I also found this cool article:
"Lindsay Kirstiuk, you're becoming Avril Lavigne!"
Hearing those words was a surreal moment that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. It all started with a goofy audition tape.
The tape consisted of my two best friends, Carlo Atienza and Caroline Lumb and I, acting up in front of the video camera. I sang along to "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi" and worked my stuff in front of the camera. The real brains behind the production was Carlo who stayed up into the wee hours of the morning editing the video. The final product was great, so I sent it in.
After playing the waiting game for about a month I began to wind down from summer fun to start my senior year at Archbishop MacDonald High School in Edmonton. The first day of school arrived, and I dreaded the thought of going there every day for the next 10 months. There I was, sitting in my English class and suddenly TV cameras burst into the classroom and MTV Canada spoke those magic words. The fact that I had been chosen out of all the teenage girls in Canada was so unbelievable. For that the next three days I was treated like a star.
When I arrived in Hollywood, I didn't know what to expect. I have studied dance for almost all my life and I thought I would be used to being in the public eye. But I wasn't prepared for anything like this! I had never been so nervous in my life.
The first day of fame consisted of many surprises. Everything was a secret, so I wasn't allowed to know anything, or ask any questions for that matter. That day I met with Avril's producer, Graham Edwards, and he told me which video I was going to be remaking, and that video was "Complicated." I was so excited because that video and song were the ones that launched Avril to stardom.
Then I met with Heath, from the band Mind Driver, and he taught me the basics of playing a guitar, so I would look like a natural on camera. His encouraging words really helped me to feel more confident with a guitar in my hands considering I have never "played" a guitar in my life. After that, I was off to the salon to be transformed into Avril through hairstyle and makeup! MTV then had another surprise for me! They flew Carlo to Los Angeles. It was such a thrill to have him there to share the experience with me.
The next two days consisted of the actual video shoot. I was very excited, but also very nervous. It was weird having an entire film crew working so hard just for you. The director, Fernando, helped me gain self-confidence so I would let go of all doubt when shooting the video. And the extras that played my band were also very supportive. Before I knew it, I was rockin' out in front of the cameras and forgot about all those people watching me! I was having so much fun, then all of a sudden it was over!
It was sad to say goodbye to Hollywood, because I had made so many friends along the way in such a short period of time. I can't thank MTV Canada enough, as this has been the biggest and most exciting experience of my life!
MTV Canada exclusively premieres Becoming Avril Lavigne on November 24 at 7:30 pm ET (4:40 PT).
