Hi ArnavKiKhushi, I don't know about this particular pool, but a sample of 1600 persons it's ok for the US population. The key is to choose these person properly to make them representative of the total amount of the population (random and diverse kind of persons). If someone pick the 1600 with all american members of Avril Bandaids the pool was very bad, 100% have heard about Avril Lavigne and probably 90% or more of them have a good opinion of Avril (or the opposite if the pollster choose them selecting persons in the AL7 thread ). Same problem with the student of your class if someone use it to made conclusion about the opinion of the people of your city. But 1600 if were choose properly give the pollster information of 330 million persons population with less than 3% error margin. I know, the sampling is too vague itself, but how would they define diverse here (age group is the only one that makes sense to me).. demographics? Anyways I had assumed that everyone in US & Canada would have known her name atleast.

I didn't even know what an "album" was until I was like 20-21. Some people just want to live their lives and it doesn't involve learning about music or celebrities. You forget that there would have been quite a few "older" people when she was big, and we know that most older people just don't care about the newer celebrities.

Not about foreign celebs but Indian ones, in India.. everyone just knows, so this is a bit surprisingeven my grandmother who is 85..Here people have shrines/ temples built in the name of celebrities 🤣 (I was under the impression everyone would have heard the name at least in countries like US & Canada).

Wow. Gen Z doesn't know Avril at all? I do! I'm in the far upper range of Zoomers(23). For the most part, people around my age don't know about her. The millennials that are just a smudge older than me know about her. Pick a random American younger than me? Well...it's very unlikely that they've heard of her. I think Presto569(user here) is younger than me. Avril was big but not that big. She also dropped off hard after The Best Damn Thing, so her name isn't extremely well known.

She was everywhere in 2011. In magazines, interviews, performances, tours. If someone only knows music from 2013 onwards I could understand that.

Are you sure not many teens and tweens of today are familiar with Avril? She performed on the Disney awards a couple of years ago.

I’d say if anything a lot of teens/tweens may know of her because of Billie - if they are fans of her and she’s talked so many times about Avril being a big influence on her.
Theoretically a 14 year old would have been born when Girlfriend came out. They likely would only know her music in retrospect, not in real time. To a lot of them, their childhood memories include dancing to WTH because they were probably somewhere around 5-10. Whereas to a lot of us older fans we were more like high school to early adult age at that time, most of us don’t consider WTH a classic or fondly remembered hit but they do because it’s in their realm of when they were growing up.
