics and music video so so much!!! We'll be running down the street, yelling "Kiss my ass!" I'm like yeah whatever, we're still living like that When the sun's going down, we'll be raising our cups Singing, here's to never growing up Oh whoa, oh whoa, here's to never growing up Oh whoa, oh whoa, here's to never growing up We live like rock stars, dance on every bar This is who we are, I don't think we'll ever change They say just grow up, but they don't know us We don't give a fuck, and we're never gonna change Say, won't you say forever stay If you stay forever hey We can stay forever young YAAAS!!! The Best Damn Anthem 4 Real !!! P. S. Age is only a number in your passport - just let it go and enjoy your unforgatteble moments in this incredible f*cking LIFE! Be yourself and stay forever young

Still waiting for the Bad Girl mv. This song had some much potential than RNR or LMG. Just a fan MV has more than 50 million views on YT, half than RNR. It has good numbers on streaming without being a single.
Bad Girl is the single her career needed to continue with her image of the bad girl not HK. The photoshots of the AL era fit perfectly with this song.
Do you think the MV will leak someday??

No I think it was a video made precisely for the tour only. They'll never release it IMO because it was specifically made for the tour, like the Bad Reputation montage.

This album was a failed attempt to recreate a TBDT type of work, what is really missing is the energy, the grit; she sounds so annoyed, so bored on the songs that you couldn't help to dislike them. Even the ballads: you can't feel anything, maybe only Give What You Like and Falling Fast, but Hush Hush, Let Me Go aren't emotional as Goodbye, Remember When. Having said that: the lyrical content is , well, cringeworthy: TBDT, at least, had original lyrics, this has clichè, immature and even no-sense lyrics.. Still don't get Here's o Never Growing Up, really the song to me tells about anything but the living the moment thing. It's so vulgar and i don't know how they could come up with such lame lyrics, like really?? Her twins Bitching Summer, Sippin On Sunshine are a little better, but stil... talking about the end of school when you finished almost 22 years ago is a little bit funny (in negative sense).
The thing that hurt Avril was her limited way of seeing the songs: upbeat? funny and non-personal lyrics; ballads? mature lyrics. I just hope that she changed her mind about this, but thank God that Head Above Water will not be like that and even if Dumb Blonde will be the most similiar song, we should take it as it is: a parody song like Blank Space of Taylor.

According to RIAA the allbum was certified GOLD in the U.S on March 26, 2018 for 500,000 UNITS.
I guess the album has sold around 2-3 millions WW or more (we also count streaming)

I love all of them. I think they're all good for what they are. I don't care what critics say. it's all subjective and I can love it if I want to.

I'll agree the era was a mess and the songs were all over the place but they're still good for what they are. And I loved the production. I still listen to the album often. There's lots of pop gems on it

Self titled is my least favorite album overall. I personally think it’s trash as a body of work. However, it gave us some of her best album tracks. Which is why I deleted most of it and pretend it’s an EP with these songs: GYWYL, Bad Girl, Falling Fast, Hello Heartache, Hush Hush.
Every opinion is valid. I don’t like the teen pop tracks, but maybe younger fans do, and that’s okay (la la la la la) it’s okay (la la la la) it’s okay.
I’ve even seen people say they like the Spongebob song. So there’s definitely room for everyone I guess.
