For those not from the US/unfamiliar, Lauren Boebert is a congressman from the state of Colorado. Someone retweeted her tweet onto my timeline and it's the most bizarre thing to see someone try to use Avril and "Sk8er Boi" as a political talking point. Side note: I know the tweet author/tweet involves politics and my intention isn't to start to some heated political debate here. Just wanted to share as I found a government official using Avril as a talking point to be so bizarre! Just be civil with any discussion please.

"He was a boy. She was a girl. can I make it anymore obvious?"
Yes, in fact I have seen comments about that line being problematic too. The most popular line they pick on though is the girl with the baby watching at home. It's all so silly. Including this politician's tweet. Girl you got better things to do that join this mess smh. Why can't people just let this song be just that a song 😂

What is she trying to express by straightly using the line and video all together? I can't relate anything polictic

How many times does Avril say 'da' in 'Things I'll Never Say?'

Ugh ridiculous, when can we stop using non-political songs to make a point? Like, I understand songs being used when they're already political, that's the whole point, but (please correct me if I'm wrong) since Avril isn't really vocal about her political views, this might give Avril some unwanted publicity (though I'm not sure, I'm not from the US so I don't know how relevant/big/popular this politician is).

I really don’t think so. Anyone that knows what’s up with memes and all internet stuff would be smart enough not to associate Avril with the tweet.

It's hilarious that this basic first line just sticks around for 20 years and became such a meme in the past years
