Yeah we were quite shocked but since she has done a few different albums in her career I think people wouldn't be that shocked anymore. It's not she made the same kind of albums througout her career so people are a bit more used to a sort of change. I think people are more shocked when a young artsist 'suddenly' makes a change. Look at Britney (I'm a Slave 4 You) and Christina (Dirrty). Avril made a few changes already so it's not that big of a deal.

I think I'm not going to vote because I can't decide which option to choose lol. But I have been listening to GYWYL a lot lately, and I would LOVE a folk album from her. GYWYL is an amazing song & I wish Avril had more songs like that.
On another note, I'm not really into country music haha. Lana Del Rey (another one of my most favourite artists) has quite a bit of country-sounding stuff on her Chemtrails album, and I don't listen to that album at all (or very rarely) so there's that. Idk about classic rock, I can't really imagine what that would sound like from her, maybe it would be interesting though (and a new direction for sure).
About the "she's almost forty" thing, I don't think age has a lot to do with music genres. After all, 40 isn't even old lol (and this is coming from a 16-year-old hahah). So I think she can do whatever the hell she wants no matter how old she is. I adore Love Sux and I would totally rock out to another pop-punk album if she does one.

I’m not sure she will for her next album. Pop punk is still very much in trend and this has been her most successful album in years. Also considering the people she has around her and that she she seems so comfortable and happy I see her continuing in that direction for now. I do think we will make an album with a country vibe in the future though. I look forward to hearing it because when she sang those country songs in her teens her voice really suited them imo.

I'm not knowledgeable enough on the genre stuff because I believe consuming music probably dominates big part of U.S. culture while here is not as hit. Therefore, it's difficult for me to discuss on this topic starting off from music genre with the variety and diversity I regularly listen to that are not as collective as most of the fans here. Instead, I can go from something else. "Candid", "Aggressive" and "Pretty" has always been being my impression from her. She doesn't live up to the main stream and launched the market of pop punk or similar sound, which has become her intrinsic value as an artist. Those elements can be found, for example, long line, impulsive amount of words, repetitive melody and words, sweet voice with guitar, belting with sweet voice and etc. Therefore, I would be glad if she partly switching to other genres. Country and folk are good. Classic rock would fail because it has always been a masculine thing from history.

From those options, I selected these because they are the closest to what my opinion is: Yes, but a classic rock would be better than country music No, I want pop-punk Avril, why should she change genre just because she's turning 40? In principle, I don't mind Avril making pop-punk music for future albums because I really liked LS, but as long she doesn't go away too much from pop-rock it'll be fine by me. Any rock stuff (UMS-ish, for instance) would definitely be my cup of tea, but I wouldn't be against something country-ish. But first and foremost, I don't want her to "reinvent and evolve to stay relevant". One of the things that bothered me a bit about LS is how "convenient" it was that she released a pop-punk album right when that genre has been mainstream in the last few years thanks to people like Willow and, especially, MGK; and she collaborated with both of them. It's going to be really interesting to see what path she wants to take for the next album cycle...

It's been my dream for many many years that Avril would one day return to her rock roots, and she finally just did. It honestly feels like she just came back home. Rock Avril Rulezz!!! But now you want her to switch to country? I scream sacrilege!!! Kidding, well kinda... Sorry to rain on your dream, but Avril can do what ever she wants and still probably support her, but please not country !!!

I love when people refer to rock as her “roots,” when country IS actually her roots lol
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but for a long time I’ve felt country and jazz suit her way better than rock. Her voice doesn’t pull off rock music IMO. Miley Cyrus, for example, KILLS at rock music. Avril’s voice is too soft and clear, there is no roughness or edginess to her voice and IMO she just can’t pull off rock music convincingly. But country and jazz fit her voice like a glove.

I'm sorry that some people don't agree with my point of going back to her roots, but Avril has stated over, and over, and over again, that she had to fight for her music to be rock driven. I know this because of all the many different articles I read and posted on her fight to make rock driven music. - Avril Lavigne: "I was just a little fighter and I had to fight to be a writer, and then production-wise, for the songs to rock a little harder and be more pop-rock-driven and guitar-driven and even how they were stylized." Avril is perfectly suited in every way, including vocally to keep making great rock music as long as she wants to, and to say otherwise is ridiculous!

Rock may be her roots if we are talking her professional career, but she started out by singing country and gospel music before she got a record deal. Country is more her real roots than rock, if we are talking about what music she actually grew up singing. Just because you’re not a fan of country music doesn’t change the fact that’s what her real roots are. And I still disagree her voice fits rock music, hence why I said it is an UNPOPULAR opinion.

For the record I like country music and have absolutely zero issues with it, and/or the genre in anyway whatsoever. But because I fell in love with Avril Lavigne making rock music in her professional career, and I that she excelled at it, and had an obviously huge impact on a generation and influenced another generation with her rock music. I simply hope that she plays to her greatest strengths, and she just keep doing what made her become so beloved around the world. But if she chooses to do otherwise, you know what, I'll still support her doing whatever she wants to do even if it's country and/or any other genre. I've just grown quite accustomed to rock Avril, and simply yearn for more...

I’m more curious to see what Avril’s idea of “classic rock” is.

I wish Avril had more songs like "Tell Me It's Over." That is one of my favorite songs from Head Above Water. Her voice sounds great, the music is energetic but not too "out there."
When it comes to music in general, I honestly do not have expectations about how an album would sound. Oftentimes, the label gets involved in the artist's vision (i.e., TBDT, GL, AL, and Prism by Katy Perry). Or the general audience is not interested in the original sound, so the artists go back to the studio and record new songs. I would rather let the artist do what they want, and then decide if I like their new album or not.
Avril doing a country album would be amazing but I see it more country-pop. As others have stated, Avril would need to be open to collaboration because I do not think her writing style fits country sounds. I cannot see Avril doing classic rock... I too wonder what she thinks classic rock is. However, to give Avril some credit, our perceptions of genres can be affected by what the radio or community thinks it is. For example, I admit that I was the individual who submitted that genre confession. Growing up, what I thought was pop was actually rock because that's what was popular in my hometown. What I thought was rock when it was pop was because it was played on the "rock" station.

I'm a little scared to be completely honest. I've never been into country music, however i do love acoustic music a lot, folk too i believe. I do enjoy a few country songs here and there and some artists, like Shania Twain, for example.
But since it's Avril.. who knows! I'm scared but i also kind of totally "trust" her when it comes to music, like, for me she's literally a legend and has a lot of experience in the music area.. so i mean, i'd be curious to see what she can come up with. I have a lot of admiration & respect for everything she has accomplished so far, so i'd definitely give it a curious listen..
Now, would this be my favorite record of hers? Probably not, lol! Avril really masters the "rock" era & music thing, and who knows about country..
If this sounds anything like Everybody Hurts though, i'm all for it. GL wasn't my favorite record she has done, since, like i said above, i like rock Av, but i kinda also really like what she came up with, it was like a breath of fresh air..
We'll see..

I think in this streaming/singles oriented music environment, artists can honestly create and put out whatever they want and not feel tied to any specific genre. (Eg. Doja Cat with anything, Lil Nas X with Old Town Road or Beyoncé with “Daddy Lessons.” I know Avril’s heart is in pop punk, but her music has always incorporated country melodies because that’s what she grew up with as a child. It suits her voice and has always added a charm to her songs particularly on Let Go, Goodbye Lullaby, Avril Lavigne and HAW (album). It’s been present on TBDT (particularly ballads) and UMS in subtle ways too. Her style is very much her own and it’s awesome. Do I think it’d be cool if she had a few songs on an album that went full country? (Maybe one with Shania for that full circle moment?)Hell yes, I think *anything* done well with her heart in it will by default be excellent. Her voice is super underrated. Also, to touch on Classic/Dad Rock I’d love to hear her on a Fleetwood Mac “Go Your Own Way” esque song and think she has the edge and gentleness to effortlessly pull that off or a song like “Yesterday” by the Beatles or a song like “Your Song” by Elton.
If Avril does country I see he excelling in creating good music in whichever form of country she chooses (Chill Kacy Musgraves/Shania stuff or anthemic bro country like Florida Georgia Line) because I honestly feel like she’s done it before but not had a fiddle in it or explicitly called it country. But if she does classic rock I see her making great music by leaning on the emotion triggering really, grounded, simple stuff.(and yes happy and in love are emotions I’m counting)
I’ll end off by saying she can put out singles in every genre under the sun and come back to pop punk and be welcomed with open arms. She could make pop punk for the rest of her life and it’d be good songs, BANGERS even. But yeah to answer the original question more succinctly, I’d listen to a country/classic rock album with one or two slightly pop rock leaning “Avril songs” slipped in and be satisfied knowing I can add those to my pop rock playlist 😂
