Lol, this hardly sounds like what I'd imagined at all! I'd expected a rather fast, in-your-face, aggressive sort of song. This sounds very much like a ballad. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not what I'd expected. But who knows... maybe the song will change at some point and become a lot more aggressive?
Either way, so far so good. The drums sounds really great. Can't really say much more than that from this 5 second snippet.

It's definitely not what I imagined given what has been said about it so far but as people are saying it's too early to tell what the whole track is like. It sounds like it goes more energetic towards the end of the teaser with the guitar and drums. I'm hoping this is just a little Avril ballad we get as an intro and that there's more energy in the rest of the song (and that she returns for the chorus and bridge).
Edit: My post from earlier saying it's strange they're being silent aged poorly lol.

Maybe this Mod Sun guy is quite cool. He's growing on me already. I guess getting a shit load of tattoos and dying your hair green is supposed to be fun. Maybe he's just a really fun guy. Yes I also take back what I said, because of the snippet but also because of the song "bones" ! What a voice! I really can't wait now, and I totally agree with what Jinkxx says! |

Not surprised that the snippet doesn't sound as we were expecting and I'm truly glad about it.
Very brief, but the piano, softer part leading to a stronger part feels more interesting than a 00's punk pop sound like "Karma".
Soon to judge, but I am actually getting excited! I hope the song is complex enough to stand out.

If Modsun said in an interview he was going to bring the energy back up with the new single I don't think we should "worry" about it being slow-paced, let alone a ballad. Not that I wouldn't appreciate an epic rock ballad from the two of them, but I feel like the start of this year in particular is kinda begging for something a little more energetic -- which is exactly how Modsun described the song just a few weeks ago. Plus, I feel like it wouldn't make a lot of sense for him to release "Bones" and then a song stylistically similar to "Bones" right after, right?
So with that in mind, my best guess right now is that this preview is either the intro or the bridge of the song. Slowing down specific sections of rock songs is definitely not unheard of and is usually quite an effective way to add dimension and power to a song.
I can picture this preview being the intro and the tempo abruptly changing into something a little faster and more aggressive before the first verse kicks in. Maybe something similar to this intro on MGK's "Title Track"? I guess we won't have to wait long to find out!

And he especifically said it was very different from bones and more in the realm of karma. So maybe you're right and there is a plot twist coming our way. I'm reaaaaaally looking forward to hear avril with loud drums and guitars around her voice again. If is not with Flames...well...the album will do it for sure |
