Who are the "big four" of pop-punk? The Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax of the genre? I answer that question here, with a detailed look at pop-punk bands including Blink-182, Green Day, NOFX, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Avril Lavigne, The Offspring, New Found Glory, Bowling For Soup, MXPX, Weezer and more...

I watched this yesterday. They've had some good videos. The video he did about Hayley Williams also mentions Avril's influence. It bothers me how every time she's mentioned though that stupid conspiracy is brought up.

Can't believe people are still talking about that... it's lame and I'm (and a lot of others here) so done with it.

What is nice is the well deserved recognition and the considerable influence that Avril Lavigne has had on the pop-punk genre in this video.
Even though the they bring up that old dreaded conspiracy theory; I think for the most part it was bought up in a primarily joking way, at least that is my take on it. I really don't think most people really buy this old conspiracy theory, but it is just too irresistible for some people in non-mainstream media to not use it in attempt or gain interest or a cheap headline.

I would definitely consider myself someone who’s into conspiracy theories, I think they can be entertaining to dive into for a bit or talk about with others, so as someone who can talk from that point of view, the Avril theory has never made much sense to me either. I think sometimes people get caught up in finding ‘evidence’ that a theory is true and forget to think about reasoning and motivations why something would be done in the first place.
Its pretty proven that artists can be plenty profitable even after their gone. I don’t think there’s really any way to justify trying to pull off such a complicated scheme that could get exposed at any time to.....carry on Avril’s career. She was a young artist that just broke out in the mainstream, not even an irreplaceable legendary artist. The ‘why’ just doesn’t make much sense and that shuts that theory down right there in my opinion.
So yeah, that one really isn’t that good. Shame it spread so much that it just won’t seem to go away.

I agree that she is not exactly pop-punk. She only has a few songs like that, she is mainly pop with rock influences. We can call it pop-rock i guess. She wasn't very consistent with her sound either to be called pop-punk. Like, LG had some pop-punk, but UMS seemed more emo-pop-rock or something like that. Then TBDT was indeed more pop-punk but the image didn't work for her in the pop-punk comunity i guess xD
It's nice that they mentioned her. I do think she's definitely the most influencial female singer in the pop-rock world. She is THE pop-rock queen. I kinda like that she's so hard categorize. People usually says "wow it sounds like Avril lavigne" they don't say "wow, it sounds like pop.-rock" xD i mean they do...but she comes first to mind whenever it's a female so i guess that's good.
