Kinda agree with you about Forgotten, mate. It has the same vibe and also minor key for sure.

Three weeks later. 💀 I must say, I do find her attitude hilarious in certain circumstances. I saw that she acknowledged the song before and started laughing.

I listened song few times more, and I must to say that I love instrumental and lyrcs. I am happy that Avril still love this kind of music.
When I listened first time song, first things that came to my mind was Nightwish with Tarja, and epic marching music.

Also late to the party. I listened to this weeks ago and not even once after that. I thought the vocals were excellent but nothing else about it was very interesting to me. I don't find it very "listenable" in the way I do have with Avril's own music. I guess I also associate Christmas music mostly with catchy things and not these epic productions? I tend to prefer things that don't feel overproduced so I find it difficult to get into this track. Can anybody who does like listening to music like this/this song regularly explain why they like it to me?

I personally enjoy Christmas music (though I'm not one of those people who starts listening to it before Halloween, I usually wait until after Thanksgiving at least). I think this is a good track for Avril and she sounds great on it, but yeah I haven't felt inclined to listen to it maybe more than a couple times. Maybe I'm just not in the mood for Christmas music yet, but I think it's also that this isn't ordinarily the type of Christmas music that I like. For example, I really love her version of Baby It's Cold Outside, I think her voice just sounds fantastic on it. I always also thought she could probably do a great rendition of Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree since it's more pop/rock like her own music.
I think people who like these types of songs would like it because of the dark sound and epic production. It kind of blends the sounds of UMS and HAW.

Well i personally hate traditional christmas music (except some of them). The first time i heard christmas music that was a little bit different was from a band called "for king and country". And it was kinda indie-rock or something like that.
This producer, Tommee Prfitt is the one that makes the music for NF (a rapper) and his music is pretty dark, cinematic and epic with pretty harsh and deep lyrics (Avril could learn some thing from him lol).
If you ask me why I like it...well i guess for the same reason we like the Avangers or Harry Potter, or Game of thrones (??) Idk. It's epic, it's exctinig, it's not music to "enjoy" or to "just listen to", It's music you have to be 100% commited to it when listening. It's probably just feeling the song, the notes, the melody and letting the song take you on a roller coaster i guess. It's really hard to explain lol xD
But that's why I like the song so much. If you really think about, Devil or Nobody's home, or Unwanted or losing grip kinda makes the same effect on someone. But less, obviously. Althought, NH and Devil kinda try to replicate this orchestral epic sound in a way. I really think Devil would sound amazing with Tommee's production.
I also like it because you can hear the instrumental being pretty elaborated, you can flavour every instrument and every note and harmony and the choir in the background. And then obviously, her voice and those high notes.
I would say it's a song you have to "experience". (well, these type of songs). It's reminiscent of the soundtracks of movies i mentioned earlier. They are made to boost the engagement to the story and basically play with your feelings and emotions. Music does affect you emotionally. Basic mainstream pop is made just to keep us "happy" where jazz or blues are more complicated music genres. This one idk if it's complicated lol, but it definitely has other purpose than just sing it on christmas day.
Tommee himself said it: giving christmas the epic treatment it deserves. And well, if we look at it as the born of Christ and all that funky stuff, i definitely imagine an epic soundtrack as the background to such a big event in history right? xD i guess, in a way, he made christmas more christmas than anyone lol xD

I don't go back to play it either. I'm not into typical Christmas music much less this song that sounds more like a Christian worship song. However, I do enjoy the cinematic and orchestral sound of the song. I think that music is very cool especially with my favorite singer. But the subject matter is not my thing.
Many fans enjoy it though because it hits that darker version of Avril. I do too just not on this song. It would be cool if Tommee did his own version of HAW and IFILWTD.

I've only listened to this new song once but I have a rule about not listening to christmas songs until December. Once November is over I'll put it on my Christmas playlist. it does make an interesting change

So Tommee it's going to premiere the music video for Oh Holy Night tomorrow.
Do you think it will be a music video for what child is this as well? She's a big name in the album after all, althought her song it's not the most listened on spotify. But it is the most viewed on youtube tho.

It's a possibility. On his Q&A he said there will be a few music videos for his album. I think he's noticed how dedicated Avril fans are by now so he may think about it. But I'm not getting my hopes up about anything regarding Avril anymore.

That's interesting, I find that the songs you mention have that effect on me much more than this Christmas song. Maybe because this one (to me at least) is so obviously going for the epic thing it lifts it over the top and becomes silly to me? I feel the others are much less obviously "big" though I see what you mean with them also going for something in this direction.
Thanks for the replies!
