I'm hoping it will be like pop rock. The genre is kinda dead in mainstream music at the moment... Its all 80s disco style and it's starting to get a little old for my liking I hardly listen to any new music at all. I have always felt that probably cuz I'm not a teen anymore, I don't like trending English music..

I could see her maybe releasing at least a new single before the tour resumes though. After waiting so long for the tour, fans deserve to hear something new. She should take out Breakaway as it doesn’t really add anything and replace it with the new single IMO. What if.. what if she rerecords Breakaway? O.o I hope not though. ^^‘

For the seventh album, I think it'd be cool for Avril to do something along the lines of a more mature The Best Damn Thing. Obviously I don't want Avril to repeat herself, as what I mean by that is having something sonically similar in terms of the loud, fun guitars and upbeat mood. Head Above Water was a more laidback album, so seeing Avril let loose in a more mature, rockier way sounds pretty appealing to me.

I agree. After what she's personally been through and what the world is going through right now, I think we're all in need of some fun songs. I'm thinking songs along the lines of Runaway, ABO, Freak Out, Bigger Wow, like these anthems about living life to the fullest and making the most of things.

I had really hoped when she talked about TBDT being upbeat and fun before it came out that it would be the kind of music she did end up making but for the lyrics to be postitive and upbeat too but most of the album was meaningless boy-bashing songs. I still want a musically upbeat but also lyrically meaningful, positive album

I only hope that whatever these "country rock" songs are that she's doing are not bro-country like Florida Georgia Line, Sam Hunt type stuff. She mentioned she listens to Sam Hunt every day. My thoughts exactly Bo. I mean the chances of there being beer and party references in the songs are high but that's all I could take. I don't think country rock fits her and I'm sure she might be exaggerating with the rock part. If she does end up sounding country rock I at least hope she takes some cues from Miranda Lambert instead.Somethin' Bad or Locomotive for example. Or if she wants to sing about partying then Southbound by Carrie Underwood. My original vision for her was that she was going to do more songs like Souvenir, involving storytelling. A country version of Complicated/MHE or lyrical content like in My World. Now I don't know what to expect from her. OMG. I love you. I was thinking the exact thing!

“Lavigne reveals that she’d like to release some music in 2021 and that she’s started working on new material, which could be the basis of her next album” t.co/8v3ea4PhxIYes, I really hope this is true.. well, knowing how Avril is, we shouldn't get excited yet..

I only wish for the next album, regardless of the sound or music genre, to be more artistic and cohesive.
We've seen her try to do that with HAW and it wasn't bad but it wasn't quite good either. Haw was supposed to be angelic, mysterious with water themes and blue tones. we got a pretty boring music video instead, and with Melissa's cameo and oh well... TMIO it's a christmas breakup song (?) (for some reason) i didn't dislike the music video but it was also pretty simple so yeah. it almost didn't felt like a single. Then we have DB which is a 180º stylistic turn. GF themed. The concept and visuals were pretty cool but it had nothing to do with the album. Also, not having a music video it makes it feel even more out of place... Devil was like straight outta 2000's closet and I like it, the best music video this era. It also seemed a little bit "too much" i mean... it was like in your face, "see, he's the devil because he's dressed up like a vampire lol". I liked it but idk...
Overall, artistically speaking, it's even more of a mess than AL was...and that says a lot. every single is REALLY different from the other one, both sonically and artiscally. And it does no favor to the album, (where you kinda get the idea: there's 2 sides of the album, the dark one (without counting DB) and the bright one (no pun intented). and it's somehow cohesive at least at some extent), but the singles makes you (or the GP) feel like it's an all over the place album or era.
I wish, weherever she makes, to keep it more consistent. TBDT was pretty solid in that regard (and yes, even counting WYG). LG and UMS are the best examples of that as well.
I know maybe it's not as "important" for a lot of people BUT the way you present and product it's actually quite important. Having a consistent theme throuout the whole era, not only makes it look more solid, it's also more pleasing to see and experience.
I would also love her to push her creativity to the next level. She tried with Devil but as I said before, it seems too cheesy. She doesn't have to this alone, there are people that work for that so she should definitely have a creative person around her team or an artist.
Now for my personal taste, she should try something new. Do you guys see her dancing? lol. that would be interesting to see how it turns out lol. The thing is that the pop scene right now it's pretty strange. You won't be able to do "regular pop" and be succesfull unless you are taylor or lady gaga, and even them have incluences from other genres. Reputation and Lover were pretty kpop-ish to be honest (in the way that they mixed multiple music genres and also visually). And it's also a trend right now to go "kpop". The other trend i see going on is to go 70's and 80's pop. modernized obviously but there's a lot of that.
So if she was to make pop i'm afraid it would sound outdated. If she was to make pop-rock again i think it would work for her in terms of sound, but in terms of "image" idk... i'm afraid she would end up looking like a 40 y/o mom that never got over the emo phase...
So idk. the safest way for would probably be to go pop-rock-country as some of you mentioned or to go ballad-ly like, maybe indie, something pretty acoustic, folklore inspired but not as slow idk.
anyway, sorry for the long text xD to sum up: creative and cohesive. xD

^ I think DB fitted exactly when she's finally standing up for herself and is telling that toxic Devil man that she's no dumb blonde and can do things on her own again. (but that's my personal view). First half is what causing her to keep the focus to get her head above water and 2nd half is when her head is above water and she is happy.
But for AL7 I wanna see something new. No repeating. I like when artists renew themselves but you still hear the real artist. I do agree with the pop-rock-country (not that I'm a country fan but combined with pop-rock seems interesting). An album full of ballads isn't my thing either. I just hope she CAN write fun upbeat songs that are mature.. Bigger Wow is good example of a new upbeat song but an album full of Bigger Wows is also not that good I think.. I don't know it's difficult to speculate what she's gonna do next!!

As much as I tried to believe that... I'm afraid it was just us trying to justify DB in the album, but technically and objectevly speaking it doesn't fit anywhere in this era. It's the only boy-bashing song, it's the only "aggresive" song and the only one not related to personal growth (lyme) or love relationship.
We know it was the last song to be added to the album and it was only added so that she could have a potential hit, and that's why she had nicki on it later on.
It was in me was a better follow up to Devil or TMIO, and I know DB is propbably about Rotem as well as Devil is, but it just doesn't fit sonically or visually. I know it's nice to have a balanced album and having a bop like DB is nice but i'm also not gonna sit here and pretend that DB was "originally" meant to be on HAW 'cause it's just not true. It was a last minute attempt to have a hit on the album or maybe she was afraid the album was too boring i don't really know.
but i understand, i guess if we try hard, it does fit in the story (not for me) 'cause it's like putting a Big Bang theory scene in the middle of a WW2 movie (?) weird example but that's how it feels to be honest...
i like the song but HAW has fillers and we all know it. DB is not "the" filler for me, just the song that doesn't belong to the album. Maybe she should've kept the song for AL7 if the next album is really going to be more upbeat as she says, but that's just my opinion. ://

We do know DB is about a guy who told her she was a dumb blonde and she was like: Okay this is song concept. I think it's Rotem indeed. But she didn't had to make a lyric video for it. Saved it for the album was okay.
And everyone can have their opinions. To me DB is the best upbeat songs of her career. I'm over all TBDT songs, even the ballads since they're so high pitched with her voice. But indeed, a theme would do best. I really love when albums have themes!

I don't know why people complain about DB. You know she's always going to have one upbeat song on an album. SB and HW were sonically muchmore high energy than the albums they were on but people like them. She'll always have at least one for variety. DB is fine for me. Interesting lyrics rather than a really generic boybashing or party song like her usual upbeat stuff and better quality than anything upbeat post-TBDT

I like the Nicki version of DB, but I really enjoyed the physical album version too when I looked for it on YouTube.
Out of her rap collaborations, I prefer the Girlfriend remix.

Moving the conversation back to AL7.
I was thinking about the little we know of this album. She has 3 country rock songs. And apparently wanted to work with MGK, a rapper who is doing modern pop punk music. Plus Travis Clark who she wrote a Christian pop rock song and is best known for his pop punk band. And is in quarantine in her home studio with her bf who is an indie musician 🤔
Though, nothing is confirmed, not even the boyfriend, but those 3 country songs she classified as country rock.
