10 songs. Every song be top notch.
Her last 3 albums have had filler. Cohesive, tell a story, experiment with new sounds.

Even though ten top notch songs sound amazing in theory, I'd prefer that Avril releases the usual 12-13 songs with the next album. Some of my favorite Avril songs (Who Knows, Freak Out, One of Those Girls, Sippin' on Sunshine, Bigger Wow, etc.) are ones that some may consider filler, while I similarly don't care for some songs that I know are big among fans (Falling Fast, Hush Hush). I think that more songs means more opportunity for people to find something they like, and the addition of more songs doesn't always have to mean a clear quality-loss.
Let Go, Under My Skin, and The Best Damn Thing are all really cohesive albums that are between 12 to 13 tracks. And from what I've seen, most fans also consider one of the three to be their favorite Avril album. I understand why Goodbye Lullaby wasn't cohesive (although without RCA pressuring, it would've been on par cohesion wise with the aforementioned three albums if Gone and Complete Me are anything to go by), but I can't speak to Avril Lavigne and Head Above Water. Regardless of what Avril chooses to do though, I'm looking forward to it!

Fair point, however you could also argue quality > quantity. I’d rather have less tracks if it means they’re all solid than have more songs but those extra songs are meh.

Agreed but it's hard to say without knowing what the extra few songs would be. If you have 10 excellent songs wouldn't you be left wanting more?

Which is why they usually just get relegated to bonus tracks. Though I guess that isn't really a thing anymore these days.

I am the kind that always prefers more especially since she takes so long to release music. I would prefer 13 tracks. Yet I wouldn't like it if she went beyond that, like those artists who have 16-18 tracks. Unless it's a double album (seriously missed opportunity for HAW) or there's a deluxe version but that's Rare now. Only Selena Gomez has released a deluxe version in 2020 and that was a few months after releasing her album Rare.
I think for Avril to have a cohesive quality album is if she finally figured out what her new sound will be. And I doubt that's country rock so I think we will again get a weirdly put album. And as long as the songs are good I probably won't care.

It's true that in these years Avril has tried different sounds, but at the end of the day, her genre will always be pop / rock. I don't know how to interpret this "country rock" thing, I doubt it will be a really country rock album even if I would love it!

I would really love for her to collaborate with Halsey. Their styles would fit together greatly and she would be backed by Halsey's "newer" fanbase as well.

- I think 12 tracks for an album is perfect. However I would also be fine with 10 tracks but not less. The less you have the less you can discover. Quality > Quantity is a good point tho. I‘d rather have less songs with higher quality than too many songs with less point. I think an album with more than 14 songs would be too much. There are a few artist who did that and I just get tired at one point. 12 seems to be perfect. At the same time I like it when an album has around 8 tracks and all of them are great. At the end you want more and are hyped for more. Anyways - Usually I do not care for the genre. If it sounds well it is going into my playlist lol. However even though Avril tried some genres with tracks like GYWYL, Bad Girl, HK or Crush she still has kind of the same sound in them. There is something about it that is screaming Avril. - I love Halsey’s songs. Even though I wasn’t the biggest fan of her last album she had a few good tracks in them. I really would enjoy a collaboration with her. I would also enjoy a collaboration with Billie Eilish or Niall Horan (more because I love his songs lol) and even with Lady Gaga.

I hope Avril takes a page from Taylor and drops a surprise album at some point lol Seriously though, Taylor basically wrote a new album in quarantine and decided to just release it, even though we are still technically in the Lover era and Lover is not even a year old yet. Ariana basically did the same thing when she released thank u, next like 6 months after sweetener came out.
Avril says she's been working on new music during quarantine and she's basically not scheduled to do anything until at least next year. I'm sure with her she maybe doesn't have the luxury of just dropping music out of nowhere without label approval, like the label probably has to listen to it and make changes as they see fit, whereas with Taylor they know it will sell no matter what so she probably has more luxury to do what she wants. But I still think Avril should just drop the music as soon as it's ready instead of waiting to officially close the HAW era or whatever. Ending HAW with WAW I think is a good way to close the era, especially since she can't go back on tour until next year anyway. And we've all noticed how the new tour dates have just been dubbed "Avril Lavigne on tour" instead of HAW Tour, so perhaps they are thinking about dropping new music before then. Fingers crossed!

People around Avril tend to not care about the marketing when it comes to promoting her tours but they seem to be too scared of poor album first week performance to release anything without an announcement. The old style kind of thing. But maybe one they she’s going to surprise us. She did quite well during the first weeks of social distancing She can. When she wants to. Speaking of Taylor, she’s basically releasing the music on her own now - to cut the long story of her deal with Republic short.

Taylor released a new album? lol didn‘t know. As for Avril.. I hope she releases at least a single Yeah she announced it the day of its release. I don't think Avril would ever drop an album with such little notice, no promo, no singles, but I hope that she will release the music she's been working on in quarantine instead of sitting on it until the right time. It may never be the "right" time with the way things are. Besides that, people are bored and having new music gives them something to focus on. She may get more attention if she drops something while everyone is still kind of at home. Taylor also managed to film the music video while having a small crew and taking all the proper social distancing protocols, another artist I follow did the same. So it is possible to still do music videos too. Some artists are doing "virtual tours" or one artist I follow did a livestream the day of her album release, she was on a stage with a full band (spaced apart) and she sang some songs from the album but the audio/visual quality was HD, like they had an HD camera streaming it and the audio quality was excellent. I hope that Avril will catch on to what other artists are doing and realize that artists are still recording albums, shooting videos, and doing live performances.

^ I don't think Avril is slow necessarily. Taylor started working on this album back in April. We know Avril has been working on music pretty much during all of quarantine as well, the question is whether or not she will get to release it anytime soon (aka this year). A lot of it is probably up to the label. I'm sure she has music ready to go and could drop an album tomorrow if she wanted to just like Taylor, but it probably has to get approved by the label.
