GL TBDT LG UMS HAW AL
Any of her first 4 album covers are good, HAW is ok but not great, and AL will just forever be the absolute worst lol Here's to hoping the cover for AL7 will be one of her best yet!

1) Let Go 2) The Best Damn Thing 3) Goodbye Lullaby 4) Under My Skin 5) Avril Lavigne 6) Head Above Water
3 and 4 alternate for me, but Let Go has always remained my favorite Avril album cover. I love the background effect on the cover, as to me it represents that life is fast-paced and always changing around you. This theme is one that is reflected on the album in songs such as "Mobile": "everything's changing when I turn around, all out of my control, I'm a mobile".

I always interpreted the LG cover to be like Avril is supposed to be standing out from the crowd, because she was always different from other artists, and also because she had this desire to break out of her small town.

1) The Best Damn Thing (I like the colors, the pose, I love it was shot by Deryck and not from a professional)
2) Under My Skin (I love the black and white but with the Red Cross)
3) Goodbye Lullaby (it's professional and amazing)
4) Let Go
5) Head Above Water (non-sense, too dark)
6) Avril Lavigne (her worst, too dark, I don't like it)

1) Under My Skin - it has a really gorgeous yet simple and pleasantly contrasting disposition
2) Goodbye Lullaby - it is kitschy but it also has kind of a pleasant 'naturecore' style that almost reminds me of what Taylor Swift attempted with her Cardigan music video.
3) TBDT - It's not impressive, but it's functional - pink, punk, blonde and pissed-off Avril!
4) Let Go - I kind of get what they tried to portray with Avril somberly being set apart from the crowd, but it just looks.. very dated.
5) Avril Lavigne - I really have no idea what they actually meant with the imagery, but it has a nice contrast and a good overall composition.
6) Head Above Water - The more I look at it the more strange and off it seems. The guitar seems as if it's two-dimensional, Avril's proportions seem slightly strange, and it seems like a pose where Avril's neck hurt like hell after a while. The water also almost seems like it's tilted compared to how she's positioned, and acoustic guitar seems the strangest choice for an album that's not really about any acoustic guitars or stripped down sounds.

Goodbye lullaby The beat damn thing Under my skin Let Go Avril Lavigne Head Above water
I like all her covers except for AL and HAW. To be honest, I don’t like the nudity in HAW and the background etc, seems too plain for me.
AL cover seems week conceptually, I remember at the time someone commenting on bandaids that it’s similar to Lady Gaga’s album cover.

1. GL 2. TBDT 3. LG 4. UMS 5. AL 6. HAW
The cover for HAW seems so dark.. it should've been more blue with the Head Above Water. All this black doesn't make sense and her foot is weird lol. Self titled was weird too, too light and her hair up wich she never really had before so it's not a good photo for a self titled album wich should've represent her as a person. I love her black eye shadow and eyeliner and such but on this cover it's smeared all under her eyes wich is not nice. So by far are HAW and AL the worst. Maybe they even share last spot cause they're both kinda ugly.

1. GL 2. TBDT 3. UMS 4. LG 5. HAW 6. AL In case anyone wants to read a bit of an essay... The first four album covers are really all on the same level for me. All of them are great and represent the respective album perfectly. They may not be without their flaws, but I don't care. LG looks a bit weirdly edited, but I feel like it's such an iconic 2000s edit, and I love the handwriting. UMS also feels really early/mid-2000s to me, but again, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I also love the black-white-red colour scheme, the font, and the burnt-pages edit. TBDT has probably my favourite pose of Avril's on an album cover. The way she's got that strand of hair wrapped around her finger, and the way she's pulling at it - I've always loved it for some reason. I also enjoy the heavy amount of jewelry. The logo is a bit over the top, though. And GL has amazing fonts and colours, great editing on the edges, and I love the piano and leaves on it, but I've always disliked Avril's pose, it looks really uncomfortable. I also have this thing with naked feet, I just don't like them at all, lol. Yet I'd say this is my favourite album cover because the positives just outweight the negatives for me. And because it's the first album by Avril I bought as a fan. I still remember receiving the CD and just staring at the cover like "Wow, I can finally hold it in my own hands!" haha. HAW and AL are both just messy. AL's negatives (the lighting, the close-up shot, the makeup, the hair, the almost illegible font) just bother me more than HAW's mistakes. I think it's kinda crazy how we went from four superb, 10/10 (or close) album covers to something that's like a 2/10 at best.

Might be interesting to also analyze who photographed each cover:
LG - according to the booklet, it was a bunch of people who did the photography for LG, people that I don't think she ever worked with again
UMS - according to the booklet, some guy named James Minchin III, she never worked with him again that I recall
TBDT - we know the cover was shot by Deryck, while the rest of the photos were done by Mark Liddell
GL - Mark Liddell
AL - Mark Liddell
HAW - David Needleman
AL7 - will likely be that Nathan James guy
So the photographer she has worked with the most is Mark Liddell, who usually does pretty good work. It's odd that the cover for AL ended up being one of his worst. All the other photos from the same shoot looked just as suitable, they just happened to choose the worst possible photo for the cover.
