If the question is the best song among the tracks that happen to be the first tracks for each album, is one thing, if the question is the best song that's been chosen to open an album, it's another thing.
For the first interpretation I have to say HAW. One of her best songs.
For the second intepretation I have to say Cannonball. It pumps the listener up and is really a welcoming track with its epic "are you ready let's goooo". Yes, definitely the best, it looks like it's been written on purpose so it's perfect as an opener.

I think Take Me Away is one of her best songs same as HAW. But Cannonball is the best opener (and also an incredible good song), it sets the tone for the record and has the most 'opener-feeling' with her screaming 'I'm about to eexxxxpplooooode!'

☆Black Star is one of her worst songs of all time. I don’t know what she was thinking when making this song, I don’t like to call myself a Black Star because of this song, it has nothing to do with the album, it should have been a B-Side of Smile/WTH or a bonus track for the deluxe |

Black Star is not a great song but it's not like it's meant to be. It's just an intro song and I think keeping that in mind, it's not that bad. It serves its purpose. I do think it does a good job setting up the tone for what GL was supposed to sound like, and it would have worked if not for WTH coming immediately after. It was also originally just a jingle for the perfume commercial.

Not to go completely off topic but..yeah, I wish we got the GL that was Avril's full vision rather than WTH and Smile shoved in there, even if they were decent songs.-

In what order would you rate them? Is there already another thread like this? 😂😬 Best album opener ? Cannonball. You can't top this. You really can't. It's like it gets you instantly in Avril's universe, like you're being carried away in Avril's world. I remember at my very first listen, when the record came out. It just went off! I was like, "ok. Gotta catch my breath and press pause before listening to the rest of this album, it's WAY TOO POWERFUL and got me "WOW!" Instantly. (Same goes for this tour's opening btw! - perfect choice!) Which one is my favorite ? I'd say Cannonball because of what i just explained, or Girlfriend, because it's just such a fun lighthearted song that gets you jumping and laughing around - as intended, well done Av! Would you have picked another one ? No, not really.. i mean, i have my faves, but i suppose they were listed this way for a reason! Which is the worst ? Rock N Roll i think. Don't get me wrong, but this one always was a little meaningless to me.. it looks like a HTNGU 2.0, and in my opinion, "Here's to.." did way better. And i'm gonna stop it there 😂 It's late! Lmao |

Not to go completely off topic but..yeah, I wish we got the GL that was Avril's full vision rather than WTH and Smile shoved in there, even if they were decent songs.- If I ever get famous one day and meet Avril, I will ask for the original tracklist and tracks of Goodbye Lullaby (Original Version) that was supposed to be released in November 2009, and ask for a listen and if there ok ask her to leak them, and if they are amazing tell her to re-released Goodbye Lullaby with the pop tracks as bonus tracks/deluxe tracks. |
