Avril didn't really technically write Breakaway though. The writers might have been inspired to give it that country feel since she came to Arista as a country singer and auditioned for them with country songs. Wait if she didnt wirte it technically then why does everyone say its her song

I remembered that Peter Zizzo also said that he wrote Falling Into History for that Avril audition and remade her original version of Why

Interesting I've read that this is a common practice in the music business.

It is Kelly's song in the sense her record label bought it so they own the rights. Kelly is the artist attributed to it since her recording is the one that was first released. Before Kelly, it was passed on to a singer named Samantha Moore but for whatever reason they didn't proceed with it and that's when it made its way to Kelly.
If Avril's first manager is to be believed, according to him, he negotiated for Avril to get a 15% writing credit simply for agreeing to record the song, regardless of whether it made the cut of the album. She served as the inspiration since it's clearly about leaving a small town to follow your dreams, etc. So in that sense she could get writing credit even if she didn't actually write anything. But it makes sense why she said she didn't connect with it, found it too pop, etc. and left it off the album.

She was also very young and from a small town, worked with The Matrix. It seems that he wanted to make another star because he was angry with Avril, but it didn't work out.

Isnt Cliff the one who is weirdly obsessed with her and just trashes her all the time on instagram?

Yeah it is common practice to put your name down to songs that you didn't write. Likewise, there are songs that famous singers don't put their name down. I just found out that Britney writes songs and that she's a ghostwriter. I wonder if Avril has been a ghostwriter too since she's always in the studio.

Cliff Magness was a Co-writer she worked with on LG (5 songs including Losing Grip) and UMS (IAGWIW and Take It, I'm pretty sure). She always spoke well of him and said he gave her a lot of freedom to write the lyrics herself while he wrote the music. Considering he was the only writer she used from LG to UMS era they must have gotten on well enough

Avril is definitely the type to put her name in the credits regardless of how much she contributes because she likes to say she writes every song she puts out. Plus she gets more royalties.

You still get royalties if you ghost write something, you just use a pseudonym or have your name registered for the song but not made public. Pretty sure it can cause all sorts of future problems for labels if someone doesn't get paid then later claims they wrote it so you would need them to sign away their interest in royalties
