As Chad Kroeger has told us back in August 2018, after fighting against Lyme disease, Avril is FINALLY coming back!
The style of her new album “Head Above Water” is totally different from her previous music. This is very good! Famous oversea media praises her new music as her best masterpiece. I agree with them! “I almost accepted the fact that I was going to die”, Avril is sharing her raw emotion with us when she was at the very bottom of her life, we can feel it through her music. I’ve been listening to her new song again and again!
“InRock” is the first few media that got the chance to do an interview with Avril Lavigne! Whether Avril is 100% recovered from Lyme disease or not is the issue we most cared about. When we asked Avril about her recovery, she’s been quiet for a while, then answered: “Better”. When we are going to ask about the first single “Head Above Water”, whose theme is related to her experience of fighting against Lyme disease, she suddenly became angry and said: “hey, I really don’t want to talk about the disease, can we talk some topics about my new album?”. Actually, from the very beginning of the interview, Avril has been talking with me in a weak voice, I noticed that and felt a little bit nervous. However, the roar filled with power, I can feel she is coming back. Although she was mad at me but I wasn’t feeling bad. I think maybe she is not 100% recover yet. But if she can roar with that strong power, I can feel her comeback is not far away from us.
By the way, in the end of the interview, the topic that she talked with me happily is about Japan and her Japanese fans. “You know what, I’ve been thinking about this for a long time, if one day I could show the world my paintings, I’d love to do an art show in Japan.”, Avril told us with a big smile. Please do make it happen!

Thank you for posting, but do you know if it’s all that they have in the magazine or there’s a full interview that wasn’t translated yet?

I love that she wants to show her paintings! I’m so excited and curious about that!
Thanks for sharing. Hope we get a full interview with some details about the album...

There’s no interview because Avril refuses to talk about anything lol I find this highly puzzling, does she even understand what she's demanding of the journalists? Will she become angry again if someone mentions her the title of her album? She strongly implied before that she made the song (and the album) so that people affected by lyme or any other terrible disease will get inspiration and support from her music. Personally, even though I do not generally care much about artists outside their works themselves, have been moved by that 'crying' interview from a couple of years ago, because at the time I was still going through the post-scare mood at the time, and it felt a bit.. comforting that Avril had a similar experience, and hence, that being so shook up is normal. It's a bit dishonest to ill folk out there to practically announce yourself as a 'motivator', a 'beacon', then just forget all about it, and even turn hostile towards unsuspecting journos. Totally odd behaviour. But hey, maybe she's pregnant, its the hormones

Such a bad attitude. She’s not going to win any new fans this era that’s for sure. Very odd.

That was...I have no words. Like wtf is going on? Maybe tell your PR person to go over the questions that will be asked and tell the interviewer what's off limits.
I wonder if she did all these in a hotel room in one day.

But Avril, isn't a big part of the album about what you went through due to the disease? It looks like we're getting a GL 2.0 in terms of being a personal album, but Avril not really wanting to talk about what album (mainly) addresses. I thought she could've changed the way she handles things after so many years, but it doesn't seem the case. The album better be really good, because I'm not really digging what Avril has been offering us in terms of interviews and whatnot

What is the point of doing interviews if she doesn't want to talk about anything? We are less than a month away from the album, and we know nothing. In interviews she could talk about the musical influences of the new record, which song has more expectations etc... there is so much to say. About the illness it would be enough to set up a circumstantial answer, without going into details. She knows they'll always ask.

I wish someone would ask her more about the songs themselves, even the non-Lyme ones. Like I would really love to know more about IFILWTD since she wrote it herself as well as produced it. What is Bigger Wow about? Tell me more about Dumb Blonde, the message of being stereotyped. What are Goddess and Souvenir about?

I think her response is so weird... like you guys said, the album is inspired by her battle with Lyme and the interviewer asked a normal question, nothing rude, that was Avril. HAW (single) IS about that so what would she expect from an interview otherwise?? She even released it as a first single so people have questions about it... Really weird attitude

I've been wondering if it annoys her when all people want to ask her about is her Lyme. I know a lot of disabled/chronically ill people don't like it when that's all people see in them and when they get pitied about it all the time. On the other hand, she literally said the album is inspired by that and I bet her management wanted the promotion to be centered around it ('cause it's the most interesting, so to speak, topic that people might be curious about) and, presumably, she agreed to that. Maybe she's having second thoughts right now and is getting annoyed. Anyways, I don't think she was being too rude, it's just unfortunate that she'll definitely have to answer these kinds of questions a lot more, it's going to make me uncomfortable from now on, knowing she dislikes it.

I wonder if she's going through some less great days with her illness. She hasn't said she's 100% recovered and that she has good and bad days. So being a person who's not the most diplomatic or socially skilled, she lashes out when she's feeling worse and is asked about it. I think people want to focus too much on recovery and winning diseases when sometimes you never win, you just cope with it for the rest of your life and that's why you don't want it to define you and be the only topic of discussion.
That said, she needs to figure out a way to discuss her music without delving into her illness, since her music IS about her illness, at least HAW. Just practice before interviews, write down some general responses to questions like that.
She's always been vague about her new albums and hasn't really been able to articulate them apart from a few key themes she keeps repeating in all interviews. It's about emotion for her and she just isn't articulate about her process and music.
I'm used to it but I've been a fan since Skaterboi came out. If she wants to rebrand for a more adult audience, she should work on her interview skills.
