Surprised there has not been any new leaks for a while especially with the new album still quite far off and those snippets which never leaked in full.

Wasn’t Lights Out revealed to be written a couple years prior by another singer? And maybe that’s why Avril didn’t want it because she didn’t write it.

My thing with dropping songs like Lights out or Break It So Good is that she rather chose the pop songs that were even more basic.

It doesn’t really sound like an Avril song tbh The performance is from 2016 and she used to front a band. At the start of the song she says it’s the first one she wrote when she decided to go solo

That looks like she choosed storyline in 12 songs track list rather that quality (better) songs

My thing with dropping songs like Lights out or Break It So Good is that she rather chose the pop songs that were even more basic. But that she was active in writing/ creating. She was likely just singing some other songs to see how she would sound in other styles - without having a personal attachment to the song clouding her judgement…

I feel like her inspiration for Head Above Water was compromised, which is why there are so many leaks of songs from different sources and with different co-writers. Some songs were even supposedly "bought" from other people, like Lights Out. And also there are at least three versions of this song by Avril: one produced by Rotem, one produced by Steve Aoki, and one with more prominent acoustic guitar strings.
Apart from that, what makes me proud about Avril is that even during this time - probably during the most uninspired moment of her career - and even while using some demos from other artists, she changed a few things in each song. This proves that even when someone else comes up with an idea or a demo first, she also tries to provide her own input into the songs. She wrote a whole bridge for her version of Lights Out. The same goes for Lucky Ones; her version has some differences from Lauren Christy version as well.
Even so, these versions were not even released. I believe her when she says she wants to feel connected with her songs.

She was likely just singing some other songs to see how she would sound in other styles - without having a personal attachment to the song clouding her judgement… This was such a strong theory at the time. Some people believed that during Head Above Water sessions, Avril was uninspired and insecure, leading her to experiment with different songs to test her "new voice", under different genres and producers. We will never know the truth. But it's not far-fetched, considering that for the album, she ventured into various genres, from gospel to jazz, to R&B-ish songs, to her pop rock and "pure" pop roots. The strongest aspect of this album is that it best showcases her vocal abilities. HAW is my least favorite album, but it's the one that best proves how great of a vocalist she can be. Its vocal production is years ahead of Love Sux, imho, even though I enjoy LS in general much more cause of other aspects.

Just a reminder of how Move Your Little Self On is so good After Breakaway and Why were released, this is my #2 unreleased song, just behind Daydream.

I believe her when she says she wants to feel connected with her songs. Yes but she didnt make any effort to perform the half of the album during the era. The same happened with Love Sux. That's why things dont make sense about her comments on her latest releases. I mean, she tried to cut Warrior and TMIO whenever it was possible during the tour. The shows were already short and Breakaway and KHO had 1 minute long performances during the tour.
