well, the unreleased instrumentals we got for GL were pure gold tbh. All 3 of them. I also wonder what happened to the b-side for WYWH i think it was. I don't remember the name, Happy(?) We've talked about this before in the random thread (I think, long time ago). There was NEVER a b-side for WYWH. It never existed. It was an error on their part. oh i think i remember now xD i'm getting old sorry. But i still feel bad for the instrumentals. She shoud definitely release them one day, a full album. like she doesn't even have to say they're scrapped songs, market them as new ones, only hardcore fans will know they're not new. but then we enter the discussion about who owns the songs now. pff i'm just gonna sit and patienlty wait another 5 years for AL7 🙃

The WYWH b-side was called Hello, except that the song apparently never actually existed anyway.
It would be difficult to release an album of unreleased songs unless they were songs recorded under her current label or she bought them back. The unreleased songs are the property of the label she records them under. Unless someone knows where to purchase them and leak them, like in the case of the Let Go b-sides leaking, that's the only way I see it happening. I'm still not sure how someone was able to buy the LG songs, maybe it was someone who knew a producer who worked on the songs or something. But since we haven't been able to get leaks for any of her other albums, that basically shows how difficult it is to even purchase them, let alone hope they just leak out of the blue.
Usually b-sides and rarities are reserved for posthumous releases to keep banking on the artist even after they've stopped making/can no longer make music. So yeah I don't see it happening until Avril is... you know...
Frankly I don't think the Candy instrumental is all that great. I can see why it was scrapped. It sounds like some sort of Disney Channel theme song. It sounded dated even in 2010. I do wish Gone had been released though, I don't know if that instrumental was real or not, but it sounded amazing!

Gone was my favorite indeed. Apparently it was co-written with Evan and it was his favorite from the album

Gone sounded like it could have been amazing. The instrumental was certainly top level.
I've seen acts do bside/rarities collections to release alongside greatest hits compilations. Oasis did it and No Doubt too, off the top of my head. Avril did say she would like to do a greatest hits just to collect everything together and probably as a sense of achievement for herself. It would be cool if she packaged it with a rarities collection. I'm sure she has some stuff she never formally recorded so it doesn't belong to the label if she records it now even if she wrote it a long time ago. She could probably buy some of them back too if the label has no need of them and doesn't think they'll be able to make money from them some other way.
I think the LG b-sides may have been up for sale to sell off to other artists to record?

Let's be honest, Avril isn't doing any of this. We'll be lucky to get AL7 in the next 2 years. Even the Christmas album she has wanted to do for years now has never been started. And she's got the time, like now, she could have her Xmas album out by this year. I'm sure the GP will like it, the cookbook will be harder to sell though.

They are pretty pointless today because of streaming.

^ agreed but maybe in Asia where there's still a culture of buying CDs she could. Or make it a limited thing just for hard core fans. Put it up for preorder then just make the amount that are preordered. I love how No Doubt put a little piece by each song in the booklet explaining background, what the song was about, how it was written etc. I'd like her to do that

Idk if even someone with more hits than her like Taylor hasn't put out a GH yet, I don't think Avril will. Even if Avril wants to, it's probably something the label decides. They probably wouldn't do it unless they knew they could make a decent profit on it. If they were to release one, they need to make special content that makes it worth purchasing, otherwise no one but her hardcore fans is really gonna buy it because even her new music doesn't sell that well these days, let alone songs from 20 years ago.
I love what Britney did with The Singles Collection where you could buy a special edition boxset that included physical CDs of every single along with their B-sides or remix, plus a DVD of all her music videos. Other artists like Kelly, Carrie, and Pink included a few new tracks. But knowing Avril, it would just be a collection of her singles with maybe a few B-sides that were already released like I Don't Give and IAGWIW.
I don't care if she never releases a GH honestly. It's not something I'm dying to have from her, unless they did something really special with it like physical CDs of the singles, new tracks, unreleased songs, etc. As far as what No Doubt did, I don't expect her to be that open about the writing process or what the songs are about. Sigh. It's sad how low our expectations are of her lol Maybe once she reaches her 20-year anniversary in music she will do something special. I hope! I hope for something better than just reposting all her old music videos.

I wish Avril would send the fans a little Instagram video or something, thanking them on her birthday. Just looking at the Italian fans throwing a birthday party for someone that isn't even there and they got a 4 word tweet. Seems like if you can post 10 Instagram stories about your birthday party you can post a quick one thanking the thousands of strangers wishing you a happy birthday, even though they will most likely never meet/know you. As a celebrity, social media should make it easier than ever to make your fans feel special/appreciated, as they both have "direct" access to each other now. Not sure if I'm alone in thinking this, that's why I've posted it in unpopular opinions.

I agree but she was also probably still celebrating yesterday. Maybe today she will say a little something. She probably got thousands of messages between also celebrating in real life with her real friends. Let her enjoy the day without having to worry about posting on social media. I’m sure most of us haven’t spent our birthdays on social media.
Edit: She acknowledged the video Bandaids made for her so that’s something!
